| 1 | യോശുവയുടെ മരണശേഷം യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ: ഞങ്ങളിൽ ആരാകുന്നു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്‌വാൻ ആദ്യം പുറപ്പെടേണ്ടതു എന്നു യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു. | Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them? |
| 2 | യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെടട്ടെ; ഞാൻ ദേശം അവന്റെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചു. | And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand. |
| 3 | യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോനോടു: എന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്‌വാൻ നീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണം; നിന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തു നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഞാനും വരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ശിമെയോൻ അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി. | And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him. |
| 4 | അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; യഹോവ കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും അവരുടെ കയ്യിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവർ ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ചു അവരിൽ പതിനായിരംപേരെ സംഹരിച്ചു. | And Judah went up; and the Lord delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men. |
| 5 | ബേസെക്കിൽവെച്ചു അവർ അദോനി-ബേസെക്കിനെ കണ്ടു, അവനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും സംഹരിച്ചു. | And they found Adoni–bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites. |
| 6 | എന്നാൽ അദോനീബേസെക്ക് ഓടിപ്പോയി; അവർ അവനെ പിന്തുടൎന്നു പിടിച്ചു അവന്റെ കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു. | But Adoni–bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes. |
| 7 | കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരൽ മുറിച്ച എഴുപതു രാജാക്കന്മാർ എന്റെ മേശയിൻകീഴിൽനിന്നു പെറുക്കിത്തിന്നിരുന്നു; ഞാൻ ചെയ്തതുപോലെ തന്നേ ദൈവം എനിക്കു പകരം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അദോനീ--ബേസെക്ക് പറഞ്ഞു. അവർ അവനെ യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി അവിടെവെച്ചു അവൻ മരിച്ചു. | And Adoni–bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died. |
| 8 | യെഹൂദാമക്കൾ യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നേരെ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു അതിനെ പിടിച്ചു വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ വെട്ടി നഗരം തീയിട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു. | Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire. |
| 9 | അതിന്റെ ശേഷം യെഹൂദാമക്കൾ മലനാട്ടിലും തെക്കെ ദേശത്തിലും താഴ്വീതിയിലും പാൎത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്‌വാൻ പോയി. | And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley. |
| 10 | യെഹൂദാ ഹെബ്രോനിൽ പാൎത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരുടെ നേരെയും ചെന്നു; ഹെബ്രോന്നു പണ്ടു കിൎയ്യത്ത്-അൎബ്ബാ എന്നു പേർ. അവർ ശേശായി, അഹിമാൻ, തൽമായി എന്നവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു. | And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath–arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai. |
| 11 | അവിടെനിന്നു അവർ ദെബീർ നിവാസികളുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; ദെബീരിന്നു പണ്ടു കിൎയ്യത്ത്--സേഫെർ എന്നു പേർ. | And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath–sepher: |
| 12 | അപ്പോൾ കാലേബ്: കിൎയ്യത്ത്--സേഫെർ ജയിച്ചടക്കുന്നവന്നു ഞാൻ എന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ ഭാൎയ്യയായി കൊടുക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. | And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath–sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. |
| 13 | കാലേബിന്റെ അനുജനായ കെനസിന്റെ മകൻ ഒത്നീയേൽ അതു പിടിച്ചു; അവൻ തന്റെ മകൾ അക്സയെ അവന്നു ഭാൎയ്യയായി കൊടുത്തു. | And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. |
| 14 | അവൾ വന്നപ്പോൾ തന്റെ അപ്പനോടു ഒരു വയൽ ചോദിപ്പാൻ അവനെ ഉത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചു; അവൾ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തുനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ കാലേബ് അവളോടു: നിനക്കു എന്തുവേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. | And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou? |
| 15 | അവൾ അവനോടു ഒരു അനുഗ്രഹം എനിക്കു തരേണമേ; നീ എന്നെ തെക്കൻ നാട്ടിലേക്കല്ലോ കൊടുത്തതു; നീരുറവുകളും എനിക്കു തരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; കാലേബ് അവൾക്കു മലയിലും താഴ്വരയിലും നീരുറവുകൾ കൊടുത്തു. | And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs. |
| 16 | മോശെയുടെ അളിയനായ കേന്യന്റെ മക്കൾ യെഹൂദാമക്കളോടുകൂടെ ഈന്തപ്പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു അരാദിന്നു തെക്കുള്ള യെഹൂദാമരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പോയി; അവർ ചെന്നു ജനത്തോടുകൂടെ പാൎത്തു. | And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people. |
| 17 | പിന്നെ യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോനോടുകൂടെ പോയി, അവർ സെഫാത്തിൽ പാൎത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ വെട്ടി അതിനെ നിൎമ്മൂലമാക്കി; ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു ഹോൎമ്മ എന്നു പേർ ഇട്ടു. | And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah. |
| 18 | യെഹൂദാ ഗസ്സയും അതിന്റെ അതിർനാടും അസ്കലോനും അതിന്റെ അതിർനാടും എക്രോനും അതിന്റെ അതിർനാടും പിടിച്ചു. | Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof. |
| 19 | യഹോവ യെഹൂദയോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ മലനാടു കൈവശമാക്കി; എന്നാൽ താഴ്വരയിലെ നിവാസികൾക്കു ഇരിമ്പുരഥങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളവാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. | And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron. |
| 20 | മോശെ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അവർ കാലേബിന്നു ഹെബ്രോൻ കൊടുത്തു; അവൻ അവിടെനിന്നു അനാക്കിന്റെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു. | And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak. |
| 21 | ബെന്യാമീൻമക്കൾ യെരൂശലേമിൽ പാൎത്തിരുന്ന യെബൂസ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; യെബൂസ്യർ ഇന്നുവരെ ബെന്യാമീൻമക്കളോടു കൂടെ യെരൂശലേമിൽ പാൎത്തുവരുന്നു. | And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day. |
| 22 | യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ബേഥേലിലേക്കു കയറിച്ചെന്നു; യഹോവ അവരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. | And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth–el: and the Lord was with them. |
| 23 | യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ബേഥേൽ ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ ആളയച്ചു; ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരായിരുന്നു. | And the house of Joseph sent to descry Beth–el. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.) |
| 24 | പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്ന ഒരുത്തനെ ഒറ്റുകാർ കണ്ടു അവനോടു: പട്ടണത്തിൽ കടപ്പാൻ ഒരു വഴി കാണിച്ചുതരേണം; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്നോടു ദയചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. | And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy. |
| 25 | അവൻ പട്ടണത്തിൽ കടപ്പാനുള്ള വഴി അവൎക്കു കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവർ പട്ടണത്തെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാൽ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു, ആ മനുഷ്യനെയും അവന്റെ സകല കുടുംബത്തെയും വിട്ടയച്ചു. | And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family. |
| 26 | അവൻ ഹിത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു അതിന്നു ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; അതിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ അതു തന്നേ പേർ. | And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day. |
| 27 | മനശ്ശെ ബേത്ത്--ശെയാനിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും താനാക്കിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും ദോരിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും യിബ്ളെയാമിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും മെഗിദ്ദോവിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും പാൎത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല. കനാന്യൎക്കു ആ ദേശത്തു തന്നേ പാൎപ്പാനുള്ള താല്പൎയ്യം സാധിച്ചു. | Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. |
| 28 | എന്നാൽ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ബലം കൂടിയപ്പോൾ അവർ കന്യാന്യരെ മുഴുവനും നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഊഴിയവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു. | And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out. |
| 29 | എഫ്രയീം ഗേസെരിൽ പാൎത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യർ ഗേസെരിൽ അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാൎത്തു. | Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them. |
| 30 | സെബൂലൂൻ കിത്രോനിലും നഹലോലിലും പാൎത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യർ ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരായിത്തീൎന്നു അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാൎത്തു. | Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries. |
| 31 | ആശേർ അക്കോവിലും സീദോനിലും അഹ്ലാബിലും അക്സീബിലും ഹെൽബയിലും അഫീക്കിലും രെഹോബിലും പാൎത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല. | Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob: |
| 32 | അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ആശേര്യർ ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാൎത്തു. | But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out. |
| 33 | നഫ്താലി ബേത്ത്--ശേമെശിലും ബേത്ത്--അനാത്തിലും പാൎത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെ ഇടയിൽ പാൎത്തു; എന്നാൽ ബേത്ത്--ശേമെശിലെയും ബേത്ത്--അനാത്തിലെയും നിവാസികൾ അവൎക്കു ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരായിത്തീൎന്നു. | Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth–anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth–shemesh and of Beth–anath became tributaries unto them. |
| 34 | അമോൎയ്യർ ദാൻമക്കളെ തിക്കിത്തള്ളി മലനാട്ടിൽ കയറ്റി; താഴ്വരയിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങുവാൻ അവരെ സമ്മതിച്ചതുമില്ല. | And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley: |
| 35 | അങ്ങനെ അമോൎയ്യൎക്കു ഹർഹേരെസിലും അയ്യാലോനിലും ശാൽബീമിലും പാൎപ്പാനുള്ള താല്പൎയ്യം സാധിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിന്നു ബലംകൂടിയപ്പോൾ അവരെ ഊഴിയ വേലക്കാരാക്കിത്തീൎത്തു. | But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries. |
| 36 | അമോൎയ്യരുടെ അതിർ അക്രബ്ബിംകയറ്റവും സേലയും മുതൽ പിന്നെയും മേലോട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. | And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward. |
