절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	모르드개가 영광을 받다 그 날 밤, 왕은 잠이 오지 않아서 궁중실록을 가져다 읽게 하였다.	On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
2	그 기록을 읽어 내려가다가 대궐 수문장으로 있던 두 내시 빅단과 테레스가 자기를 암살하려고 기회를 노리고 있는 것을 모르드개가 고발했다는 대목에 이르러,	And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
3	왕은 그 모르드개라는 사람에게 무슨 상을 내려 공을 치하했느냐고 물었다. 왕을 모시는 시종들이 "아무것도 해준 것이 없습니다." 하고 대답하였다.	And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
4	왕은 "밖에 누가 없느냐?" 하고 불렀다. 때마침 하만이 궁전 바깥뜰에 들어섰다. 하만은 자기가 세워둔 기둥에 모르드개를 달려고 왕의 허락을 받으러 막 들어서던 참이었다.	And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
5	시종들이 밖에 하만이 대령하고 있다고 하자 왕은 어서 들게 하라고 하였다.	And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6	하만이 들어 서자 왕이 이렇게 물었다. "내가 상을 내리고 싶은 사람이 있는데, 무엇을 해주었으면 좋겠는가?" 하만은 '왕이 상을 내리고 싶은 사람이 있다면 나밖에 누가 있으랴.' 싶어,	So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
7	이렇게 진언하였다. "임금님께서 상을 내리고 싶으신 사람이 있으시거든,	And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
8	임금님께서 입으시는 의복과 타시는 말을 내어온 다음 그 머리에 관을 씌우시고,	Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
9	임금님께서 귀하게 여기시는 한 대신에게 그 왕복과 말을 맡기시어, 상을 내리시려는 그 사람에게 왕복을 입히시고 말을 태워 성내 광장을 돌게 하십시오. 그리고 그로 하여금 경마잡고 가면서 '왕께서 상을 내리시려는 사람에게는 이렇게 해주신다.'고 외치게 하십시오."	And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
10	왕이 하만에게 말했다. "그 말대로 곧 시행하여라. 그대는 내 옷과 말을 내어다가 문간에서 일보는 유다인 모르드개에게 이제 말한 것을 하나도 빠뜨리지 말고 그대로 해주도록 하여라."	Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
11	하만은 하릴없이 왕복을 가져다가 모르드개에게 입히고 말을 끌어내어 태운 다음 광장으로 데리고 나가 돌아야 했다. 하만은 경마잡고 가면서 "왕께서 상을 내리시려는 사람은 이같이 해주신다." 하고 외쳤다.	Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
12	하만은 모르드개를 대궐 수위실로 돌려보내고 고개를 떨어뜨린 채 울상이 되어 급히 집으로 돌아가,	And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
13	아내 제레스와 측근을 모두 불러놓고 방금 당한 일을 들려주었다. 그의 참모들과 아내 제레스가 이렇게 말하였다. "대감은 이제 유다 종자 모르드개 앞에 무릎을 꿇었습니다. 다시는 그 앞에서 머리를 들지 못하게 되었습니다. 그러니, 아예 그 사람에게 손을 댈 생각을 마십시오."	And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
14	하만이 몰락하다 이런 이야기를 하고 있는데, 왕을 모시는 내시들이 와서 에스델이 베푼 잔치에 하만을 급히 데리고 갔다.	And while they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.
