1 이스라엘 왕 여호아하스의 아들 요아스의 제이년에 유다 왕 요아스의 아들 아마샤가 통치하니라. In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.
2 그가 통치하기 시작할 때에 나이가 이십오 세더라. 그가 예루살렘에서 이십구 년 동안 통치하니라. 그의 어머니의 이름은 예루살렘의 여호앗단이더라. He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
3 그가 주의 눈앞에서 올바른 것을 행하였으나 자기 조상 다윗과 같지는 아니하였더라. 그가 자기 아버지 요아스가 행한 대로 모든 것을 행하였으나 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.
4 산당들은 제거하지 아니하였으므로 백성이 여전히 산당들에서 희생물을 드리며 분향하였더라. Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
5 ¶왕국이 자기 손에서 확고히 서매 그가 왕이던 자기 아버지를 죽인 자기 신하들을 죽였으나 And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
6 모세의 율법 책에 기록된 것에 따라 살인자들의 자녀들은 죽이지 아니하였더라. 그 안에서 주께서 명령하여 이르시기를, 자녀들로 인하여 아버지들을 죽이지 말며 아버지들로 인하여 자녀들을 죽이지 말라. 오직 각 사람은 자기 죄로 인하여 죽을 것이니라, 하셨더라. But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7 그가 소금 골짜기에서 에돔에 속한 자 만 명을 죽이고 또 싸워서 셀라를 점령하고 그것의 이름을 욕드엘이라 하였더니 이 날까지 이르니라. He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
8 ¶그때에 아마샤가 예후의 손자요, 여호아하스의 아들인 이스라엘 왕 여호아스에게 사자들을 보내어 이르되, 오라, 우리가 서로 대면하자, 하니라. Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
9 이스라엘 왕 여호아스가 유다 왕 아마샤에게 사람을 보내어 이르되, 레바논의 가시나무가 레바논의 백향목에게 전갈을 보내어 말하기를, 네 딸을 내 아들에게 아내로 주라, 하였더니 레바논의 들짐승이 지나가다가 그 가시나무를 짓밟았느니라. And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
10 네가 참으로 에돔을 쳤으므로 네 마음이 너를 높였으니 이것으로 영광을 삼고 집에나 거하라. 어찌하여 네가 화를 입으려고 간섭함으로 너와 또 너와 함께한 유다가 쓰러지려 하느냐? 하였으나 Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
11 아마샤가 들으려 하지 아니하므로 이스라엘 왕 여호아스가 올라와서 그와 유다 왕 아마샤가 유다에 속한 벧세메스에서 서로 대면하였는데 But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth–shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
12 유다가 이스라엘 앞에서 패하여 그들이 각각 자기 장막으로 도망하니라. And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
13 이스라엘 왕 여호아스가 벧세메스에서 아하시야의 손자요, 여호아스의 아들인 유다 왕 아마샤를 사로잡고 또 예루살렘에 이르러 예루살렘 성벽을 헐되 에브라임 문에서부터 모퉁이 문까지 사백 큐빗을 헐며 And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth–shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14 또 주의 집과 왕의 집의 보고에서 찾은 모든 금과 은과 모든 그릇을 취하고 또 사람들을 볼모로 잡아서 사마리아로 돌아갔더라. And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15 ¶이제 여호아스가 행한 나머지 행적과 그의 권력과 또 그가 유다 왕 아마샤와 싸운 일은 이스라엘 왕들의 연대기 책에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16 여호아스가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들어 이스라엘 왕들과 함께 사마리아에 묻히니 그의 아들 여로보암이 그를 대신하여 통치하니라. And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.
17 ¶이스라엘 왕 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 죽은 뒤에 유다 왕 요아스의 아들 아마샤가 십오 년을 사니라. And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
18 아마샤의 나머지 행적은 유다 왕들의 연대기 책에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
19 이제 그들이 예루살렘에서 그를 대적하여 음모를 꾸몄으므로 그가 라기스로 도망하였더니 그들이 그의 뒤를 따라 라기스로 사람을 보내어 그를 거기서 죽이고 Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
20 그를 말에 실어 오니 그가 예루살렘에서 자기 조상들과 함께 다윗의 도시에 묻히니라. And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21 ¶유다의 온 백성이 아사랴를 취하여 그의 아버지 아마샤 대신 왕으로 삼았는데 그때에 그는 나이가 십육 세더라. And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
22 그 왕이 자기 조상들과 함께 잠든 뒤에 그가 엘랏을 건축하여 유다에 복귀시켰더라. He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
23 ¶유다 왕 요아스의 아들 아마샤의 제십오년에 이스라엘 왕 요아스의 아들 여로보암이 사마리아에서 통치하기 시작하여 사십일 년 동안 통치하였더라. In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.
24 그가 주의 눈앞에서 악한 것을 행하여 이스라엘로 하여금 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 모든 죄에서 떠나지 아니하였더라. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 자신의 종 가드헤벨 사람 아밋대의 아들 대언자 요나의 손으로 하신 말씀대로 그가 하맛의 입구에서부터 평야의 바다까지 이스라엘의 지경을 회복하였더라. He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath–hepher.
26 주께서 이스라엘의 고난이 매우 심하여 갇힌 자도 없고 남은 자도 없고 이스라엘을 도울 자도 없음을 보시고 For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
27 주께서 친히 이스라엘의 이름을 하늘 아래에서 지우리라고 말씀하지 아니하시고 요아스의 아들 여로보암의 손으로 그들을 구원하셨더라. And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28 ¶이제 여로보암의 나머지 행적과 그가 행한 모든 일과 그의 권력 곧 그가 싸운 일과 다마스쿠스를 회복한 일과 유다에 속하였던 하맛을 이스라엘을 위해 회복한 일은 이스라엘 왕들의 연대기 책에 기록되어 있지 아니하냐? Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29 여로보암이 자기 조상들 곧 이스라엘 왕들과 함께 잠드니 그의 아들 사가랴가 그를 대신하여 통치하니라. And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.
