1 이스라엘 자손이 또 주의 눈앞에서 악을 행하므로 주께서 칠 년 동안 그들을 미디안의 손에 넘겨주시니 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
2 미디안의 손이 이스라엘을 이기니라. 이스라엘 자손이 미디안 족속으로 인하여 산에 자기들을 위해 구멍과 굴과 강한 요새를 만들었더라. And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
3 이스라엘이 씨를 뿌린 뒤에는 미디안 족속이 올라오고 또 아말렉 족속과 동쪽의 자손들이 그들을 치러 올라와서 And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;
4 그들을 향해 진을 치고 네가 가자에 이를 때에 보는 땅의 소출을 멸하여 이스라엘을 위해 양식을 남기지 아니하며 양이나 소나 나귀도 남기지 아니하였으니 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.
5 이는 그들이 자기들의 가축과 장막을 가지고 올라오되 메뚜기같이 많이 왔기 때문이요, 그들과 그들의 낙타들이 수도 없이 많았기 때문이더라. 그들이 그 땅에 들어와 그 땅을 멸하려 하였으므로 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
6 이스라엘이 미디안 족속으로 인하여 심히 핍절하게 되니라. 이스라엘 자손이 주께 부르짖었더라. And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Lord.
7 ¶이스라엘 자손이 미디안 족속으로 인하여 주께 부르짖으므로 And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Lord because of the Midianites,
8 주께서 이스라엘 자손에게 한 대언자를 보내시니 그가 그들에게 이르되, 주 이스라엘의 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 내가 너희를 이집트에서 데리고 올라오고 너희를 속박의 집에서 데리고 나와 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;
9 이집트 사람들의 손과 너희를 학대하던 모든 자들의 손에서 너희를 건져 내고 그들을 너희 앞에서 쫓아내며 그들의 땅을 너희에게 주었고 And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;
10 내가 또 너희에게 말하기를, 나는 주 너희 하나님이니 너희가 거하는 땅 곧 아모리 족속의 땅의 신들을 두려워하지 말라, 하였으나 너희가 내 목소리에 순종하지 아니하였느니라, 하니라. And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
11 ¶주의 천사가 아비에셀 사람 요아스에게 속한, 오브라에 있는 상수리나무 밑에 앉았는데 그의 아들 기드온이 미디안 족속에게 숨기기 위하여 포도즙 틀 곁에서 밀을 타작하더라. And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi–ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
12 주의 천사가 그에게 나타나 그에게 이르되, 너 강한 용사여, 주께서 너와 함께 계시는도다, 하매 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13 기드온이 그에게 이르되, 오 내 주여, 주께서 우리와 함께 계시면 어찌하여 이 모든 일이 우리에게 닥쳤나이까? 또 우리 조상들이 우리에게 말해 준 그분의 모든 기적들은 어디 있나이까? 그들이 말하기를, 주께서 우리를 이집트에서 데리고 올라오지 아니하셨느냐? 하였나이다. 그러나 이제 주께서 우리를 버리사 미디안 족속의 손에 넘겨주셨나이다, 하거늘 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14 주께서 그를 바라보시며 이르시되, 너는 너의 이 힘을 의지하고 가서 이스라엘을 미디안 족속의 손에서 구원할지니라. 내가 너를 보내지 아니하였느냐? 하시니 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
15 그가 그분께 이르되, 오 내 주여, 내가 무엇으로 이스라엘을 구원하리이까? 보소서, 내 가족은 므낫세 안에서 가난하며 또 나는 내 아버지 집에서 가장 작은 자니이다, 하매 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
16 주께서 그에게 이르시되, 내가 반드시 너와 함께하리니 네가 한 사람을 치듯 미디안 족속을 치리라, 하시거늘 And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
17 그가 그분께 이르되, 이제 내가 주의 눈앞에서 은혜를 얻었사오면 주께서 나와 말씀하심을 보여 주는 표적을 내게 보이소서. And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.
18 원하건대 내가 내 예물을 가지고 주께로 와서 그것을 주 앞에 드릴 때까지 이곳에서 떠나지 마소서, 하니 그가 이르되, 네가 돌아올 때까지 내가 기다리리라, 하니라. Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.
19 ¶기드온이 안으로 가서 염소 새끼 한 마리를 예비하고 밀가루 일 에바로 누룩 없는 납작한 빵을 만든 뒤 고기는 바구니에 담고 국은 냄비에 담아 상수리나무 밑에 있던 그분께로 가져다가 드리매 And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
20 하나님의 천사가 그에게 이르되, 고기와 누룩 없는 납작한 빵을 가져다가 이 바위 위에 놓고 국을 쏟으라, 하시므로 그가 그대로 하니라. And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
21 ¶그때에 주의 천사가 자기 손에 든 지팡이 끝을 내밀어 고기와 누룩 없는 납작한 빵에 대매 그 바위에서 불이 나와 고기와 누룩 없는 납작한 빵을 살랐고 그때에 주의 천사는 그에게서 떠나 보이지 아니하니 Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.
22 기드온이 그가 주의 천사임을 깨닫고는 이르되, 슬프나이다. 오 주 하나님이여! 내가 얼굴을 마주 대하여 주의 천사를 보았나이다, 하매 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord God! for because I have seen an angel of the Lord face to face.
23 주께서 그에게 이르시되, 네게 평강이 있을지어다. 두려워하지 말라. 네가 죽지 아니하리라, 하시니라. And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
24 이에 기드온이 주를 위해 거기서 제단을 쌓고 그것을 여호와샬롬이라 부르니 그 제단이 이 날까지 여전히 아비에셀 사람들에게 속한 오브라에 있느니라. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovah–shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi–ezrites.
25 ¶바로 그 밤에 주께서 그에게 이르시되, 네 아버지의 어린 수소 곧 칠 년 된 둘째 수소를 취하고 네 아버지에게 있는 바알의 제단을 헐며 제단 옆의 작은 숲을 베어 내고 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
26 또 이 바위의 꼭대기에, 정돈된 곳에 주 네 하나님을 위해 한 제단을 쌓고 그 둘째 수소를 취하여 네가 베어 낼 작은 숲의 나무로 태우는 희생물을 드릴지니라, 하시니 And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
27 이에 기드온이 자기 종들 중의 열 사람을 데리고 가서 주께서 자기에게 말씀하신 대로 행하되 자기 아버지 집안과 그 도시 사람들을 두려워하였으므로 감히 그 일을 낮에 행하지 못하고 밤에 행하니라. Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the Lord had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
28 ¶그 도시 사람들이 아침에 일찍 일어났는데, 보라, 바알의 제단은 쓰러졌고 제단 옆의 작은 숲은 베어졌으며 새로 쌓은 제단 위에 누군가가 둘째 수소를 드렸으므로 And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.
29 그들이 서로 이르되, 이 일을 누가 행하였느냐? 하고는 그들이 캐어묻고 또 물은 뒤에 이르되, 요아스의 아들 기드온이 이 일을 행하였도다, 하고 And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
30 그때에 그 도시 사람들이 요아스에게 이르되, 네 아들을 끌어내라. 그가 바알의 제단을 쓰러뜨리고 또 제단 옆의 작은 숲을 베었은즉 죽어야 하리라, 하매 Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
31 요아스가 자기를 마주보며 선 모든 자에게 이르되, 너희가 바알을 위해 변론하려느냐? 너희가 그를 구원하려느냐? 그를 위해 변론하려는 자는 이 아침에 죽임을 당하리라. 그가 신일진대 어떤 자가 자기 제단을 쓰러뜨렸은즉 자기를 위해 변론할 것이라, 하니라. And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
32 그러므로 그 날에 그가 기드온을 여룹바알이라 부르며 이르기를, 그가 바알의 제단을 쓰러뜨렸은즉 바알이 그를 대적하여 변론할 것이라, 하였더라. Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
33 ¶그때에 모든 미디안 족속과 아말렉 족속과 동쪽의 자손들이 함께 모이고 건너와서 예스르엘 골짜기에 진을 쳤더라. Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.
34 그러나 주의 영께서 기드온에게 임하시니 그가 나팔을 불매 아비에셀이 모여서 그를 따르고 But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abi–ezer was gathered after him.
35 그가 또 사자들을 온 므낫세에 두루 보내니 그들도 모여서 그를 따르며 또 그가 사자들을 아셀과 스불론과 납달리에게 보내매 그들도 올라와서 그들을 맞이하더라. And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
36 ¶기드온이 하나님께 아뢰되, 주께서 이미 말씀하신 것 같이 내 손으로 이스라엘을 구원하려 하시거든 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
37 보소서, 내가 양털 한 뭉치를 타작마당에 두리니 이슬이 양털에만 있고 그 옆의 온 땅은 마르면 주께서 이미 말씀하신 것 같이 주께서 내 손으로 이스라엘을 구원하실 줄 내가 알겠나이다, 한즉 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
38 그대로 되니라. 다음 날 기드온이 일찍 일어나 양털을 다 같이 눌러 양털에서 이슬을 짜매 물이 대접에 가득하였더라. And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
39 기드온이 또 하나님께 아뢰되, 주께서는 내게 맹렬히 분노하지 마옵소서. 내가 이번 한 번만 말하리이다. 원하건대 내가 이번 한 번만 양털로 시험하게 하소서. 이제는 양털만 마르고 온 땅에는 이슬이 있게 하옵소서, 한즉 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
40 그 밤에 하나님께서 그대로 행하시니 오직 양털만 마르고 온 땅에는 이슬이 있었더라. And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
