절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	요아스 요아스는 일곱 살에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 사십 년간 다스렸다. 그의 어머니는 브엘세바 태생으로 이름은 지비야라고 하였다.	Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beer–sheba.
2	요아스는 사제 여호야다의 생전에는 바른 정치를 펴서 야훼의 눈에 들었다.	And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3	요아스는 사제 여호야다가 간택해 올린 두 아내에게서 아들딸을 낳았다.	And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
4	얼마 뒤에 요아스는 야훼의 성전을 보수할 마음이 생겨서	And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the Lord.
5	사제들과 레위인들을 모아놓고 지시하였다. "유다 성읍들에 흩어져 가서 돈을 모아다가 야훼의 성전을 매년 보수하여라. 지체하지 말고 수행하여라." 그러나 레위인들은 서두르지 않았다.	And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.
6	그래서 왕은 그들의 우두머리인 여호야다를 불러들여 추궁하였다. "어찌하여 그대는 레위인들을 독촉하지 않소? 야훼의 종 모세께서 증거의 장막에 바치라고 이스라엘 회중에게 지시한 일이 있는 헌금을 유다와 예루살렘에서 거두어들이라고 했는데, 어찌하여 가만히들 있소?"	And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the Lord, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
7	사악한 여자인 아달리야가 제 아들들을 시켜 하느님의 성전을 부수고 들어가 야훼의 성전에 있는 거룩한 것을 모두 바알들에게 바쳐버렸던 것이다.	For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the Lord did they bestow upon Baalim.
8	왕은 명령을 내려 궤 하나를 야훼의 성전 문 밖에 놓게 하고	And at the king’s commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the Lord.
9	유다와 예루살렘에 선포하여, 광야에서 하느님의 종 모세가 이스라엘 백성에게 바치라고 한 헌금을 가져다 바치게 하였다.	And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the Lord the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
10	관리들과 백성은 모두 즐거운 마음으로 헌금을 가지고 와서 궤가 차도록 바쳤다.	And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
11	레위인들이 그 궤를 왕궁 사무실에 가져다가 돈이 가득 차 있는 것을 보이면, 왕의 비서와 대사제의 대리가 와서 궤를 비우고 그 궤를 제자리에 도로 갖다 두었다. 이렇게 날마다 계속하여 많은 돈을 모았다.	Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
12	왕과 여호야다는 그것을 야훼의 성전 공사 감독에게 넘겨 석수와 목수를 고용하여 야훼의 성전을 복원하고 쇠나 놋쇠를 다루는 대장장이도 고용하여 야훼의 성전을 보수하게 하였다.	And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the Lord, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the Lord, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the Lord.
13	감독들의 지시를 따라 성전 복원 공사는 진전되어 도본대로 하느님의 성전이 튼튼히 서게 되었다.	So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.
14	일이 끝난 뒤에 남은 돈을 왕과 여호야다에게 바치니, 그것으로 번제를 드리며 예배할 때에 쓰는 야훼의 성전 기구들, 그릇, 잔 등 금은 기구들을 만들었다. 여호야다가 죽을 때까지 야훼의 성전에서 번제를 드리는 일이 중단되지 않았다.	And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the Lord, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually all the days of Jehoiada.
15	여호야다는 백삼십 년 살고 나이 많아 죽었다.	But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
16	하느님을 섬기고 성전을 보살펴서 이스라엘에게 복될 일을 하였다고 해서 사람들은 그를 다윗 성 왕실 묘지에 모셨다.	And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
17	여호야다가 죽은 뒤에 유다 고관들이 왕 앞에 나와 엎드리니 그 때부터 왕은 그들의 말을 듣게 되었다.	Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
18	그들은 선조들의 하느님 야훼의 성전을 찾지 아니하고 아세라 목상과 돌 우상을 섬겼다. 이 죄 때문에 하느님의 진노가 유다와 예루살렘에 내리게 되었다.	And they left the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
19	야훼께서 그들을 당신께로 돌아오게 하시려고 예언자들을 보내시어 타이르셨지만, 사람들은 그 소리를 귀담아듣지 않았다.	Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the Lord; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
20	여호야다의 아들 사제 즈가리야가 하느님의 영에 사로잡혀 백성들 앞에 나서서 말하였다. "하느님께서 말씀하신다. '어찌하여 너희는 야훼의 계명을 어기느냐? 그리하여 만사를 그르치느냐? 너희가 야훼를 버렸으니, 야훼도 너희를 버리리라.'"	And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you.
21	그러자 사람들은 한 덩어리가 되어 왕명을 따라 그를 야훼의 성전 마당에서 돌로 쳐죽였다.	And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the Lord.
22	요아스 왕은 여호야다에게 입은 은덕을 저버리고 그의 아들을 죽였던 것이다. 즈가리야는 죽으면서 외쳤다. "야훼께서 굽어보시고 갚으시리라."	Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The Lord look upon it, and require it.
23	그 해가 바뀔 무렵에 시리아 군이 요아스를 치러왔다. 그들은 유다와 예루살렘에 이르러 군대 지휘관들을 다 죽이고 닥치는 대로 약탈하여 다마스쿠스에 있는 저희 왕에게 보내었다.	And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
24	침입군 병력은 많지 않았지만, 야훼께서는 이 백성이 자기네 선조의 하느님인 당신을 저버린 일을 못마땅하게 여기시어 그토록 많은 대군을 적군에게 맡기셨던 것이다.	For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the Lord delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
25	시리아 군은 요아스에게 심한 상처를 입히고 물러갔다. 그의 신하들은 그가 여호야다의 아들 즈가리야 사제를 죽인 일에 반감을 품고 반란을 일으켜 침상에 누워 있는 그를 죽였다. 그리고는 다윗 성 안에 안장하면서도 왕실 묘지를 쓰지는 않았다.	And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
26	그에게 반란을 일으킨 사람은 암몬 여인 시므앗의 아들 자밧과 모압 여인 시므릿의 아들 여호자밧이었다.	And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.
27	그의 아들들 이야기, 그를 쳐서 이르신 하느님의 많은 말씀, 하느님의 성전을 재건한 일들이 왕조 역사서에 기록되어 있다. 그의 아들 아마지야가 뒤를 이어 왕위에 올랐다.	Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
