절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	요나가 니느웨로 가다 야훼의 말씀이 또다시 요나에게 내렸다.	And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2	"어서 저 큰 도시 니느웨로 가 내가 일러준 말을 그대로 전하여라."	Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
3	요나는 야훼의 말씀대로 곧 길을 떠나 니느웨로 갔다. 니느웨는 굉장히 큰 도시로서 돌아다니는 데 사흘이나 걸리는 곳이었다.	So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4	요나는 니느웨에 들어가 하루 동안 돌아다니며, "사십 일이 지나면 니느웨는 잿더미가 된다."고 외쳤다.	And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5	이 말에 니느웨 사람들은 하느님을 믿고 단식을 선포하였다. 높은 사람 낮은 사람 할 것 없이 모두 굵은 베 옷을 입고 단식하게 되었다.	So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6	이 소문을 듣고 니느웨 임금도 용상에서 일어나 어의를 굵은 베 옷으로 갈아입고 잿더미 위에 앉아 단식하였다.	For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7	그리고 대신들의 뜻을 모아 니느웨 시민들에게 아래와 같이 선포하였다. "사람이나 짐승, 소떼나 양떼 할 것 없이 무엇이든지 맛을 보아서는 안 된다. 먹지도 마시지도 마라.	And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8	사람뿐 아니라 짐승에게까지 굵은 베 옷을 입혀라. 그리고 하느님께 간절한 마음으로 부르짖어라. 권력을 잡았다고 해서 남을 못 살게 굴던 나쁜 행실은 모두 버려라.	But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9	하느님께서 노여움을 푸시고 우리를 멸하시려던 뜻을 돌이키실지 아느냐?"	Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10	이렇게 사람들이 못된 행실을 버리고 돌아서는 것을 보시고 하느님께서는 뜻을 돌이켜 그들에게 내리시려던 재앙을 거두시었다.	And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
