1 주께서 호렙에서 이스라엘 자손과 맺으신 언약 외에 그분께서 모세에게 명령하사 모압 땅에서 또 그들과 맺으신 언약의 말씀들이 이러하니라. These are the words of the covenant, which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
2 ¶모세가 온 이스라엘을 불러 그들에게 이르되, 주께서 이집트 땅에서 너희 눈앞에서 파라오와 그의 모든 신하와 그의 온 땅에 행하신 모든 일을 너희가 보았나니 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
3 곧 큰 시험들과 표적들과 그 큰 기적들을 네 눈이 보았느니라. The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
4 그러나 깨닫는 마음과 보는 눈과 듣는 귀는 이 날까지 주께서 너희에게 주지 아니하셨느니라. Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
5 내가 사십 년간 광야에서 너희를 인도하였거니와 너희가 입은 옷이 낡지 아니하고 네 발의 신이 낡지 아니하였으며 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.
6 너희가 빵도 먹지 아니하고 포도즙이나 독주를 마시지 아니하였나니 이것은 내가 주 너희 하나님인 줄을 너희가 알게 하려 함이니라. Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the Lord your God.
7 너희가 이곳에 올 때에 헤스본 왕 시혼과 바산 왕 옥이 우리를 치려고 싸우러 나왔으므로 우리가 그들을 치고 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:
8 그들의 땅을 취하여 르우벤 족속과 갓 족속과 므낫세 반 지파에게 상속 재산으로 주었나니 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.
9 그런즉 이 언약의 말씀들을 지키고 행하라. 그리하면 너희가 하는 모든 일에서 너희가 형통하리라. Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
10 ¶이 날 너희 즉 너희 모두가 주 너희 하나님 앞에 서되 곧 너희 지파들의 대장들과 장로들과 직무 수행자들과 이스라엘의 모든 남자들과 Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,
11 너희의 어린것들과 아내들과 네 진영에 있는 나그네와 너를 위하여 나무를 패는 자로부터 물 긷는 자가 섰나니 Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:
12 이것은 네가 주 네 하나님과 함께 언약 속으로 들어가고 또 주 네 하나님께서 이 날 너와 맺으시는 그분의 맹세 속으로 들어가게 하려 함이며 That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the Lord thy God, and into his oath, which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day:
13 또 그분께서 전에 네게 말씀하신 대로 또 네 조상 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세하신 대로 친히 오늘 너를 굳게 세워 자신에게 한 백성으로 삼으시고 또 친히 네게 하나님이 되고자 하심이니라. That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14 내가 이 언약과 이 맹세를 너희와만 맺지 아니하고 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
15 이 날 주 우리 하나님 앞에서 우리와 함께 여기 선 자와 또한 이 날 우리와 함께 여기 있지 아니한 자와도 맺나니 But with him that standeth here with us this day before the Lord our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
16 (이는 이집트 땅에서 우리가 어떻게 거하였는지 또 너희가 지나온 민족들을 우리가 어떻게 통과해 왔는지 너희가 알며 (For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
17 또 그들 가운데 있던 그들의 가증한 것들과 그들의 우상들 즉 나무와 돌과 은과 금을 너희가 보았기 때문이니라.) And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
18 너희 가운데 남자나 여자나 가족이나 지파가 이 날 주 우리 하나님으로부터 마음을 돌리고 가서 이 민족들의 신들을 섬길까 염려하며 또 너희 가운데 쓴 것과 쑥을 내는 뿌리가 생길까 염려하노라. Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19 그가 이 저주의 말들을 듣고도 마음속으로 자신을 축복하여 이르기를, 내가 비록 내 마음의 상상 속에서 걸으며 목마름에 술 취함을 더하려 할지라도 내게 평안이 있으리라, 하리니 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20 주께서는 그를 용서하지 아니하실 뿐 아니라 주의 분노와 그분의 질투가 그 사람을 대적하여 연기를 뿜으며 또 이 책에 기록된 모든 저주가 그에게 놓이리라. 주께서 그의 이름을 하늘 아래에서 지워 버리시고 The Lord will not spare him, but then the anger of the Lord and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the Lord shall blot out his name from under heaven.
21 주께서 이스라엘의 모든 지파 중에서 그를 분리하사 이 율법 책에 기록된 언약의 모든 저주대로 화를 받게 하시리니 And the Lord shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:
22 그리하면 너희 뒤에 일어날 너희 자손들에게서 나올 세대와 먼 땅에서 오는 타국인이 그 땅의 재앙들과 주께서 그 땅에 내리신 질병들을 보며 말하기를, So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the Lord hath laid upon it;
23 거기의 온 땅이 유황이 되고 소금이 되며 또 불에 타서 심지도 못하고 열매 맺지도 못하며 그 안에 아무 풀도 나지 아니함이 마치 주께서 자신의 분노와 진노로 무너뜨린 소돔과 고모라와 아드마와 스보임의 무너짐과 같다, 할 것이요 And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
24 심지어 모든 민족들이 말하기를, 주께서 어찌하여 이 땅에 이같이 행하셨느냐？ 이 큰 분노의 열기가 무엇을 뜻하느냐？하리니 Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the Lord done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
25 그때에 사람들이 말하기를, 그것은 그들이 주 그들의 조상들의 하나님께서 그들을 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나오실 때에 그들과 맺으신 그분의 언약을 버리고 Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
26 가서 자기들이 알지도 못하고 그분께서 그들에게 주지도 아니한 다른 신들을 섬기고 그들에게 경배한 까닭이라. For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:
27 주의 분노가 이 땅을 향해 타올라 이 책에 기록된 모든 저주를 그 위에 내리고 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
28 또 주께서 분노와 진노와 큰 격노 중에 그들을 그들의 땅에서 뽑아내사 다른 땅에 던져 버리심이 이 날과 같다, 하리라. And the Lord rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.
29 은밀한 일들은 주 우리 하나님께 속하거니와 계시된 그 일들은 영원토록 우리와 우리 자손들에게 속하나니 이것은 우리가 이 율법의 모든 말씀을 행하게 하려 하심이니라. The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
