1	Wenn der Herr nicht das Haus baut,so arbeiten umsonst, die daran bauen.Wenn der Herr nicht die Stadt behütet,so wacht der Wächter umsonst.	Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2	An Gottes Segen ist alles gelegen / Von Salomo, ein Wallfahrtslied. Es ist umsonst, dass ihr früh aufsteht und hernach lange sitzet und esset euer Brot mit Sorgen; denn seinen Freunden gibt er es im Schlaf.	It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3	Siehe, Kinder sind eine Gabe des Herrn, und Leibesfrucht ist ein Geschenk.	Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4	Wie Pfeile in der Hand eines Starken, so sind die Söhne der Jugendzeit.	As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5	Wohl dem, der seinen Köcher mit ihnen gefüllt hat! Sie werden nicht zuschanden, wenn sie mit ihren Feinden verhandeln im Tor.	Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
