1	살인자의 도피성 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주실 땅을, 현재 차지하고 있는 민족들을 너희 하느님 야훼께서 소탕해 주시어 너희가 그 땅을 차지하고 그 성읍과 집에서 살게 되거든,	When the Lord thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the Lord thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
2	너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주시어 차지하게 하신 땅에 있는 성읍들 가운데서 셋을 따로 구별해 놓아야 한다.	Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.
3	너희 하느님 야훼께 물려받아 너희 것이 된 곳 전역을 적당한 거리를 두고 세 지역으로 나누어서 모든 살인자가 피신할 수 있는 장소로 삼아라.	Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
4	살인자가 그리로 피신한다고 하여 다 사는 것은 아니다. 살 수 있는 경우는 일찍이 미워한 일도 없는데 엉겁결에 동족을 쳐죽였을 경우뿐이다.	And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
5	가령 동족과 함께 나무하러 숲 속에 들어가 도끼를 휘둘러 나무를 찍다가 도끼 날이 자루에서 빠져 동족을 쳐서 죽게 했을 경우, 그는 이 성읍들 가운데 어디에든지 피신하면 살 수가 있다.	As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
6	그 거리가 너무 멀면 피살자에게 앙갚음을 하여줄 근친이 복수심에 불타 그를 따라잡아 죽이게 될 터이니 너무 멀어서는 안 된다. 그는 일찍이 피살자를 미워한 일이 없었으므로 죽을 죄를 지었다고 할 수 없는 것이다.	Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
7	세 성읍을 따로 떼어놓으라고 너희에게 명령하는 것은 이 때문이다.	Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
8	너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희 선조들에게 맹세하신 대로 너희 국경을 넓혀주시어 너희 선조들에게 주시겠다고 약속하신 그 땅을 너희가 모두 차지할 때가 올 것이다.	And if the Lord thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
9	물론 내가 오늘 너희에게 내리는 이 모든 명령을 성심껏 지켜 죽을 때까지 너희 하느님 야훼를 사랑하고 그가 가르쳐주신 길을 따라야 그렇게 되겠지만, 그 때에는 이 세 성읍에다 세 성읍을 더 추가해야 한다.	If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
10	그리하여 너희 하느님 야훼께 물려받아 너희 것이 된 곳에서 죄없는 자의 피를 흘리는 일이 없도록 하여라. 그리하여 피 흘린 죗값을 너희가 받지 않도록 하여라.	That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
11	그러나 동족을 미워하여 기회를 노리다가 달려들어 쳐죽이고 이 성읍들 중의 어느 곳에나 피신한 자가 있거든,	But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
12	그가 살던 성읍의 장로들이 사람을 그리로 보내어 그를 잡아다가, 피살자에게 앙갚음을 하여줄 근친에게 넘겨주어 죽이게 하여라.	Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13	그런 자는 애처롭게 여기지 마라. 이렇게 하여 죄없는 자가 피 흘리는 일을 이스라엘 가운데서 송두리째 뿌리뽑아야 한다. 그래야 너희가 잘될 것이다.	Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
14	경계선을 존중하여라 너희는 너희 하느님 야훼께서 너희에게 주시어 차지하게 한 땅에서 너희에게 배당된 구역과 이웃 구역 사이에 옛 어른들이 그어놓은 경계선을 옮기지 못한다.	Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.
15	거짓 증인이 받을 벌 어떤 나쁜 짓이든 어떤 잘못이든, 한 사람의 증언만으로는 증언이 성립되지 않는다. 어떤 잘못을 저질렀든지 두세 사람의 증언이 있어야 고소할 수 있다.	One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
16	남에게 죄를 뒤집어씌우려고 해로운 증언을 하는 자가 나타날 경우에는	If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
17	소송 중인 두 당사자는 야훼께로 나와 사제들과 그 때에 일보는 재판관들에게 재판을 받아야 한다.	Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
18	재판관들은 잘 조사해 보고 그 증인이 동족에게 거짓 증언을 한 것이 드러나면	And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19	그가 그 동족에게 하려고 마음먹었던 대로 그에게 갚아주어야 한다. 그리하여 이런 나쁜 짓을 너희 가운데서 송두리째 뿌리뽑아야 한다.	Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20	그리하면 다른 사람들이 이 말을 듣고 두려워하여 이런 나쁜 짓을 하는 자가 너희 가운데서 다시는 생기지 않을 것이다.	And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
21	그런 자는 애처롭게 여기지 마라. 목숨은 목숨으로, 눈은 눈으로, 이는 이로, 손은 손으로, 발은 발로 갚아라.	And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
