1 ആ കാലത്തു ശിഷ്യന്മാർ പെരുകിവരുമ്പോൾ തങ്ങളുടെ വിധവമാരെ ദിനംപ്രതിയുള്ള ശുശ്രുഷയിൽ ഉപേക്ഷയായി വിചാരിച്ചു എന്നു യവനഭാഷക്കാർ എബ്രായഭാഷക്കാരുടെ നേരെ പിറുപിറുത്തു. And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2 പന്തിരുവർ ശിഷ്യന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി: ഞങ്ങൾ ദൈവവചനം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു മേശകളിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്യുന്നതു യോഗ്യമല്ല. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 ആകയാൽ സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ആത്മാവും ജ്ഞാനവും നിറഞ്ഞു നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യമുള്ള ഏഴു പുരുഷന്മാരെ നിങ്ങളിൽ തന്നേ തിരഞ്ഞുകൊൾവിൻ; അവരെ ഈ വേലെക്കു ആക്കാം. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 ഞങ്ങളോ പ്രാൎത്ഥനയിലും വചനശുശ്രൂഷയിലും ഉറ്റിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5 ഈ വാക്കു കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു ഒക്കെയും ബോദ്ധ്യമായി; വിശ്വാസവും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവും നിറഞ്ഞ പുരുഷനായ സ്തെഫാനൊസ്, ഫിലിപ്പൊസ്, പ്രൊഖൊരൊസ്, നിക്കാനോർ, തിമോൻ, പൎമ്മെനാസ്, യെഹൂദമതാനുസാരിയായ അന്ത്യോക്യക്കാരൻ നിക്കൊലാവൊസ് എന്നിവരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു, And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6 അപ്പൊസ്തലന്മാരുടെ മുമ്പാകെ നിറുത്തി; അവർ പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചു അവരുടെ മേൽ കൈവെച്ചു. Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 ദൈവവചനം പരന്നു, യെരൂശലേമിൽ ശിഷ്യന്മാരുടെ എണ്ണം ഏറ്റവും പെരുകി, പുരോഹിതന്മാരിലും വലിയോരു കൂട്ടം വിശ്വാസത്തിന്നു അധീനരായിത്തീൎന്നു. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 അനന്തരം സ്തെഫാനൊസ് കൃപയും ശക്തിയും നിറഞ്ഞവനായി ജനത്തിൽ വലിയ അത്ഭുതങ്ങളും അടയാളങ്ങളും ചെയ്തു. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 ലിബൎത്തീനർ എന്നു പേരുള്ള പള്ളിക്കാരിലും കുറേനക്കാരിലും അലെക്സന്ത്രിയക്കാരിലും കിലിക്യ ആസ്യ എന്ന ദേശക്കാരിലും ചിലർ എഴുന്നേറ്റു സ്തെഫാനൊസിനോടു തൎക്കിച്ചു. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10 എന്നാൽ അവൻ സംസാരിച്ച ജ്ഞാനത്തോടും ആത്മാവോടും എതിൎത്തുനില്പാൻ അവൎക്കു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11 അപ്പോൾ അവർ ചില പുരുഷന്മാരെ വശത്താക്കി: ഇവൻ മോശെക്കും ദൈവത്തിന്നും വിരോധമായി ദൂഷണം പറയുന്നതു ഞങ്ങൾ കേട്ടു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു, Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12 ജനത്തേയും മൂപ്പന്മാരെയും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരെയും ഇളക്കി, അവന്റെ നേരെ ചെന്നു അവനെ പിടിച്ചു ന്യായാധിപസംഘത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയി And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13 കള്ളസ്സാക്ഷികളെ നിറുത്തി: ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ വിശുദ്ധസ്ഥലത്തിന്നും ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്നും വിരോധമായി ഇടവിടാതെ സംസാരിച്ചുവരുന്നു; And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
14 ആ നസറായനായ യേശു ഈ സ്ഥലം നശിപ്പിച്ചു മോശെ നമുക്കു ഏല്പിച്ച മൎയ്യാദകളെ മാറ്റിക്കളയും എന്നു അവൻ പറയുന്നതു ഞങ്ങൾ കേട്ടു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു. For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
15 ന്യായാധിപസംഘത്തിൽ ഇരുന്നവർ എല്ലാവരും അവനെ ഉറ്റുനോക്കി അവന്റെ മുഖം ഒരു ദൈവദൂതന്റെ മുഖംപോലെ കണ്ടു. And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
