1	Israel dient dem Baal-Peor und wird bestraft Und Israel lagerte in Schittim. Da fing das Volk an zu huren mit den Töchtern der Moabiter;	And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.
2	die luden das Volk zu den Opfern ihrer Götter. Und das Volk aß und betete ihre Götter an.	And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
3	Und Israel hängte sich an den Baal-Peor. Da entbrannte des Herrn Zorn über Israel,	And Israel joined himself unto Baal–peor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.
4	und er sprach zu Mose: Nimm alle Oberen des Volks und hänge sie vor dem Herrn auf im Angesicht der Sonne, damit sich der grimmige Zorn des Herrn von Israel wende.	And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.
5	Mose aber sprach zu den Richtern Israels: Töte ein jeder seine Leute, die sich an den Baal-Peor gehängt haben.	And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal–peor.
6	Und siehe, ein Mann aus Israel kam und brachte unter seine Brüder eine Midianiterin vor den Augen des Mose und der ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten, die da weinten vor dem Eingang der Stiftshütte.	And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
7	Als das Pinhas sah, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes des Priesters Aaron, stand er auf aus der Gemeinde und nahm einen Spieß in seine Hand	And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
8	und ging dem israelitischen Mann nach in die Kammer und durchstach sie beide, den israelitischen Mann und die Frau, durch ihren Leib. Da hörte die Plage auf unter den Israeliten.	And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9	Es waren aber durch die Plage getötet worden vierundzwanzigtausend.	And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
10	Und der Herr redete mit Mose und sprach:	And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
11	Pinhas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes des Priesters Aaron, hat meinen Grimm von den Israeliten gewendet durch seinen Eifer um mich, dass ich nicht in meinem Eifer die Israeliten vertilgte.	Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12	Darum sage: Siehe, ich gebe ihm meinen Bund des Friedens.	Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
13	Dieser soll ihm und seinen Nachkommen der Bund des ewigen Priestertums sein, weil er für seinen Gott geeifert und für die Israeliten Sühne geschafft hat.	And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
14	Der israelitische Mann aber, der erschlagen wurde mit der Midianiterin, hieß Simri, der Sohn Salus, der Oberste einer Sippe der Simeoniter.	Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.
15	Die midianitische Frau, die auch erschlagen wurde, hieß Kosbi, eine Tochter Zurs, des Hauptes eines Geschlechtes unter den Midianitern.	And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
16	Und der Herr redete mit Mose und sprach:	And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
17	Tut den Midianitern Schaden und schlagt sie;	Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
18	denn sie haben euch Schaden getan mit ihrer List, die sie gegen euch geübt haben durch den Peor und durch ihre Schwester Kosbi, die Tochter eines Obersten der Midianiter, die erschlagen wurde am Tag der Plage, die um des Peor willen kam.	For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake.
