1 이제 유월절 전에 예수님께서 자기 때가 이르러 자기가 이 세상을 떠나 아버지께로 가야 할 줄 아시고 세상에 있던 자기 사람들을 사랑하시되 끝까지 사랑하시니라. Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 저녁 식사가 끝날 무렵에 이제 마귀가 시몬의 아들 가룟 유다의 마음속에 그분을 배반하여 넘겨주려는 생각을 넣었더라. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;
3 예수님께서는 아버지께서 모든 것을 자기 손에 맡기신 것과 또 자기가 하나님으로부터 왔다가 하나님께로 갈 것을 아시고 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 저녁 식사 자리에서 일어나 겉옷을 벗고 수건을 가져다가 몸에 두르시며 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 그 뒤에 대야에 물을 부어 제자들의 발을 씻으시고 몸에 두른 수건으로 닦기 시작하시니라. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 그때에 그분께서 시몬 베드로에게 다가가시니 베드로가 그분께 말하되, 주여, 주께서 내 발을 씻으시나이까? 하매 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 예수님께서 그에게 대답하여 이르시되, 내가 하는 것을 네가 지금은 알지 못하나 이후에는 알리라, 하시니 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 베드로가 그분께 이르되, 절대로 주께서 내 발을 씻지 못하시리이다, 하매 예수님께서 그에게 응답하시되, 내가 너를 씻어 주지 아니하면 나와 함께할 몫이 네게 없느니라, 하시니라. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 시몬 베드로가 그분께 이르되, 주여, 내 발뿐 아니라 손과 머리도 씻어 주옵소서, 하매 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 예수님께서 그에게 이르시되, 이미 씻긴 자는 모든 곳이 깨끗하므로 발밖에 씻을 필요가 없느니라. 너희가 깨끗하나 다는 아니니라, 하시니 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 이는 그분께서 자기를 배반하여 넘길 자가 누구인지 아셨기 때문이라. 그러므로 그분께서, 너희가 다 깨끗하지는 아니하니라, 하시니라. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 이처럼 그분께서 그들의 발을 씻어 주시고 옷을 입으신 뒤에 다시 자리를 잡고 그들에게 이르시되, 내가 너희에게 행한 것을 너희가 아느냐? So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 너희가 나를 선생과 주라 부르니 너희 말이 옳도다. 내가 그러하니라. Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 그런즉 너희 주와 선생인 내가 너희 발을 씻어 주었으니 너희도 서로 발을 씻어 주는 것이 마땅하니라. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
15 내가 너희에게 행한 것 같이 너희도 행하게 하려고 내가 너희에게 본보기를 주었느니라. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 종이 자기 주인보다 크지 못하고 보내어진 자가 그를 보낸 자보다 크지 못하니라. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 너희가 이것들을 알고 그것들을 행하면 행복하니라. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 ¶내가 너희 모두를 가리켜 말하지 아니하노니 나는 내가 택한 자들이 누구인지 아노라. 그러나, 나와 함께 빵을 먹는 자가 자기 발꿈치를 들어 나를 대적하였나이다, 한 성경 기록이 성취되게 하려 하노라. I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 그것이 일어나기 전에 내가 지금 너희에게 말하는 것은 그것이 일어날 때에 내가 그인 줄을 너희가 믿게 하려 함이니라. Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20 진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 내가 보내는 자를 받아들이는 자는 나를 받아들이며 나를 받아들이는 자는 나를 보내신 분을 받아들이느니라, 하시니라. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
21 예수님께서 이렇게 말씀하시고 영으로 괴로워하사 증언하여 이르시되, 진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 이르노니, 너희 중의 한 사람이 나를 배반하여 넘겨주리라, 하시매 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 이에 제자들이 서로 바라보며 그분께서 누구를 가리켜 말씀하셨는지 의아해하더라. Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 이제 예수님의 제자들 중의 하나 곧 그분께서 사랑하신 자가 예수님의 품에 기대어 있으므로 Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 시몬 베드로가 그에게 고갯짓을 하여 그분께서 말씀하신 자가 누구인지 그가 여쭙게 하니 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 이에 그가 예수님의 가슴에 누워 그분께 이르되, 주여, 그게 누구니이까? 하매 He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 예수님께서 대답하시되, 내가 빵 한 조각을 적셔다 주는 자가 그니라, 하시고 빵 한 조각을 적시사 시몬의 아들 가룟 유다에게 주시니라. Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 빵 조각을 받은 뒤에 사탄이 그 속에 들어가매 그때에 예수님께서 그에게 이르시되, 네가 하는 일을 속히 하라, 하시니라. And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 이제 상에 앉은 자 중에는 아무도 그분께서 무슨 뜻으로 그에게 이것을 말씀하셨는지 알지 못하고 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 그들 중의 어떤 이들은 유다가 가방을 가졌으므로 예수님께서 그에게, 명절을 대비하여 우리에게 필요한 그것들을 사라, 하고 말씀하셨거나 또는 그가 가난한 자들에게 무엇을 주어야 한다고 하신 줄 생각하더라. For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 그때에 그가 빵 조각을 받고 곧 나가니 때는 밤이더라. He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
31 ¶그러므로 그가 나간 뒤에 예수님께서 이르시되, 이제 사람의 아들이 영광을 받았고 하나님께서도 그 안에서 영광을 받으셨도다. Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 만일 하나님께서 그 안에서 영광을 받으셨으면 하나님께서도 자신 안에서 그에게 영광을 주실 것이요, 즉시 그에게 영광을 주시리라. If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33 어린 아이들아, 내가 아직 잠시 동안은 너희와 함께 있노라. 너희가 나를 찾을 터이나 내가 유대인들에게 말하기를, 내가 가는 곳에 너희가 오지 못하리라, 한 것 같이 지금 너희에게도 그렇게 말하노라. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
34 내가 새 명령을 너희에게 주노니 너희는 서로 사랑하라. 내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 너희가 서로 사랑하면 이로써 모든 사람이 너희가 내 제자인 줄 알리라, 하시니라. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36 ¶시몬 베드로가 그분께 이르되, 주여, 어디로 가시나이까? 하니 예수님께서 그에게 대답하시되, 내가 가는 곳에 네가 지금은 나를 따라올 수 없으나 나중에는 따라오리라, 하시거늘 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 베드로가 그분께 이르되, 주여, 어찌하여 내가 지금은 주를 따라갈 수 없나이까? 내가 주를 위해 내 생명을 내놓겠나이다, 하매 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 예수님께서 그에게 대답하시되, 네가 나를 위해 네 생명을 내놓겠느냐? 진실로 진실로 내가 네게 이르노니, 수탉이 울기 전에 네가 세 번 나를 부인하리라, 하시니라. Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
