1 에베소 교회의 천사에게 쓰라. 오른손에 일곱 별을 붙잡고 있는 이 곧 일곱 금 등잔대의 한가운데를 거니는 이가 이것들을 말하노라. Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 내가 네 행위와 수고와 인내와 또 네가 악한 자들을 용납하지 못함을 아노니 스스로 사도라고 말하나 사도가 아닌 자들을 네가 시험하여 그들이 거짓말하는 자들임을 알아내었으며 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 또 참고 인내하며 내 이름을 위해 수고하고 낙심하지 아니하였느니라. And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 그럼에도 불구하고 내가 너를 책망할 것이 조금 있나니 이는 네가 너의 처음 사랑을 버렸기 때문이라. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 그러므로 네가 어디로부터 떨어졌는지 기억하고 회개하며 처음 행위를 하라. 만일 그리하지 아니하고 네가 회개하지 아니하면 내가 속히 네게 가서 네 등잔대를 그것의 자리에서 옮기리라. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
6 그러나 네게 이것이 있으니 곧 네가 니골라당의 행위를 미워하는도다. 나도 그것을 미워하노라. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
7 귀 있는 자는 성령께서 교회들에 말씀하시는 것을 들을지어다. 이기는 자에게는 내가 하나님의 낙원 한가운데 있는 생명나무에서 나는 것을 주어 먹게 하리라. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
8 서머나에 있는 교회의 천사에게 쓰라. 처음이요 마지막인 이 곧 전에 죽었다가 지금 살아 있는 이가 이것들을 말하노라. And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
9 내가 네 행위와 환난과 궁핍을 알며 (그러나 네가 부유하도다) 또 스스로 유대인이라 하나 유대인이 아니요 사탄의 회당인 자들의 신성모독을 아노라. I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
10 네가 장차 당할 그것들 중의 어떤 것도 두려워하지 말라. 보라, 마귀가 너희 중에서 몇 사람을 감옥에 던져 넣어 너희를 시험하리니 너희가 열흘 동안 환난을 당하리라. 너는 죽기까지 신실하라. 그리하면 내가 생명의 관을 네게 주리라. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
11 귀 있는 자는 성령께서 교회들에 말씀하시는 것을 들을지어다. 이기는 자는 둘째 사망에게 해를 입지 아니하리라. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
12 버가모에 있는 교회의 천사에게 쓰라. 양날 달린 날카로운 검을 가진 이가 이것들을 말하노라. And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;
13 내가 네 행위를 알고 또 네가 거하는 곳을 아노니 즉 사탄의 자리가 있는 곳이라. 네가 내 이름을 굳게 붙잡고 안디바가 나의 신실한 순교자가 되어 너희 가운데서 곧 사탄이 거하는 곳에서 죽임을 당한 그때에도 나의 믿음을 부인하지 아니하였도다. I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
14 그러나 내가 너를 책망할 것이 몇 가지 있나니 이는 거기에 발람의 교리를 붙잡는 자들이 네게 있기 때문이로다. 그가 발락을 가르쳐 이스라엘 자손 앞에 걸림돌을 놓게 하고 우상들에게 희생물로 바친 것들을 먹게 하며 또 음행하게 하였느니라. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15 이와 같이 네게도 니골라당의 교리를 붙잡는 자들이 있거니와 내가 그것을 미워하노라. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.
16 회개하라. 그리하지 아니하면 내가 속히 네게 가서 내 입의 칼로 그들과 싸우리라. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17 귀 있는 자는 성령께서 교회들에 말씀하시는 것을 들을지어다. 이기는 자에게는 내가 감추어 둔 만나를 주어 먹게 하고 또 흰 돌을 그에게 줄 터인데 그 돌에는 새 이름이 기록되어 있어 그 돌을 받는 자 외에는 아무도 그 이름을 알지 못하느니라. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
18 두아디라에 있는 교회의 천사에게 쓰라. 불꽃 같은 눈과 정제된 놋 같은 발을 가진 하나님의 아들이 이것들을 말하노라. And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
19 내가 네 행위와 사랑과 섬김과 믿음과 네 인내와 네 행위를 아노니 마지막 것이 처음 것보다 더 많도다. I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
20 그럼에도 불구하고 내가 너를 책망할 것이 몇 가지 있으니 이는 네가 이세벨이라는 그 여자를 용납하기 때문이라. 그녀가 자기를 가리켜 여대언자라 하며 내 종들을 가르치고 꾀어 음행하게 하고 또 우상들에게 희생물로 바친 것들을 먹게 하는도다. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
21 내가 그녀에게 그녀의 음행을 회개할 여지를 주었으나 그녀가 회개하지 아니하였도다. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
22 보라, 내가 그녀를 침상에 던져 넣을 것이요 그녀와 함께 간음하는 자들도 만일 자기 행실을 회개하지 아니하면 큰 환난 속에 던져 넣을 것이며 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
23 또 내가 사망으로 그녀의 자녀들을 죽이리니 그리하면 모든 교회가 나는 곧 속 중심과 마음을 살피는 자인 줄 알리라. 또 내가 너희 행위에 따라 너희 각 사람에게 주리라. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
24 그러나 내가 너희와 두아디라에 있는 남은 자들 곧 이 교리를 가지지 아니하고 그들이 말하는 대로 사탄의 깊은 곳을 알지 아니한 모든 자들에게 말하노니 내가 어떤 다른 짐도 너희에게 지우지 아니하리라. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
25 다만 너희가 이미 가지고 있는 것을 내가 올 때까지 굳게 붙잡으라. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
26 이기고 나의 행위를 끝까지 지키는 자에게는 내가 민족들을 다스릴 권능을 주리니 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 그가 철장으로 그들을 다스리며 토기장이의 그릇같이 부수어 산산조각 내리라. 이것은 곧 내가 내 아버지에게서 받은 것과 같으니라. And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
28 내가 또 그에게 새벽별을 주리라. And I will give him the morning star.
29 귀 있는 자는 성령께서 교회들에 말씀하시는 것을 들을지어다. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
