μετὰ δὲ τὸ παύσασθαι Ελιουν τῆς λέξεως εἶπεν ὁ κύριος τῷ Ιωβ διὰ λαίλαπος καὶ νεφῶν | Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
τίς οὗτος ὁ κρύπτων με βουλήν συνέχων δὲ ῥήματα ἐν καρδίᾳ ἐμὲ δὲ οἴεται κρύπτειν | Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
ζῶσαι ὥσπερ ἀνὴρ τὴν ὀσφύν σου ἐρωτήσω δέ σε σὺ δέ μοι ἀποκρίθητι | Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
ποῦ ἦς ἐν τῷ θεμελιοῦν με τὴν γῆν ἀπάγγειλον δέ μοι εἰ ἐπίστῃ σύνεσιν | Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
τίς ἔθετο τὰ μέτρα αὐτῆς εἰ οἶδας ἢ τίς ὁ ἐπαγαγὼν σπαρτίον ἐπ’ αὐτῆς | Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
ἐπὶ τίνος οἱ κρίκοι αὐτῆς πεπήγασιν τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ βαλὼν λίθον γωνιαῖον ἐπ’ αὐτῆς | Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
ὅτε ἐγενήθησαν ἄστρα ᾔνεσάν με φωνῇ μεγάλῃ πάντες ἄγγελοί μου | When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
ἔφραξα δὲ θάλασσαν πύλαις ὅτε ἐμαίμασσεν ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτῆς ἐκπορευομένη | Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
ἐθέμην δὲ αὐτῇ νέφος ἀμφίασιν ὁμίχλῃ δὲ αὐτὴν ἐσπαργάνωσα | When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
ἐθέμην δὲ αὐτῇ ὅρια περιθεὶς κλεῖθρα καὶ πύλας | And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
εἶπα δὲ αὐτῇ μέχρι τούτου ἐλεύσῃ καὶ οὐχ ὑπερβήσῃ ἀλλ’ ἐν σεαυτῇ συντριβήσεταί σου τὰ κύματα | And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
ἦ ἐπὶ σοῦ συντέταχα φέγγος πρωινόν ἑωσφόρος δὲ εἶδεν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ τάξιν | Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
ἐπιλαβέσθαι πτερύγων γῆς ἐκτινάξαι ἀσεβεῖς ἐξ αὐτῆς | That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
ἦ σὺ λαβὼν γῆν πηλὸν ἔπλασας ζῷον καὶ λαλητὸν αὐτὸν ἔθου ἐπὶ γῆς | It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
ἀφεῖλας δὲ ἀπὸ ἀσεβῶν τὸ φῶς βραχίονα δὲ ὑπερηφάνων συνέτριψας | And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
ἦλθες δὲ ἐπὶ πηγὴν θαλάσσης ἐν δὲ ἴχνεσιν ἀβύσσου περιεπάτησας | Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
ἀνοίγονται δέ σοι φόβῳ πύλαι θανάτου πυλωροὶ δὲ ᾅδου ἰδόντες σε ἔπτηξαν | Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
νενουθέτησαι δὲ τὸ εὖρος τῆς ὑπ’ οὐρανόν ἀνάγγειλον δή μοι πόση τίς ἐστιν | Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
ποίᾳ δὲ γῇ αὐλίζεται τὸ φῶς σκότους δὲ ποῖος ὁ τόπος | Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
εἰ ἀγάγοις με εἰς ὅρια αὐτῶν εἰ δὲ καὶ ἐπίστασαι τρίβους αὐτῶν | That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
οἶδα ἄρα ὅτι τότε γεγέννησαι ἀριθμὸς δὲ ἐτῶν σου πολύς | Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
ἦλθες δὲ ἐπὶ θησαυροὺς χιόνος θησαυροὺς δὲ χαλάζης ἑόρακας | Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
ἀπόκειται δέ σοι εἰς ὥραν ἐχθρῶν εἰς ἡμέραν πολέμου καὶ μάχης | Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
πόθεν δὲ ἐκπορεύεται πάχνη ἢ διασκεδάννυται νότος εἰς τὴν ὑπ’ οὐρανόν | By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
τίς δὲ ἡτοίμασεν ὑετῷ λάβρῳ ῥύσιν ὁδὸν δὲ κυδοιμῶν | Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
τοῦ ὑετίσαι ἐπὶ γῆν οὗ οὐκ ἀνήρ ἔρημον οὗ οὐχ ὑπάρχει ἄνθρωπος ἐν αὐτῇ | To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
τοῦ χορτάσαι ἄβατον καὶ ἀοίκητον καὶ τοῦ ἐκβλαστῆσαι ἔξοδον χλόης | To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
τίς ἐστιν ὑετοῦ πατήρ τίς δέ ἐστιν ὁ τετοκὼς βώλους δρόσου | Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
ἐκ γαστρὸς δὲ τίνος ἐκπορεύεται ὁ κρύσταλλος πάχνην δὲ ἐν οὐρανῷ τίς τέτοκεν | Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
ἣ καταβαίνει ὥσπερ ὕδωρ ῥέον πρόσωπον δὲ ἀβύσσου τίς ἔπηξεν | The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
συνῆκας δὲ δεσμὸν Πλειάδος καὶ φραγμὸν Ὠρίωνος ἤνοιξας | Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
ἦ διανοίξεις μαζουρωθ ἐν καιρῷ αὐτοῦ καὶ Ἕσπερον ἐπὶ κόμης αὐτοῦ ἄξεις αὐτά | Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
ἐπίστασαι δὲ τροπὰς οὐρανοῦ ἢ τὰ ὑπ’ οὐρανὸν ὁμοθυμαδὸν γινόμενα | Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
καλέσεις δὲ νέφος φωνῇ καὶ τρόμῳ ὕδατος λάβρῳ ὑπακούσεταί σου | Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
ἀποστελεῖς δὲ κεραυνοὺς καὶ πορεύσονται ἐροῦσιν δέ σοι τί ἐστιν | Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
τίς δὲ ἔδωκεν γυναιξὶν ὑφάσματος σοφίαν ἢ ποικιλτικὴν ἐπιστήμην | Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
τίς δὲ ὁ ἀριθμῶν νέφη σοφίᾳ οὐρανὸν δὲ εἰς γῆν ἔκλινεν | Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
κέχυται δὲ ὥσπερ γῆ κονία κεκόλληκα δὲ αὐτὸν ὥσπερ λίθῳ κύβον | When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
θηρεύσεις δὲ λέουσιν βοράν ψυχὰς δὲ δρακόντων ἐμπλήσεις | Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
δεδοίκασιν γὰρ ἐν κοίταις αὐτῶν κάθηνται δὲ ἐν ὕλαις ἐνεδρεύοντες | When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
τίς δὲ ἡτοίμασεν κόρακι βοράν νεοσσοὶ γὰρ αὐτοῦ πρὸς κύριον κεκράγασιν πλανώμενοι τὰ σῖτα ζητοῦντες | Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
