1	야훼 마므레에 나타나시다 야훼께서는 마므레의 상수리나무 곁에서 아브라함에게 나타나셨다. 아브라함은 한창 더운 대낮에 천막 문 어귀에 앉아 있다가	And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2	고개를 들어 웬 사람 셋이 자기를 향해 서 있는 것을 보았다. 그는 그들을 보자마자 천막 문에서 뛰어나가 맞으며 땅에 엎드려	And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3	청을 드렸다. "손님네들, 괜찮으시다면 소인 곁을 그냥 지나쳐 가지 마십시오.	And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4	물을 길어올 터이니 발을 씻으시고 나무 밑에서 좀 쉬십시오.	Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5	떡도 가져올 터이니 잡수시고 피곤을 푸신 뒤에 길을 떠나십시오. 모처럼 소인한테 오셨는데, 어찌 그냥 가시겠습니까?" 그들이 대답하였다. "아! 그렇게 하여주시겠소?"	And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6	아브라함은 급히 천막으로 들어가 사라에게 고운 밀가루 서 말을 내다가 반죽하여 떡을 만들라고 이르고	And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7	소떼가 있는 곳으로 달려가 살이 연하고 맛있어 보이는 송아지 한 마리를 끌어다가 종에게 맡겨 빨리 잡아서 요리하게 하고는	And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8	그 송아지 요리에다가 엉긴 젖과 우유를 곁들여서 손님들 앞에 차려놓고, 손님들이 나무 밑에서 먹는 동안 그 곁에 서서 시중을 들었다.	And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
9	그들이 아브라함에게 "부인 사라는 어디 계시오?" 하고 묻자, 아브라함은 사라가 천막에 있다고 대답하였다.	And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10	그러자 하느님께서 말씀하셨다. "내년 봄 새싹이 돋아날 무렵, 내가 틀림없이 너를 찾아오리라. 그 때 네 아내 사라는 이미 아들을 낳았을 것이다." 사라는 아브라함이 등지고 서 있는 천막 문 어귀에서 이 말을 엿듣고 있었다.	And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11	아브라함과 사라는 이미 나이 많은 늙은이였고 사라는 달거리가 끊긴 지도 오래였다.	Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12	그래서 사라는 속으로 웃으며 "내가 이렇게 늙었고 내 남편도 다 늙었는데, 이제 무슨 낙을 다시 보랴!" 하고 중얼거렸다.	Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13	그러자 야훼께서 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. "사라가, 다 늙은 몸으로 어떻게 아기를 낳으랴 하며 웃으니, 될 말이냐?	And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14	이 야훼가 무슨 일인들 못 하겠느냐? 내년 봄 새싹이 돋아날 무렵에 내가 다시 찾아오리라. 그 때 사라는 이미 아들을 낳았을 것이다."	Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15	그러자 사라는 겁이 나서 웃지 않았다고 잡아뗐으나, 야훼께서는 "아니다. 너는 분명히 웃었다." 하시며 꾸짖으셨다.	Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
16	아브라함이 소돔과 고모라 때문에 빌다 사람들은 길을 떠나 소돔이 내려다보이는 곳에 이르렀다. 아브라함도 그들을 배웅하느라고 같이 왔다.	And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
17	야훼께서는 속으로 이런 생각을 하셨다. '내가 장차 하려는 일을 어찌 아브라함에게 숨기랴?	And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18	아브라함은 강대한 민족이 되고 세상 민족들은 아브라함의 이름을 부르며 서로 복을 빌 것이 아닌가?	Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19	나는 그로 하여금 그의 자손과 그의 뒤를 이을 가문에게 옳고 바른 일을 지시하여 이 야훼의 가르침을 지키게 하려고 그를 뽑아 세우지 않았던가? 그러니, 나는 아브라함에게 약속한 것을 그대로 이루어주어야 하리라.'	For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
20	이렇게 생각하시고 야훼께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. "소돔과 고모라에서 들려오는 저 아우성을 나는 차마 들을 수가 없다. 너무나 엄청난 죄를 짓고들 있다.	And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
21	내려가서 그 하는 짓들이 모두 나에게 들려오는 저 아우성과 정말 같은 것인지 알아보아야 하겠다."	I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
22	그 사람들은 걸음을 옮겨 소돔 쪽으로 갔다. 그러나 아브라함은 그냥 야훼 앞에 서 있었다.	And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.
23	아브라함이 다가서서 물었다. "당신께서는 죄없는 사람을 죄인과 함께 기어이 쓸어버리시렵니까?	And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24	저 도시 안에 죄없는 사람이 오십 명이 있다면 그래도 그 곳을 쓸어버리시렵니까? 죄없는 사람 오십 명을 보시고 용서해 주시지 않으시렵니까?	Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
25	죄없는 사람을 어찌 죄인과 똑같이 보시고 함께 죽이시려고 하십니까? 온 세상을 다스리시는 이라면 공정하셔야 할 줄 압니다."	That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26	야훼께서 대답하셨다. "소돔 성에 죄없는 사람이 오십 명만 있으면, 그 죄없는 사람을 보아서라도 다 용서해 줄 수 있다."	And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27	그러자 아브라함이 다시 말했다. "티끌이나 재만도 못한 주제에 감히 아룁니다.	And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28	죄없는 사람 오십 명에서 다섯이 모자란다면 그 다섯 때문에 온 성을 멸하시겠습니까?" 야훼께서 대답하셨다. "저 곳에 죄없는 사람이 사십오 명만 있어도 멸하지 않겠다."	Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29	아브라함이 "사십 명밖에 없다면 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 하고 여쭙자 야훼께서 대답하셨다. "사십 명을 보아서라도 멸하지 않겠다."	And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
30	아브라함이 또 여쭈었다. "주여, 노여워하지 마십시오. 다시 말씀 드리겠습니다. 삼십 명밖에 안 된다면 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 야훼께서 "삼십 명만 되어도 멸하지 않겠다." 하고 대답하시자	And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31	그가 또다시 여쭈었다. "죄송하오나, 다시 말씀 드리겠습니다. 만일 이십 명밖에 안 된다면 어떻게 하시겠습니까?" 야훼께서 "이십 명만 되어도 그들을 보아서 멸하지 않겠다." 하고 대답하셨다.	And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.
32	아브라함이 다시 "주여, 노여워 마십시오. 한 번만 더 말씀드리겠습니다. 만일 열 사람밖에 안 되어도 되겠습니까?" 야훼께서 대답하셨다. "그 열 사람을 보아서라도 멸하지 않겠다."	And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
33	야훼께서는 아브라함과 말씀을 마치시고 자리를 뜨셨다. 아브라함도 자기 고장으로 되돌아갔다.	And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
