| 1 | ရှမွေလသည် အသက်ကြီးသောအခါ၊ မိမိသားတို့ကို ဣသရေလအမျိုး၌ အုပ်စိုးရသော အခွင့်နှင့် ခန့်ထား၏။ | And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. |
| 2 | သားဦးအမည်ကား ယောလ၊ ဒုတိယသားအမည်ကား အဘိရတည်း။ ထိုသူတို့သည် ဗေရရှေဗမြို့၌ တရားသူကြီးလုပ်ကြ၏။ | Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beer–sheba. |
| 3 | သို့ရာတွင် အဘလမ်းသို့မလိုက်။ ငွေကို တပ်မက်သော စိတ်နှင့် လွဲသွား၍ တံစိုးစားလျက် တရားကို ဖျက်ကြ၏။ | And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment. |
| 4 | ထိုအခါ ဣသရေလအမျိုး အသက်ကြီးသူအပေါင်းတို့သည် စည်းဝေး၍၊ ရှမွေလရှိရာ အရပ် ရာမမြို့သို့လာပြီးလျှင်၊ | Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, |
| 5 | ကိုယ်တော်သည် အသက်ကြီးပါ၏။ ကိုယ်တော်၏သားတို့သည် ကိုယ်တော်လမ်းသို့ မလိုက်ကြပါ။ လူမျိုးအပေါင်းတို့၏ ထုံးစံရှိသည်အတိုင်း အကျွန်ုပ်တို့ကို အုပ်စိုးရသော ရှင်ဘုရင်ကို ချီးမြှောက်ပါ လော့ဟု လျှောက်ကြ၏။ | And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. |
| 6 | ထိုသို့ အကျွန်ုပ်တို့ကို အုပ်စိုးရသော ရှင်ဘုရင်ကို ပေးပါလော့ဟု လျှောက်သောအမှုကို ရှမွေလသည် မနှစ်သက်သောကြောင့် ထာဝရဘုရားအား ဆုတောင်းလေ၏။ | But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord. |
| 7 | ထာဝရဘုရားကလည်း၊ သင့်အား လူများတို့ ပြောဆိုသမျှသော စကားကို နားထောင်လော့။ သူတို့ သည် သင့်ကိုသာမပယ်၊ ငါသည် သူတို့ကို မအုပ်စိုးစေခြင်းငှါ ငါ့ကိုလည်းပယ်ကြပြီ။ | And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. |
| 8 | သူတို့ကို အဲဂုတ္တုပြည်မှ ငါဆောင်ခဲ့သောနေ့မှစ၍ ယနေ့တိုင်အောင် ငါ့ကိုစွန့်၍ အခြားတပါးသော ဘုရားတို့ကို ဝတ်ပြုသဖြင့် ကျင့်မိသမျှသော အကျင့်အတိုင်း သင်၌လည်း ပြုကြ၏။ | According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. |
| 9 | ယခုမှာ သူတို့စကားကို နားထောင်လော့။ သို့ရာတွင် သတိပေး၍ သူတို့ကို အုပ်စိုးသော ရှင်ဘုရင် ၏ ထုံးစံကို ပြလော့ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။ | Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. |
| 10 | ရှမွေလသည်လည်း၊ ရှင်ဘုရင်ကို တောင်းသောသူတို့အား ထာဝရဘုရား အမိန့်တော်ရှိသမျှကို ပြန်ပြော၍၊- | And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king. |
| 11 | သင်တို့ကို အုပ်စိုးသော ရှင်ဘုရင်၏ ထုံးစံဟူမူကား၊ သင်တို့သားများကိုယူ၍ မိမိရထားထိန်း၊ မြင်း ထိန်းအရာ၌ ခန့်ထား၍၊ အချို့တို့သည်လည်း သူ၏ရထားရှေ့မှာ ပြေးရကြမည်။ | And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. |
| 12 | လူတထောင်အုပ်၊ တရာအုပ်၊ ငါးဆယ်အုပ်၊ တဆယ်အုပ်အရာ၌ ခန့်ထား၍၊ လယ်လုပ်ခြင်း၊ စပါး ရိတ်ခြင်း၊ စစ်တိုက်တန်ဆာ၊ ရထားတန်ဆာကိုလုပ်ခြင်း အမှုများကို ဝေဖန်လိမ့်မည်။ | And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. |
| 13 | သင်တို့သမီးများကိုလည်း ယူ၍၊ ခဲဘွယ်စားဘွယ်တို့ကို ပြင်ဆင်စေခြင်းငှါ၎င်း၊ စားတော်ကဲ၊ မုန့်သည် ဖြစ်စေခြင်းငှါ၎င်း ခန့်ထားလိမ့်မည်။ | And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. |
| 14 | သင်တို့လယ်ကွက်၊ စပျစ်ဥယျာဉ်၊ သံလွင်ဥယျာဉ် အကောင်းဆုံးတို့ကို ယူ၍ မိမိကျွန်တို့အား ပေးလိမ့် မည်။ | And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. |
| 15 | သင်တို့မျိုးစေ့ စပျစ်သီးဆယ်ဘို့တဘို့ကို ယူ၍ သူ၏အရာရှိ အမှုထမ်းတို့အား ပေးလိမ့်မည်။ | And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. |
| 16 | သင်တို့ကျွန်၊ ကျွန်မ၊ အကောင်းဆုံးသော လုလင်၊ မြည်းများကို ယူ၍ သူ၏ အမှုကို လုပ်ကိုင်စေ လိမ့်မည်။ | And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work. |
| 17 | သင်တို့သိုးစုဆယ်ဘို့ တဘို့ကိုလည်းယူ၍ သင်တို့သည် သူ၏ ကျွန်ခံရကြမည်။ | He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants. |
| 18 | သင်တို့ ရွေးယူသော ရှင်ဘုရင်ကြောင့်၊ ထိုနေ့၌ သင်တို့ အော်ဟစ်သော်လည်း၊ ထာဝရဘုရားသည် နားထောင်တော်မမူဟု သတိပေးလေ၏။ | And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the Lord will not hear you in that day. |
| 19 | သို့သော်လည်း လူများတို့က၊ မဟုတ်ပါ။ အုပ်စိုးသော ရှင်ဘုရင်ကို လိုချင်ပါ၏။ | Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; |
| 20 | အကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် တပါးအမျိုးသားအပေါင်းတို့နှင့် တူမည်အကြောင်း အကျွန်ုပ်တို့ကို အုပ်စိုးသော ရှင်ဘုရင်ရှိရမည်။ အကျွန်ုပ်တို့ရှေ့မှာ ထွက်ကြွ၍ စစ်တိုက်ရမည်ဟု ရှမွေလ၏ စကားကို နားမထောင် ဘဲ ဆိုကြ၏။ | That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. |
| 21 | ထိုသူတို့၏ စကားများကို ရှမွေလသည် ကြားလျှင်၊ ထာဝရဘုရားရှေ့တော်၌ လျှောက်လေ၏။ | And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord. |
| 22 | ထာဝရဘုရားကလည်း၊ သူတို့စကားကို နားထောင်၍ သူတို့အဘို့ ရှင်ဘုရင်ကို ချီးမြှောက်လော့ဟု မိန့်တော်မူသဖြင့်၊ ရှမွေလက၊ သင်တို့အသီးအသီး နေရာ မြို့ရွာသို့ ပြန်သွားကြလော့ဟု ဣသရေလ လူတို့အား ပြောဆိုလေ၏။ | And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city. |
