1 이 일들 뒤에 바울이 아테네를 떠나 고린도에 이르러 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 본도에서 태어난 아굴라라 하는 어떤 유대인을 만났는데 (클라우디우스가 모든 유대인에게 명령하여 로마를 떠나게 하였으므로) 그가 자기 아내 브리스길라와 함께 최근에 이탈리아에서 왔더라. 그가 그들에게로 가서 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
3 생업이 같으므로 그들과 함께 머물며 일하니라. 그들은 그들의 직업으로 보면 천막을 만드는 사람들이더라. And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
4 그가 안식일마다 회당에서 토론하며 유대인들과 그리스인들을 설득하니라. And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5 실라와 디모데가 마케도니아에서 왔을 때에 바울이 영 안에서 눌려 유대인들에게 예수님께서 그리스도이심을 증언하매 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
6 그들이 스스로 반대하고 신성모독하므로 그가 옷을 털며 그들에게 이르되, 너희 피가 너희 머리로 돌아갈 것이요, 나는 깨끗하니 이제부터는 내가 이방인들에게로 가리라, 하니라. And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
7 ¶그가 거기를 떠나 하나님께 경배하던 유스도라 하는 어떤 사람의 집으로 들어갔는데 그의 집은 회당에 바싹 붙어 있더라. And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
8 회당의 우두머리 치리자 그리스보가 자기의 온 집과 함께 주를 믿었으며 고린도 사람들 중의 많은 이들도 듣고 믿어 침례를 받더라. And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
9 그때에 주께서 밤에 환상으로 바울에게 말씀하시되, 두려워하지 말며 잠잠하지 말고 말하라. Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 내가 너와 함께 있으매 아무도 너를 공격하여 해치지 못하리니 내게는 이 도시에 많은 백성이 있느니라, 하시더라. For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
11 그가 거기서 일 년 육 개월을 머물며 그들 가운데서 하나님의 말씀을 가르치니라. And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12 ¶갈리오가 아가야의 총독이 되었을 때에 유대인들이 한마음이 되어 바울을 대적하여 폭동을 일으키고 그를 재판석으로 데리고 가서 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
13 이르되, 이자가 율법을 어기면서 사람들을 설득하여 하나님께 경배하게 한다, 하거늘 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
14 이제 바울이 입을 열고자 할 때에 갈리오가 유대인들에게 이르되, 오 너희 유대인들아, 만일 그것이 부당한 일이나 사악하고 음탕한 짓에 대한 문제라면 내가 참고 너희 말을 들어야 할 이유가 있으려니와 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
15 만일 그것이 말과 명칭과 너희 율법에 관한 문제라면 너희가 알아서 하라. 나는 그런 일에 재판관이 되기를 원치 아니하노라, 하고 But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
16 그들을 재판석에서 쫓아내니라. And he drave them from the judgment seat.
17 이에 모든 그리스 사람들이 회당의 우두머리 치리자 소스데네를 붙잡아 재판석 앞에서 때리되 갈리오는 그 일들에 조금도 상관하지 아니하니라. Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
18 ¶이 일 뒤에도 바울은 거기서 꽤 오래 머물다가 형제들과 작별하고 거기서 항해하여 시리아로 들어갔는데 브리스길라와 아굴라가 그와 함께하니라. 바울이 전에 서원한 것이 있었으므로 겐그레아에서 머리를 깎았더라. And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
19 그가 에베소에 와서 그들을 거기 남겨 두었으나 자기는 회당에 들어가 유대인들과 변론하더라. And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20 그들이 그에게 자기들과 함께 더 오래 머물 것을 청하되 그가 동의하지 아니하고 When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
21 그들에게 작별을 고하며 이르되, 내가 어찌하든지 다가오는 이 명절은 반드시 예루살렘에서 지켜야 하리라. 그러나 만일 하나님께서 원하시면 내가 다시 너희에게 돌아오리라, 하고 배를 타고 에베소를 떠나 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22 가이사랴에서 내린 뒤 올라가 교회에 문안하고 안디옥으로 내려가 And when he had landed at Cesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
23 거기서 얼마를 지낸 뒤에 떠나서 갈라디아와 브루기아의 온 지방을 차례대로 다니며 모든 제자들을 강하게 하니라. And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24 ¶알렉산드리아에서 태어난 아볼로라 하는 어떤 유대인이 에베소에 이르렀는데 그는 말을 잘하고 성경 기록들에 능통하더라. And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 이 사람이 전에 주의 길 안에서 가르침을 받아 영이 뜨거우므로 주에 관한 것들을 부지런히 말하고 가르치나 요한의 침례만 알더라. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
26 그가 회당에서 담대히 말하기 시작하거늘 아굴라와 브리스길라가 그의 말을 듣고 그를 데리고 와서 그에게 하나님의 길을 더욱 완전하게 설명해 주니라. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
27 그가 아가야로 건너가려는 마음을 먹으므로 형제들이 편지를 써서 제자들에게 권면하여 그를 받아들이게 하니라. 그가 가서 은혜를 통하여 믿게 된 사람들에게 많은 도움을 주었으니 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
28 이는 그가 성경 기록들을 가지고 예수님께서 그리스도이심을 보여 주며 힘 있게 유대인들을 확신시키되 공개적으로 그리하였기 때문이더라. For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
