Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Cesarea to Jerusalem.
Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
| And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.
But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.
| Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
베스도가 그들 가운데서 열흘 이상 머무르고 가이사랴로 내려가 이튿날 재판석에 앉아 바울을 데려오라고 명령하니 | And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Cesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
| And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
그가 자기를 위해 답변하여 이르되, 내가 유대인들의 율법이나 성전이나 카이사르에 대해 결코 어떤 잘못도 저지르지 아니하였노라, 하나 | While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cesar, have I offended any thing at all.
하매 | But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
| Then said Paul, I stand at Cesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
내가 카이사르에게 청원하나이다, 하니 | For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Cesar.
| Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Cesar? unto Cesar shalt thou go.
| And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Cesarea to salute Festus.
그들이 여러 날 거기 있은 뒤에 베스도가 바울의 사건을 왕에게 밝히 알리며 이르되, 벨릭스가 어떤 사람을 결박해서 남겨 두었는데 | And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.
| To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
그러므로 그들이 여기 왔을 때에 내가 지체하지 아니하고 이튿날 재판석에 앉아 명령하여 그 사람을 데려오게 하였으나 | Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
| But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
내가 이 같은 종류의 문제들에 의문을 품었으므로 그가 예루살렘에 가서 거기서 이 일들에 대하여 재판을 받고자 하는지 그에게 물었으나 | And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
바울이 청원하여 아우구스투스의 청문회 때까지 미루어 달라고 하므로 내가 그를 카이사르에게 보낼 때까지 그를 지키라고 명령하였나이다, 하니 | But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Cesar.
| Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
이튿날 아그립바와 버니게가 크고 화려한 행렬을 거느리고 와서 총대장들과 도시의 주요 인사들과 함께 청문회장으로 들어오고 베스도의 명령으로 바울이 끌려나오니 | And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus’ commandment Paul was brought forth.
| And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
| But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
그에 관하여 내 주께 쓸 어떤 확실한 사실이 없으므로 내가 심문을 해서 무엇인가 쓸 것을 얻으려고 당신들 앞에, 특히 오 아그립바 왕이여, 당신 앞에 그를 데려왔나니 | Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
| For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.
