절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	다윗이 암몬과 아람을 치다 그 뒤 암몬 왕이 죽고 그 아들 하눈이 왕위에 올랐다.	And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
2	이 말을 듣고 다윗은, "하눈의 아버지 나하스가 지난날 나에게 한결같이 잘해 주었으니 나도 그의 아들 하눈에게 은혜를 갚아주리라." 하면서 조문 사절단을 보냈다. 그런데 다윗의 사절단이 암몬 땅에 이르자,	Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3	암몬의 지휘관들이 상전인 하눈에게 이렇게 말하였다. "다윗이 선왕께 경의를 표하려고 조객을 보낸 것이 아닙니다. 다윗은 틀림없이 이 성을 함락시킬 속셈으로 염탐해 오라고 이 사절단을 보냈습니다."	And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
4	이 말에 하눈은 다윗의 사절들을 잡아 수염을 절반씩 깎아버리고 옷은 엉덩이가 드러나도록 절반씩 잘라 돌려보냈다.	Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5	다윗은 이 소식을 듣고 너무 심한 수모라 생각하여 그들에게 수염이 자랄 때까지 예리고에 있다가 돌아오라고 전갈을 보냈다.	When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
6	암몬 사람들은 다윗의 미움을 산 줄 알고 사방으로 사람을 보내어 벳르홉 아람과 소바 아람 보병 이만을 비롯하여, 마아가 왕이 거느린 군대 천과 돕 군 만 이천을 고용하였다.	And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth–rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish–tob twelve thousand men.
7	이 소식을 듣고 다윗은 전 상비군을 요압에게 맡겨 내보냈다.	And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
8	암몬 군은 성문 앞에 나와 진을 치고 소바 아람 군과 르홉 아람 군과 돕과 마아가 군은 따로따로 들에 진을 쳤다.	And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish–tob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
9	요압은 적이 앞뒤로 포진한 것을 보고 이스라엘의 전 정예부대 가운데서 날랜 군사들을 뽑아서 아람 군과 맞서게 하고,	When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
10	남은 군대는 동생 아비새에게 맡겨 암몬 군을 맞게 하였다.	And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11	그리고 요압은 이렇게 일렀다. "만일 아람 군이 나보다 세거든 네가 와서 나를 도와다오. 암몬 군이 너보다 세면 내가 너를 도우러 가겠다.	And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
12	용기를 내어라. 우리 겨레와 우리 하느님의 성읍들을 위하여 용기를 내자. 뒷일은 야훼께 맡기자!"	Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord do that which seemeth him good.
13	자기 부대를 거느리고 짓쳐 나가는 요압 앞에서 아람 군은 쫓겨 달아났다.	And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
14	아람 군이 달아나는 것을 보고 암몬 군도 아비새에게 쫓겨 성으로 들어가 버렸다. 요압은 암몬 군을 더 이상 공격하지 않고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.	And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15	아람 군은 이스라엘에게 패하자 전 병력을 동원하였다.	And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16	그리고 하다데젤은 사람을 보내어 유프라테스 강 건너편에 있는 아람인들을 출동시켜 헬람으로 진격해 왔다. 지휘관은 하다데젤의 사령관 소박이었다.	And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
17	이 정보를 듣고 다윗은 이스라엘의 전군을 소집하여 요르단 강을 건너 헬람으로 진격해 갔다. 아람 군은 진을 치고 다윗 군과 맞붙어 싸웠으나	And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
18	마침내 이스라엘 군에게 쫓겨 달아나고 말았다. 다윗은 아람 병거대 칠백 명과 기병대 사만 명을 무찌르고 적의 사령관 소박을 쳐죽였다.	And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
19	하다데젤에게 붙었던 모든 왕들은 아람 군이 이스라엘에게 패하는 것을 보고 이스라엘과 화친하고 이스라엘의 속국이 되었다. 아람 사람들은 혼이 나서 다시는 암몬 백성을 돕지 않았다.	And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
