1	사도의 권리와 의무 내가 자유인이 아니란 말입니까? 내가 사도가 아니란 말입니까? 내가 우리 주 예수를 뵙지 못했단 말입니까? 여러분은 바로 내가 주님을 위해서 일하여 얻은 열매가 아닙니까?	Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?
2	비록 내가 다른 사람들에게는 사도가 아닐지라도 여러분에게는 사도입니다. 주님을 믿는 여러분이야말로 내가 사도라는 것을 증명해 주는 확실한 표입니다.	If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
3	나를 비판하는 사람들에게 나는 이렇게 답변합니다.	Mine answer to them that do examine me is this,
4	도대체 우리에게 먹고 마실 권리가 없단 말입니까?	Have we not power to eat and to drink?
5	우리라고 해서 다른 사도들이나 주님의 형제들이나 베드로처럼 그리스도를 믿는 아내를 데리고 다닐 권리가 없단 말입니까?	Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
6	혹은 나와 바르나바에게만 노동하지 않고 먹을 권리가 없단 말입니까?	Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
7	자기 비용을 써가면서 군인 노릇을 하는 사람이 도대체 어디 있습니까? 누가 포도밭을 만들어놓고 그 밭에서 열매를 따 먹지 않겠습니까? 또 도대체 누가 양을 친다면서 그 젖을 짜 먹지 않겠습니까?	Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
8	내가 단순히 인간의 경험만으로 이런 말을 하는 줄 아십니까? 율법도 이렇게 말하지 않습니까?	Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
9	모세의 율법에 "타작 마당에서 일하는 소에게 망을 씌우지 마라."라고 기록되어 있습니다. 하느님께서 소를 걱정해서 하신 말씀이겠습니까?	For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
10	아니면 우리들을 위해서 하신 말씀이겠습니까? 물론 우리를 위해서 기록해 두신 말씀입니다. 밭을 가는 사람이 희망을 가지고 일하고, 타작하는 사람이 자기 몫을 얻으리라는 희망을 가지고 일하는 것은 당연한 일입니다.	Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
11	우리가 여러분에게 영적인 씨를 심어주었는데 이제 여러분에게서 물질적인 것을 거둔다고 해서 그것이 지나친 일이겠습니까?	If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
12	다른 사람들이 여러분에게서 거두어갈 권리를 가졌다면 우리에게는 더 큰 권리가 있지 않겠습니까? 그러나 우리는 이 권리를 행사하지 않았습니다. 오히려 그리스도의 복음을 전하는 데 조금이라도 방해가 되지 않도록 모든 것을 참고 지냈습니다.	If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
13	성전에서 일하는 사람들은 성전에서 나오는 것을 먹고 살며 제단을 맡아보는 사람들은 제단 제물을 나누어가진다는 것을 모르십니까?	Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
14	이와 같이 복음을 전하는 사람들도 그 일로 먹고 살 수 있도록 주님께서 제정해 주셨습니다.	Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
15	그러나 나는 이런 권리를 조금도 써본 일이 없습니다. 또 내 권리를 주장하고 싶어서 이런 말을 하는 것도 아닙니다. 그러느니 차라리 죽는 것이 낫겠습니다. 내가 보수를 받지 않고 일한다는 이 긍지만은 아무도 빼앗지 못할 것입니다.	But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
16	내가 복음을 전한다 해서 그것이 나에게 자랑거리가 될 수는 없습니다. 그것은 내가 마땅히 해야 할 일이기 때문입니다. 만일 내가 복음을 전하지 않는다면 나에게 화가 미칠 것입니다.	For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
17	만일 내가 내 자유로 이 일을 택해서 하고 있다면 응당 보수를 바랄 수 있을 것입니다. 그러나 사실은 내 자유로 택한 것이 아니라 하느님께서 그 일을 내 직무로 맡겨주신 것입니다.	For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
18	그러니 나에게 무슨 보수가 있겠습니까? 보수가 있다면 그것은 내가 복음을 전하는 사람으로서 응당 받을 수 있는 것을 요구하지 않고 복음을 거저 전할 수 있다는 사실입니다.	What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
19	나는 어느 누구에게도 매여 있지 않는 자유인이지만 되도록 많은 사람을 얻으려고 스스로 모든 사람의 종이 되었습니다.	For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20	내가 유다인들을 대할 때에는 그들을 얻으려고 유다인처럼 되었고 율법의 지배를 받는 사람들을 대할 때에는 나 자신은 율법의 지배를 받지 않으면서도 그들을 얻으려고 율법의 지배를 받는 사람처럼 되었습니다.	And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21	나는 그리스도의 법의 지배를 받고 있으니 실상은 하느님의 율법을 떠난 사람이 아니지만 율법이 없는 사람들을 대할 때에는 그들을 얻으려고 율법이 없는 사람처럼 되었습니다.	To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22	그리고 내가 믿음이 약한 사람들을 대할 때에는 그들을 얻으려고 약한 사람이 되었습니다. 이와 같이 내가 어떤 사람을 대하든지 그들처럼 된 것은 어떻게 해서든지 그들 중에서 다만 몇 사람이라도 구원하려고 한 것입니다.	To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23	나는 복음을 전하기 위해서는 무슨 일이라도 하고 있습니다. 그리하여 그들과 다 같이 복음의 축복을 나누려는 것입니다.	And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
24	경기장에서 달음질하는 사람들이 다 같이 달리지만 상을 받는 사람은 하나뿐이라는 것을 여러분은 모르십니까? 여러분도 힘껏 달려서 상을 받도록 하십시오.	Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25	경기에 나서는 사람들은 온갖 어려움을 이겨내야 합니다. 그들은 썩어 없어질 월계관을 얻으려고 그렇게 애쓰지만 우리는 불멸의 월계관을 얻으려고 애쓰는 것입니다.	And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26	그러므로 나는 달음질을 하되 목표 없이 달리지 않고 권투를 하되 허공을 치지 않습니다.	I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27	나는 내 몸을 사정없이 단련하여 언제나 민첩하게 움직일 수 있게 합니다. 이것은 내가 남들에게는 이기자고 외쳐놓고 나 자신이 실격자가 되지 않게 하려는 것입니다.	But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
