1 그러면 유대인의 나은 점이 무엇이냐? 혹은 할례의 유익이 무엇이냐? What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
2 모든 면에서 많으니 주된 이유는 그들에게 하나님의 말씀들이 맡겨졌다는 것이라. Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
3 그런데 어떤 자들이 믿지 아니하였으면 어찌하리요? 그들의 믿지 아니함이 하나님에 대한 믿음을 무효로 만들겠느냐? For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
4 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 참으로 하나님은 진실하시되 사람은 다 거짓말쟁이라 할지어다. 이것은 기록된바, 이로써 주께서 주의 말씀하신 것에서 의롭게 되시고 판단 받으실 때에 이기시리이다, 함과 같으니라. God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
5 그러나 우리의 불의가 하나님의 의를 드러내면 우리가 무슨 말을 하리요? (내가 사람으로서 말하노니) 보복하시는 하나님께서 불의하시냐? But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
6 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 그러면 하나님께서 어찌 세상을 심판하시리요? God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?
7 만일 내 거짓말을 통해 하나님의 진리가 더욱 풍성하게 되어 그분이 영광을 얻게 되었다면 어찌하여 내가 여전히 또한 죄인으로 심판을 받느냐? For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
8 차라리 (우리가 중상모략을 당하듯이 또 어떤 자들이 우리가 이런 말을 한다고 주장하듯이), 선을 이루기 위해 우리가 악을 행하자, 하지 아니하겠느냐? 그들이 정죄 받는 것이 옳으니라. And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
9 그러면 어떠하냐? 우리는 그들보다 나으냐? 결코 아니라. 우리는 앞에서 유대인들과 이방인들을 검증하여 그들이 다 죄 아래 있음을 입증하였느니라. What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 이것은 기록된바, 의로운 자는 없나니 단 한 사람도 없으며 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 깨닫는 자도 없고 하나님을 찾는 자도 없으며 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 그들이 다 길에서 벗어나 함께 무익하게 되고 선을 행하는 자가 없나니 단 한 사람도 없도다. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 그들의 목구멍은 열린 돌무덤이라. 그들이 자기 혀로 속임수를 쓰나니 그들의 입술 밑에는 독사의 독이 있고 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 그들의 입은 저주와 쓴 것으로 가득하며 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 그들의 발은 피 흘리는 데 빠르므로 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 파멸과 고통이 그들의 길에 있어 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 그들이 화평의 길을 알지 못하였고 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 그들의 눈앞에는 하나님을 두려워함이 없느니라, 함과 같으니라. There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 이제 우리가 알거니와 율법이 어떤 것들을 말하든지 그것은 율법 아래 있는 자들에게 말하나니 이것은 모든 입을 막아 온 세상이 하나님 앞에서 유죄가 되게 하려 함이니라. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 그러므로 율법의 행위로는 어떤 육체도 그분의 눈앞에서 의롭게 될 수 없나니 율법으로는 죄를 알게 되느니라. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 그러나 이제는 율법 밖에 있는 하나님의 의 곧 율법과 대언자들이 증언한 의가 드러났느니라. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 그것은 곧 예수 그리스도의 믿음으로 말미암아 모든 자에게 미치고 믿는 모든 자 위에 임하는 하나님의 의니 거기에는 차별이 없느니라. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 모든 사람이 죄를 지어 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하더니 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 그리스도 예수님 안에 있는 구속(救贖)을 통해 하나님의 은혜로 값없이 의롭게 되었느니라. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 그분을 하나님께서 그분의 피를 믿는 믿음을 통한 화해 헌물로 제시하셨으니 이것은 하나님께서 참으심을 통해 과거의 죄들을 사면하심으로써 자신의 의를 밝히 드러내려 하심이요, Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 내가 말하거니와 이때에 자신의 의를 밝히 드러내사 자신이 의롭게 되며 또 예수님을 믿는 자를 의롭게 만드는 이가 되려 하심이라. To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 그런즉 자랑할 것이 어디 있느냐? 있을 수 없느니라. 무슨 법으로냐? 행위의 법으로냐? 아니라, 오직 믿음의 법으로니라. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 그러므로 우리가 결론을 내리노니 사람은 율법의 행위와 상관없이 믿음으로 의롭게 되느니라. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 그분은 오직 유대인들의 하나님이시냐? 그분은 또한 이방인들의 하나님이 아니시냐? 참으로 또한 이방인들의 하나님이시니 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 할례자를 믿음으로 말미암아 또 무할례자를 믿음을 통해 의롭게 하실 분은 한 하나님이시니라. Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 그런즉 우리가 믿음을 통해 율법을 헛되게 만드느냐? 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 참으로 우리가 율법을 굳게 세우느니라. Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
