1 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥과 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 민족들의 왕 디달의 시대에 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;
2 이들이 소돔 왕 베라와 고모라 왕 비르사와 아드마 왕 시납과 스보임 왕 세메벨과 벨라 곧 소알 왕과 싸우더라. That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
3 이들이 다 싯딤 골짜기 곧 염해에서 함께 연합하였더라. All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
4 저들이 열두 해 동안 그돌라오멜을 섬기다가 열세째 해에 반역을 일으키매 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 열넷째 해에 그돌라오멜과 그와 함께한 왕들이 와서 아스드롯 가르나임에서 르바 족속을, 함에서 수스 족속을, 사웨기랴다임에서 엠 족속을 치고 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
6 또 호리 족속을 그들의 산 세일에서 치고 광야 옆에 있는 엘바란까지 이르렀더라. And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto El–paran, which is by the wilderness.
7 또 그들이 되돌아와서 엔미스밧 곧 가데스에 이르러 아말렉 족속의 온 지방과 또 하세손다말에 거하던 아모리 족속을 치매 And they returned, and came to En–mishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezon–tamar.
8 소돔 왕과 고모라 왕과 아드마 왕과 스보임 왕과 벨라 (곧 소알) 왕이 나가서 싯딤 골짜기에서 그들과 싸웠으니 And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;
9 곧 이 다섯 왕이 네 왕 즉 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 민족들의 왕 디달과 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥과 싸웠더라. With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.
10 싯딤 골짜기에는 진흙 구덩이가 많았으므로 소돔과 고모라의 왕들이 달아날 때에 거기 빠지고 남은 자들은 산으로 도망하매 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
11 그들이 소돔과 고모라의 모든 재물과 그들의 모든 양식을 빼앗아 자기 길로 가고 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.
12 소돔에 거하던 아브람의 조카 롯과 그의 재물도 취한 뒤 떠나갔더라. And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13 ¶한 사람이 도피하여 히브리 사람 아브람에게 고하니 이는 그가 아모리 족속 마므레의 평야에 거하였기 때문이더라. 마므레는 에스골의 형제요, 또 아넬의 형제더라. 이들이 아브람과 동맹을 맺었더라. And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
14 아브람이 자기 형제가 포로가 되었다는 것을 듣고 자기 집에서 태어나 훈련을 받은 종 삼백십팔 명을 무장시켜 단까지 그들을 쫓아가서 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15 그들을 대적하려고 밤에 직접 자기와 자기 종들을 나누어 그들을 치고 다마스쿠스 왼쪽에 있는 호바까지 그들을 쫓아가서 And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16 모든 재물을 되찾아오며 또 자기 형제 롯과 그의 재물과 또 여인들과 사람들도 되찾아왔더라. And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
17 ¶그가 그돌라오멜과 또 그와 함께한 왕들을 살육하고 돌아올 때에 소돔 왕이 사웨 골짜기 곧 왕의 골짜기에 나와 그를 맞이하였고 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale.
18 살렘 왕 멜기세덱이 빵과 포도즙을 가지고 나왔는데 그는 지극히 높으신 하나님의 제사장이었더라. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 그가 아브람을 축복하여 이르되, 하늘과 땅의 소유주 되시는 지극히 높으신 하나님의 아브람에게 복이 있을지어다. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
20 네 원수들을 네 손에 넘겨주신 지극히 높으신 하나님을 찬송할지어다, 하매 그가 모든 것의 십분의 일을 그에게 주니라. And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
21 소돔 왕이 아브람에게 이르되, 사람들은 내게 주고 재물은 네가 취하라, 하매 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
22 아브람이 소돔 왕에게 이르되, 내가 하늘과 땅의 소유주 되시는 지극히 높으신 하나님 곧 주께 내 손을 들어 맹세하였노니 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
23 이것은 네가 이르기를, 내가 아브람을 부자로 만들었다, 할까 염려하여 네게 속한 것은 실오라기 하나나 신발 끈 하나라도 내가 취하지 아니하려 함이라. That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
24 다만 청년들이 먹은 것과 나와 함께 간 사람들 곧 아넬과 에스골과 마므레의 몫은 예외이니 그들이 자기 몫을 취할 것이니라, 하니라. Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
