| 1 | 사랑하는 자들아, 영을 다 믿지 말고 오직 그 영들이 하나님께 속하였는지 그것들을 시험하라. 이는 많은 거짓 대언자들이 나와서 세상에 들어왔기 때문이라. | Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. |

| 3 | 예수 그리스도께서 육체 안에 오신 것을 시인하지 아니하는 영마다 하나님께 속하지 아니하였나니 이것이 적그리스도의 그 영이니라. 그것에 관하여는 그것이 오리라는 말을 너희가 들었거니와 그것이 지금 이미 세상에 있느니라. | And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. |

| 5 | 그들은 세상에 속하였으므로 그들이 세상에 대한 말을 하면 세상이 그들의 말을 듣느니라. | They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. |
| 6 | 우리는 하나님께 속하였은즉 하나님을 아는 자는 우리의 말을 듣고 하나님께 속하지 아니한 자는 우리의 말을 듣지 아니하나니 이로써 우리가 진리의 영과 오류의 영을 아느니라. | We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. |

| 8 | 사랑하지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 알지 못하나니 이는 하나님이 사랑이시기 때문이라. | He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. |
| 9 | 하나님께서 자신의 독생자를 세상에 보내사 우리가 그분을 통해 살게 하셨은즉 이것 안에서 하나님의 사랑이 우리를 향해 나타났느니라. | In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. |
| 10 | 우리가 하나님을 사랑하지 아니하였으나 그분께서 우리를 사랑하시고 자신의 아들을 보내사 우리의 죄들로 인한 화해 헌물로 삼으셨나니 여기에 사랑이 있느니라. | Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. |
| 11 | 사랑하는 자들아, 하나님께서 우리를 이처럼 사랑하셨은즉 우리도 서로 사랑하는 것이 마땅하니라. | Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. |
| 12 | 어느 때나 아무도 하나님을 보지 못하였으되 만일 우리가 서로 사랑하면 하나님께서 우리 안에 거하시고 그분의 사랑이 우리 안에서 완전하게 되었느니라. | No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. |
| 13 | 그분께서 자신의 영으로부터 우리에게 주셨으므로 이로써 우리가 그분 안에 거하고 그분께서 우리 안에 거하시는 줄을 우리가 아느니라. | Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. |
| 14 | 아버지께서 아들을 세상의 구원자로 보내신 것을 우리가 보았고 증언하노니 | And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. |
| 15 | 예수님께서 하나님의 아들이심을 시인할 자가 누구든지 하나님께서 그 안에 거하시고 그도 하나님 안에 거하느니라. | Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. |
| 16 | 우리를 향해 하나님이 가지고 계신 사랑을 우리가 알았고 또 믿었나니 하나님은 사랑이시므로 사랑 안에 거하는 자는 하나님 안에 거하고 하나님도 그 안에 거하시느니라. | And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. |
| 17 | 이 점에서 우리의 사랑이 완전하게 되었나니 이것은 우리가 심판 날에 담대함을 가지게 하려 함이라. 이는 그분께서 어떠하신 것 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하기 때문이니라. | Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. |
| 18 | 사랑에는 결코 두려움이 없고 완전한 사랑은 두려움을 내쫓나니 이는 두려움에 고통이 있기 때문이라. 두려워하는 자는 사랑 안에서 완전하게 되지 못하였느니라. | There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. |

| 20 | 어떤 사람이, 나는 하나님을 사랑하노라, 하고 자기 형제를 미워하면 그는 거짓말하는 자니 자기가 본 자기 형제를 사랑하지 아니하는 자가 어찌 자기가 보지 못한 하나님을 사랑할 수 있으리요? | If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? |
| 21 | 하나님을 사랑하는 자는 또한 자기 형제를 사랑하라는 이 명령을 우리가 그분께 받았느니라. | And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. |
