| 1 | Palavra que o profeta Jeremias falou a Baruque filho de Nerias, quando ele escrevia num livro aquelas palavras da boca de Jeremias, no quinto ano de Jeoaquim filho de Josias, rei de Judá, dizendo: | The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying, |
| 2 | Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel, quanto a ti, Baruque: | Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch; |
| 3 | Tu disseste: Ai de mim agora! Pois o SENHOR me acrescentou tristeza sobre minha dor; já estou cansado de meu gemido, e não acho descanso. | Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest. |
| 4 | Assim lhe dirás: Assim diz o SENHOR: Eis que o que edifiquei eu destruo; e o que plantei eu arranco, até toda esta terra. | Thus shalt thou say unto him, The Lord saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land. |
| 5 | E tu buscarias para ti grandezas? Não as busques; porque eis que eu trago o mal sobre toda carne, diz o SENHOR, mas conservarei tua vida em todos os lugares para onde fores. | And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest. |
