절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	불레셋이 하느님의 궤 때문에 벌을 받다 불레셋 군은 빼앗은 하느님의 궤를 에벤에젤에서 아스돗으로 옮겼다.	And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben–ezer unto Ashdod.
2	불레셋 군은 그 하느님의 궤를 다곤 신전으로 옮겨다가 다곤 바로 곁에 두었다.	When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3	그런데 이튿날 아침 아스돗 백성이 일어나서 보니 다곤이 땅에 얼굴을 박은 채 야훼의 궤 앞에 쓰러져 있었다. 그들은 다곤을 일으켜 제자리에 세웠다.	And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
4	이튿날 아침 일어나서 보니 다곤이 또 땅에 얼굴을 박은 채 야훼의 궤 앞에 넘어져 있었다. 다곤은 몸통만 성한채로 남아 있었고 부러진 목과 동강난 두 손은 문지방께에 구르고 있었다.	And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
5	그래서 오늘날까지 다곤의 사제들과 아스돗에 있는 다곤의 신전에 드나드는 사람은 누구를 막론하고 다곤의 문지방을 밟지 않는다.	Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
6	야훼께서는 아스돗 백성을 호되게 치시어 공포에 몰아넣으셨다. 아스돗에 종기가 돌고 온 지경에 쥐가 들끓었던 것이다.	But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
7	이렇게 되자 아스돗 사람들은 겁에 질려 "이스라엘 신의 궤를 여기에 두어서는 안 되겠다. 우리의 신 다곤과 우리에게 마구 행패를 부린다." 하면서	And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
8	사람을 보내어 불레셋 추장들을 불러모아 놓고, 이스라엘 신의 궤를 어떻게 할 것이냐고 의논한 끝에 이스라엘 신의 궤를 갓으로 옮기는 것이 좋겠다고 하였다. 그래서 그들은 이스라엘 신의 궤를 갓으로 옮겼다.	They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
9	그런데 그것을 그리로 옮기자 야훼께서 손으로 그 성도 호되게 치시는 바람에 큰 소동이 일어났다. 온 성에 종기가 돌아 높은 자나 낮은 자나 모조리 종기가 났다.	And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
10	그래서 그들은 하느님의 궤를 다시 에크론으로 보냈다. 하느님의 궤가 에크론에 닿자, 에크론 사람들도 "이스라엘 신의 궤를 이리로 가져오다니, 우리 일족을 죽일 작정이냐?" 하면서 아우성을 쳤다.	Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
11	그래서 그들은 불레셋 추장들을 모두 불러, 의논한 끝에 "이스라엘 신의 궤를 내어놓지 않았다가는 우리 일족이 몰살을 당하겠다." 하며 본래 있던 곳으로 돌려보내기로 하였다. 하느님께서 그 손으로 성마다 호되게 치시는 바람에 떼죽음을 당하는 소동이 일어났던 것이다.	So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
12	가까스로 죽음을 면한 자는 종기에 걸려 있었다. 그래서 온 성에서 울리는 비명 소리가 하늘에 사무쳤다.	And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
