|---|---|---|
ὀλέκομαι πνεύματι φερόμενος δέομαι δὲ ταφῆς καὶ οὐ τυγχάνω | My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.
λίσσομαι κάμνων καὶ τί ποιήσας | Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
ἔκλεψαν δέ μου τὰ ὑπάρχοντα ἀλλότριοι τίς ἐστιν οὗτος τῇ χειρί μου συνδεθήτω | Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
ὅτι καρδίαν αὐτῶν ἔκρυψας ἀπὸ φρονήσεως διὰ τοῦτο οὐ μὴ ὑψώσῃς αὐτούς | For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
τῇ μερίδι ἀναγγελεῖ κακίας ὀφθαλμοὶ δέ μου ἐφ’ υἱοῖς ἐτάκησαν | He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
ἔθου δέ με θρύλημα ἐν ἔθνεσιν γέλως δὲ αὐτοῖς ἀπέβην | He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.
πεπώρωνται γὰρ ἀπὸ ὀργῆς οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου πεπολιόρκημαι μεγάλως ὑπὸ πάντων | Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
θαῦμα ἔσχεν ἀληθινοὺς ἐπὶ τούτῳ δίκαιος δὲ ἐπὶ παρανόμῳ ἐπανασταίη | Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
σχοίη δὲ πιστὸς τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ὁδόν καθαρὸς δὲ χεῖρας ἀναλάβοι θάρσος | The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
οὐ μὴν δὲ ἀλλὰ πάντες ἐρείδετε καὶ δεῦτε δή οὐ γὰρ εὑρίσκω ἐν ὑμῖν ἀληθές | But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
αἱ ἡμέραι μου παρῆλθον ἐν βρόμῳ ἐρράγη δὲ τὰ ἄρθρα τῆς καρδίας μου | My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
νύκτα εἰς ἡμέραν ἔθηκαν φῶς ἐγγὺς ἀπὸ προσώπου σκότους | They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
ἐὰν γὰρ ὑπομείνω ᾅδης μου ὁ οἶκος ἐν δὲ γνόφῳ ἔστρωταί μου ἡ στρωμνή | If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
θάνατον ἐπεκαλεσάμην πατέρα μου εἶναι μητέρα δέ μου καὶ ἀδελφὴν σαπρίαν | I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
ποῦ οὖν μου ἔτι ἐστὶν ἡ ἐλπίς ἦ τὰ ἀγαθά μου ὄψομαι | And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
ἦ μετ’ ἐμοῦ εἰς ᾅδην καταβήσονται ἢ ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἐπὶ χώματος καταβησόμεθα | They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
