1	에브라임 장정들이 모여 요르단 강을 건너 사본으로 와서 입다에게 항의하였다. "네가 암몬 사람들과 싸우러 건너갈 때에 우리도 불러 함께 출전하게 하지 않았으니, 어찌 그럴 수가 있느냐? 우리가 네 일족을 불에 태워 죽이리라."	And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2	입다가 그들에게 대답하였다. "내가 내 백성을 거느리고 암몬 사람들과 격전하기에 앞서 나는 와서 도와달라고 너희를 불렀다. 그러나 너희는 그들의 손아귀에서 우리를 건져내려고 하지 않았다.	And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3	너희가 아무도 나를 도우러 오지 않는 것을 보고 나는 목숨을 내놓고 암몬 진지로 쳐들어갔다. 그러자 야훼께서는 그들을 내 손에 부쳐주셨다. 그런데 어찌하여 오늘 너희가 나에게 와서 도리어 싸움을 거느냐?"	And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4	입다는 길르앗 전군을 이끌고 에브라임과 싸워 에브라임을 격파하였다. 길르앗 사람들은 에브라임 사람들에게 조롱을 받는 처지였다. "에브라임에서 도망친 길르앗 놈들, 에브라임과 므나쎄 사람들 속을 떠도는 놈들"이라는 말을 들어왔던 것이다.	Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5	길르앗 군은 에브라임 지역의 요르단 강 나루를 차지하고 에브라임 사람이 도망치다가 건네달라고 하면, 에브라임 사람이냐고 묻고 아니라고 하면	And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6	"쉽볼렛"이라고 말해 보라고 하고 그대로 발음하지 못하고 "십볼렛"이라고 하면 잡아서 그 요르단 강 나루턱에서 죽였다. 이렇게 하여 그 때 죽은 에브라임 사람의 수는 사만 이천이나 되었다.	Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7	길르앗 사람 입다는 육 년 동안 이스라엘의 판관으로 있다가 죽어 길르앗에 있는 자기의 성읍 미스바에 묻혔다.	And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8	판관 입산 그 뒤로 베들레헴 출신 입산이 이스라엘의 판관으로 있었다.	And after him Ibzan of Beth–lehem judged Israel.
9	그에게는 아들과 딸이 각각 삼십 명 있었는데 딸들은 일가 아닌 사람들에게 시집보냈고 며느리 삼십 명도 일가 밖에서 맞아들였다. 그는 칠 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스리다가	And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10	죽어 베들레헴에 묻혔다.	Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth–lehem.
11	판관 엘론 그 뒤로 즈불룬 출신 엘론이 이스라엘의 판관이 되었다. 그는 십 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸다.	And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12	그는 죽어 즈불룬 땅에 있는 엘론에 묻혔다.	And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13	판관 압돈 그 뒤로 비라돈 출신 힐렐의 아들 압돈이 이스라엘의 판관이 되었다.	And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14	그에게는 나귀를 타고 다니는 아들 사십 명과 손자 삼십 명이 있었다. 그는 팔 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸다.	And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15	그는 죽어 에브라임 산악 지대에 있는 사알림 지방 비라돈에 묻혔다.	And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
