1 사랑하는 자들아, 내가 이제 둘째 서신을 너희에게 쓰노니 내가 이 두 서신 안에서 기억을 통해 너희의 순수한 생각을 일깨우고자 함은 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 너희가 전에 거룩한 대언자들이 전한 말씀들과 주 곧 구원자의 사도인 우리에게서 받은 명령을 명심하게 하려 함이라. That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 먼저 이것을 알라. 곧 마지막 날들에 비웃는 자들이 와서 자기들의 정욕을 따라 걸으며 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 이르되, 그분께서 오신다는 약속이 어디 있느냐? 조상들이 잠든 이래로 모든 것이 창조의 시작 이후부터 있었던 것 같이 그대로 계속되느니라, 하리니 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 그들은 이 사실 즉 하나님의 말씀으로 말미암아 하늘들이 옛적부터 있었고 또 땅이 물에서 나와 물 가운데 서 있는 것을 일부러 알려 하지 아니하느니라. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 그것으로 말미암아 그때 있던 세상은 물의 넘침으로 멸망하였으되 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 지금 있는 하늘들과 땅은 주께서 같은 말씀으로 보관하여 간직하사 경건치 아니한 사람들의 심판과 멸망의 날에 불사르기 위해 예비해 두셨느니라. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 그러나 사랑하는 자들아, 주께는 하루가 천 년 같고 천 년이 하루 같다는 이 한 가지 사실에 대하여 무지한 자가 되지 말라. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 주께서는 자신의 약속에 대해 어떤 사람들이 더디다고 생각하는 것 같이 더디지 아니하시며 오직 우리를 향하여 오래 참으사 아무도 멸망하지 아니하고 모두 회개에 이르기를 원하시느니라. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 그러나 주의 날이 밤의 도둑같이 오리니 그 날에는 하늘들이 큰 소리와 함께 사라지고 원소들이 뜨거운 열에 녹으며 땅과 그 안에 있는 일들도 불태워지리라. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 그런즉 이 모든 것이 해체될진대 너희가 어떤 사람이 되어야 마땅하겠느냐? 모든 거룩한 행실 속에서 하나님을 따르는 가운데 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 하나님의 날이 오는 것을 기다리고 서두르라. 그 날에 하늘들이 불이 붙어 해체되고 원소들도 뜨거운 열로 녹으려니와 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 그분의 약속에 따라 의가 거하는 새 하늘들과 새 땅을 기다리는도다. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 그러므로 사랑하는 자들아, 너희가 그러한 것들을 기다리나니 너희가 점도 없고 흠도 없이 화평 중에 그분께 발견되기를 힘쓰라. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 또 우리 주의 오래 참으심이 구원인 줄로 여기라. 심지어 우리가 사랑하는 형제 바울도 자기가 받은 지혜대로 너희에게 이같이 썼고 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 또 그의 모든 서신에서도 이것들에 관해 그 안에서 말하였으되 그 안에 깨닫기 어려운 것이 더러 있으므로 배우지 못하여 불안정한 자들이 다른 성경 기록들과 같이 그것들도 왜곡하다가 스스로 파멸에 이르느니라. As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 그러므로 사랑하는 자들아, 너희가 이것들을 미리 알았은즉 그 사악한 자들의 오류에 이끌려 너희도 너희 자신의 굳건함에서 떨어지지 아니하도록 주의하라. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 오직 은혜 안에서 자라고 우리 주 곧 구원자 예수 그리스도를 아는 것에서 자라라. 그분께 영광이 이제와 영원토록 있기를 원하노라. 아멘. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
