1	백인대장의 종을 고치신 예수 예수께서는 이 모든 말씀을 사람들에게 들려주신 뒤에 가파르나움으로 가셨다.	Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2	마침 그 때 어떤 백인대장의 종이 중병으로 거의 죽게 되었는데 그는 주인이 대단히 아끼는 종이었다.	And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3	백인대장이 예수의 이야기를 듣고 유다인의 원로 몇 사람을 예수께 보내어, 집에 오셔서 자기 종을 살려주십사 하고 간청하게 하였다.	And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4	그래서 그들은 예수께 와서 간곡히 부탁 드리기를 "그 백인대장은 도와주실 만한 사람입니다.	And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5	그는 우리 민족을 사랑할 뿐만 아니라 우리에게 회당까지 지어주었습니다." 하였다.	For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
6	이 말을 들으시고 예수께서는 그들과 함께 가셨다. 백인대장의 집에서 그리 멀지 않은 곳에 이르렀을 때에 백인대장은 친구들을 시켜 예수께 전갈을 보냈다. "주님, 수고롭게 오실 것까지 없습니다. 저는 주님을 제 집에 모실 만한 사람이 못 되며	Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
7	감히 주님을 나가 뵐 생각을 못하고 있습니다. 그저 한 말씀만 하십시오. 그러면 제 종이 낫겠습니다.	Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8	저도 남의 밑에 있는 사람입니다만 제 밑에도 부하들이 있어서 제가 이 사람더러 가라 하면 가고 또 저 사람더러 오라 하면 옵니다. 또 제 종에게 이것을 하라 하면 합니다."	For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9	예수께서 이 말을 들으시고 감탄하시며 따라오는 군중을 돌아다 보시고 "잘 들어두어라. 나는 이런 믿음을 이스라엘 사람에게서도 본 일이 없다." 하고 말씀하셨다.	When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10	심부름 왔던 사람들이 집에 돌아가 보니 종은 이미 깨끗이 나아 있었다.	And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
11	다시 살아난 과부의 아들 얼마 뒤에 예수께서 나인이라는 동네로 가시는데 제자들과 많은 사람들도 함께 따라갔다.	And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12	예수께서 성문 가까이 이르렀을 때에 마침 죽은 사람을 메고 나오는 장례 행렬과 마주치시게 되었다. 죽은 사람은 어떤 과부의 외아들이었고 동네 사람들이 큰 떼를 지어 과부와 함께 상여를 따라오고 있었다.	Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13	주께서는 그 과부를 보시고 측은한 마음이 드시어 "울지 마라." 하고 위로하시며	And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14	앞으로 다가서서 상여에 손을 대시자 메고 가던 사람들이 걸음을 멈추었다. 그 때 예수께서 "젊은이여, 일어나라." 하고 명령하셨다.	And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15	그랬더니 죽었던 젊은이가 벌떡 일어나 앉으며 말을 하기 시작하였다. 예수께서는 그를 그 어머니에게 돌려주셨다.	And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16	사람들은 모두 두려움에 사로잡혀 하느님을 찬양하며 "우리 가운데 위대한 예언자가 나타나셨다."고 말하기도 하였고 또 "하느님께서 자기 백성을 찾아와 주셨다."고 말하기도 하였다.	And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
17	예수의 이 이야기가 온 유다와 그 근방에 두루 퍼져 나갔다. ()	And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the region round about.
18	세례자 요한이 보낸 사람들 요한의 제자들이 이 모든 일을 요한에게 알렸다. 그래서 요한은 자기 제자 두 사람을 불러서	And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
19	주님께 보내어 "오시기로 되어 있는 분이 바로 선생님이십니까? 그렇지 않으면 우리가 또 다른 분을 기다려야 하겠습니까?" 하고 묻게 하였다.	And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
20	그 두 사람이 예수께 가서 "세례자 요한이 저희를 선생님께 보내면서 '오시기로 되어 있는 분이 바로 선생님이십니까? 그렇지 않으면 우리가 또 다른 분을 기다려야 하겠습니까?' 하고 물어보라고 하십니다." 하고 말하였다.	When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
21	바로 그 때 예수께서는 온갖 질병과 고통과 마귀에 시달리는 많은 사람들을 고쳐주시고 또 많은 소경들의 눈도 뜨게 해주셨다.	And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22	그래서 예수께서는 요한의 제자들에게 이렇게 대답하셨다. "너희가 보고 들은 대로 요한에게 가서 알려라. 소경이 보게 되고 절름발이가 제대로 걸으며 나병환자가 깨끗해지고 귀머거리가 들으며 죽은 사람이 살아나고 가난한 사람이 복음을 듣는다.	Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
23	나에게 의심을 품지 않는 사람은 참으로 행복하다." ()	And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
24	세례자 요한에 대한 예수의 증언 예수께서는 요한의 제자들이 떠나간 뒤에 요한을 두고 군중에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희는 무엇을 구경하러 광야에 나갔었느냐? 바람에 흔들리는 갈대냐?	And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
25	아니면 무엇을 보러 나갔었느냐? 화려한 옷을 입은 사람이냐? 화려한 옷을 입고 사치스럽게 사는 사람들은 왕궁에 있다.	But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
26	그렇다면 너희는 무엇을 보러 나갔었느냐? 예언자냐? 그렇다. 그러나 사실은 예언자보다 더 훌륭한 사람을 보았다.	But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
27	성서에, '너를 보내기에 앞서 내 일꾼을 먼저 보낸다. 그가 네 갈 길을 미리 닦아놓으리라.' 하신 말씀은 바로 이 사람을 가리킨 것이다.	This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
28	사실 여자의 몸에서 태어난 사람 중에 세례자 요한보다 더 큰 인물은 없다. 그러나 하느님 나라에서는 가장 작은 이라도 그 사람보다 크다."	For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
29	모든 백성들은 물론 세리들까지도 요한의 설교를 듣고 그의 세례를 받으며 하느님의 뜻을 받아들였으나	And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
30	바리사이파 사람들과 율법학자들은 요한의 세례를 받지 않고 자기들에 대한 하느님의 뜻을 받아들이지 않았던 것이다.	But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
31	예수께서 또 말씀하셨다. "이 세대 사람들을 무엇에 비길 수 있을까? 도대체 무엇과 같을까?	And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
32	마치 장터에서 편갈라 앉아 서로 소리지르며, '우리가 피리를 불어도 너희는 춤추지 않았고 우리가 곡을 하여도 너희는 울지 않았다.' 하는 아이들과도 같다.	They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
33	너희는 세례자 요한이 와서 빵도 먹지 않고 포도주도 마시지 않으니까 '저 사람은 미쳤다.' 하더니	For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
34	사람의 아들이 와서 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하니까 '보아라, 저 사람은 즐겨 먹고 마시며 세리나 죄인들하고만 어울리는구나!' 하고 말한다.	The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
35	그러나 하느님의 지혜가 옳다는 것은 지혜를 받아들인 모든 사람에게서 드러난다."	But wisdom is justified of all her children.
36	용서받은 죄 많은 여자 예수께서 어떤 바리사이파 사람의 초대를 받으시고 그의 집에 들어가 음식을 잡수시게 되었다.	And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.
37	마침 그 동네에는 행실이 나쁜 여자가 하나 살고 있었는데 그 여자는 예수께서 그 바리사이파 사람의 집에서 음식을 잡수신다는 것을 알고 향유가 든 옥합을 가지고 왔다.	And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38	그리고 예수 뒤에 와서 발치에 서서 울며 눈물로 그 발을 적시었다. 그리고 자기 머리카락으로 닦고 나서 발에 입맞추며 향유를 부어드렸다.	And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39	예수를 초대한 바리사이파 사람이 이것을 보고 속으로 "저 사람이 정말 예언자라면 자기 발에 손을 대는 저 여자가 어떤 여자며 얼마나 행실이 나쁜 여자인지 알았을 텐데!" 하고 중얼거렸다.	Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40	그 때에 예수께서는 "시몬아, 너에게 물어볼 말이 있다." 하고 말씀하셨다. "예, 선생님, 말씀하십시오." 그러자 예수께서는 이렇게 말씀하셨다.	And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41	"어떤 돈놀이꾼에게 빚을 진 사람 둘이 있었다. 한 사람은 오백 데나리온을 빚졌고 또 한 사람은 오십 데나리온을 빚졌다.	There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42	이 두 사람이 다 빚을 갚을 힘이 없었기 때문에 돈놀이꾼은 그들의 빚을 다 탕감해 주었다. 그러면 그 두 사람 중에 누가 더 그를 사랑하겠느냐?"	And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43	시몬은 "더 많은 빚을 탕감받은 사람이겠지요." 하였다. 예수께서는 "옳은 생각이다." 하시고	Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44	그 여자를 돌아보시며 시몬에게 말씀을 계속하셨다. "이 여자를 보아라. 내가 네 집에 들어왔을 때 너는 나에게 발 씻을 물도 주지 않았지만 이 여자는 눈물로 내 발을 적시고 머리카락으로 내 발을 닦아주었다.	And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45	너는 내 얼굴에도 입맞추지 않았지만 이 여자는 내가 들어왔을 때부터 줄곧 내 발에 입맞추고 있다.	Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46	너는 내 머리에 기름을 발라주지 않았지만 이 여자는 내 발에 향유를 발라주었다.	My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47	잘 들어두어라. 이 여자는 이토록 극진한 사랑을 보였으니 그만큼 많은 죄를 용서받았다. 적게 용서받은 사람은 적게 사랑한다."	Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48	그리고 예수께서는 그 여자에게 "네 죄는 용서받았다." 하고 말씀하셨다.	And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49	그러자 예수와 한 식탁에 앉아 있던 사람들이 속으로 "저 사람이 누구인데 죄까지 용서해 준다고 하는가?" 하고 수군거렸다.	And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50	그러나 예수께서는 그 여자에게 "네 믿음이 너를 구원하였다. 평안히 가거라." 하고 말씀하셨다.	And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
