1	아브라함이 막벨라의 무덤을 사다 사라는 백이십칠 년을 살고	And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2	키럇아르바라고도 하는 헤브론 땅에서 죽었다. 아브라함은 빈소에 들어가 가슴을 치며 슬피 울었다.	And Sarah died in Kirjath–arba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3	아브라함은 시신 앞에서 물러나 헷 사람들에게 가서 청하였다.	And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
4	"나는 당신들한테 몸붙여 사는 나그네에 지나지 않으나, 내 아내를 안장하게 무덤으로 쓸 땅을 좀 나누어주십시오."	I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
5	헷 사람들은 아브라함의 청을 받아들이며 이렇게 대답하였다.	And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
6	"영감님, 들으십시오. 영감님은 우리 가운데서 세력 있는 귀인입니다. 그러니 우리 묘지 가운데서 가장 좋은 곳을 골라 부인을 모시십시오. 영감님이 부인의 묘지로 쓰시겠다는데 거절할 사람이 어디 있겠습니까?"	Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
7	아브라함은 일어나 그 땅에 사는 헷 사람들에게 절하며	And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8	말하였다. "내 아내를 안장하도록 허락해 주시니 하나 더 청을 올리겠습니다. 소할의 아들 에브론에게 말해	And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9	그의 밭머리에 있는 막벨라 동굴을 나에게 양도하도록 해주십시오. 값은 드릴 만큼 다 드릴 터이니 당신들 앞에서 그것을 내 묘지로 삼게 해주십시오."	That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
10	마침 에브론은 헷 사람들과 함께 앉아 있었다. 헷 사람 에브론은 성문께에 나와 있는 헷 사람들이 듣는 데서 아브라함에게 대답하였다.	And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11	"영감님, 내 말을 들으십시오. 그 밭을 영감님에게 그냥 드립니다. 그 밭에 딸린 동굴도 함께 드립니다. 내 겨레가 보는 데서 드리는 것이니 어서 부인을 안장하십시오."	Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
12	아브라함은 그 곳 백성들에게 절하고	And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13	그 곳 백성들이 듣는 데서 에브론에게 말하였다. "그러시다면, 내 말도 들어주십시오. 땅값을 드릴 터이니 받아주십시오. 그래야 내 아내를 거기에 안장할 수 있겠습니다."	And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14	에브론이 아브라함에게 대답하였다.	And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
15	"영감님, 들으십시오. 땅값으로 말하면 은 사백 세겔이 되지만, 그것이 당신과 나 사이에 무슨 문제가 됩니까? 어서 부인을 안장하십시오."	My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16	아브라함은 에브론의 말을 받아들여 그가 다른 헷 사람들이 듣는 데서 말한 은 사백 세겔을, 당시 상인들 사이에 통용되던 무게로 달아 치렀다.	And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17	이리하여 마므레 동쪽 막벨라에 있는 에브론의 밭은 거기에 딸린 동굴과 사방 언저리에 있는 모든 나무와 함께	And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18	성문에 모인 헷 사람들이 지켜보는 앞에서 아브라함의 땅이 되었다.	Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19	그제야 아브라함은 아내 사라를 막벨라에 있는 밭에 딸린 동굴에 안장하였다. 그 밭은 가나안 땅으로 마므레라고도 하는 헤브론 동쪽에 있었다.	And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20	그 밭과 거기에 딸린 동굴은 헷 사람에게서 아브라함에게로 넘어와 그의 묘지가 되었다.	And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
