| 1 | 너희 가운데서 전쟁과 싸움이 어디로부터 나느냐? 너희 지체 속에서 싸우는 너희의 정욕들로부터 나지 아니하느냐? | From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? |
| 2 | 너희가 욕심을 내도 갖지 못하고 죽여서 갖고자 해도 얻지 못하나니 너희가 다투고 싸워도 갖지 못함은 너희가 구하지 아니하기 때문이요, | Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. |
| 3 | 너희가 구하여도 받지 못함은 그것을 너희의 정욕에 쓰려고 잘못 구하기 때문이라. | Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. |
| 4 | 너희 간음하는 남자들과 간음하는 여자들아, 세상과 친구가 되는 것이 하나님과 원수 되는 것인 줄 너희가 알지 못하느냐? 그러므로 누구든지 세상의 친구가 되고자 하는 자는 하나님의 원수가 되느니라. | Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. |
| 5 | 너희는 성경 기록이, 우리 안에 거하는 영이 시기하기까지 욕심을 내느니라, 하고 헛되이 말하는 줄로 생각하느냐? | Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? |
| 6 | 그러나 그분께서 더 많은 은혜를 베푸시나니 그러므로 그분께서 이르시되, 하나님은 교만한 자들은 물리치시나 겸손한 자들에게는 은혜를 베푸느니라, 하시느니라. | But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. |
| 7 | 그러므로 하나님께 복종하라. 마귀를 대적하라. 그리하면 그가 너희에게서 도망하리라. | Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. |
| 8 | 하나님께 가까이 나아가라. 그리하면 그분께서 너희에게 가까이 오시리라. 너희 죄인들아, 너희 손을 정결하게 하라. 두 마음을 품은 자들아, 너희 마음을 순결하게 하라. | Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. |
| 9 | 고난을 받고 애곡하며 슬피 울지어다. 너희 웃음을 애곡으로 너희 기쁨을 근심으로 바꿀지어다. | Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. |
| 10 | 주의 눈앞에서 스스로 겸손하라. 그리하면 그분께서 너희를 높이시리라. | Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. |
| 11 | 형제들아, 서로 비방하지 말라. 자기 형제를 비방하는 자나 자기 형제를 판단하는 자는 율법을 비방하며 율법을 판단하는 자니라. 그러나 만일 네가 율법을 판단하면 율법을 행하는 자가 아니요 판단하는 자로다. | Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. |
| 12 | 율법을 주시는 이가 한 분 계시는데 그분께서 능히 구원하기도 하시며 멸하기도 하시느니라. 남을 판단하는 너는 누구냐? | There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? |
| 13 | 자, 이제 너희가 말하기를, 오늘이나 내일 우리가 어떤 도시에 가서 한 해 동안 거기 머물며 사고팔고 하여 이득을 얻으리라, 하거니와 | Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: |
| 14 | 내일 있을 일을 너희가 알지 못하는도다. 너희 생명이 무엇이냐? 그것은 곧 잠시 나타났다가 그 뒤에 사라져 버리는 수증기니라. | Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. |
| 15 | 그런 까닭에 너희가 마땅히 말하기를, 주께서 원하시면 우리가 살며 이것이나 저것을 하리라, 하여야 하나 | For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. |
| 16 | 이제 너희가 스스로 자랑하는 것을 기뻐하나니 그러한 기쁨은 다 악한 것이니라. | But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. |
| 17 | 그러므로 선을 행할 줄 알고도 행하지 아니하는 자에게는 곧 그에게는 그것이 죄가 되느니라. | Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. |
