1 イエズス、橄欖山に往き、 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 黎明に復[神]殿に至り給ひしに、人民皆御許に來りければ、坐して之を教へ居給ひしが、 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 律法學士、ファリザイ人等、姦淫せる時捕へられたる一人の婦を引來りて之を眞中に立たせ、 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 イエズスに云ひけるは、師よ、此婦は今姦淫せる處を捕へられたり、 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 モイゼは律法に於て斯る者に石を擲つ事を我等に命じたるが、汝は之を何と謂ふぞ、と。 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 斯く云へるは、イエズスを試みて、訟ふる條件を得ん為なりしが、イエズスは身を屈め、指もて地に物を書き居給へり。 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 然るに彼等問ひて止まざりしかば、イエズス立上り、汝等の中罪なき人は、先に石を彼に擲つべし、と曰ひ、 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 再び身を屈めて地に物書き居給へるに、 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 彼等聞きて、年長を初として一人々々に立去り、唯イエズスと眞中に立てる婦とのみ遺りしかば、 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 イエズス立上りて之に曰ひけるは、婦よ、汝を訟へ居たりし人々は何處に居るぞ、誰も汝を罪に定めざりしか、と。 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 婦、主よ誰も、と云ひしかば、イエズス曰ひけるは、我も汝を罪に定めじ、往け、此後復罪を犯すこと勿れ、と。 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 然てイエズス再び人々に語りて、我は世の光なり、我に從ふ人は暗黒を歩まず、却て生命の光を得べし、と曰ひければ、 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13 ファリザイ人之に謂ひけるは、汝は自ら己を證明す、汝の證明は眞實ならず。 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14 イエズス答へて曰ひけるは、我は己を證明すれども、我證明は眞實なり、是我が何處より來りて何處に往くかを知ればなり。然れど汝等は、我が何處より來りて何處に往くかを知らず、 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15 汝等は肉親によりて是非し、我は誰をも是非せず、 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16 若是非する事あれば、我が是非する所は眞實なり、其は我獨に非ずして我と我を遣はし給ひし父となればなり。 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17 汝等の律法に録して、「二人の證は眞實なり」とあり、 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 我は己を證し、我を遣はし給ひし父も亦我を證し給ふなり、と。 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19 彼等乃ちイエズスに向ひ、汝の父何處にか在る、と云ひしかば、イエズス答へ給ひけるは、汝等は我をも我父をも知らず、若我を知りたらば必ず我父をも知れるならん、と。 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20 イエズスが斯く語り給ひしは、[神]殿の内、賽銭箱の傍にて教へつつありし時なれども、誰も手を掛くる者なかりき、其は彼の時未だ至らざればなり。 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21 然ればイエズス再び彼等に向ひ、我は往く、汝等我を尋ぬべけれども、己が罪の中に死せん、我が往く處には汝等來る能はず、と曰ひしかば、 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22 ユデア人、彼は我が往く處には汝等來る能はずと云ひしが、自殺せんとするか、と云ひけるに、 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23 イエズス曰ひけるは、汝等は下よりせるに、我は上よりせり、汝等は此世の者なるに、我は此世の者に非ず、 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 我是によりて、汝等己が罪の中に死せんと云へり、蓋汝等、若我が其なる事を信ぜずば、己が罪の中に死すべし、と。 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25 彼等、汝は誰なるぞ、と云ひしかば、イエズス曰ひけるは、我は即ち素より汝等に告ぐる所の者なり。 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26 我汝等に就きて云ふべき事、審くべき事多し、然りながら我を遣はし給ひし者は眞實にて在し、我が世に在りて語る所は彼より聞きしものなり、と。 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27 斯ても彼等は、イエズスが神を我父と稱し給へることを暁らざりき。 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28 然ればイエズス彼等に曰ひけるは、汝等人の子を挙げたらん時、我が其なる事を暁り、又我が私には何事をも為さず、父の教へ給へる儘に、此等の事を語るを暁らん。 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 我を遣はし給ひし者は我と共に在して、我を孤ならしめ給はず、其は我が恒に御意に適へる事を為せばなり、と。 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30 斯く語り給へるに、信仰する人多かりければ、 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 イエズス己を信じたるユデア人に向ひ、汝等若我言に止らば實に我弟子にして、且眞理を暁り、 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 眞理は汝等を自由ならしめん、と曰ひしかば、 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 彼等答へけるは、我等はアブラハムの子孫にして未だ曾て誰にも奴隷たりし事なし、何ぞ汝等自由なるべしと言ふや、と。 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 イエズス彼等に答へ給ひけるは、誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、総て罪を犯す人は罪の奴隷なり、 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 奴隷は限なく家に止る者に非ず、子こそ限なく止るなれ、 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 然れば子若汝等を自由ならしめば、汝等實に自由成るべし。 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 汝等がアブラハムの子孫なる事は我之を知れり、然れども我言汝等の中に容れられざるによりて、汝等我を殺さんとす。 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 我は我父に就きて見し所を語り、汝等は己が父に就きて見し所を行ふなり、と。 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 彼等答へて、我等の父はアブラハムなり、と云ひしかば、イエズス彼等に曰ひけるは、汝等若アブラハムの子等ならばアブラハムの業を為せ、 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 然るに汝等は今、神より聞きたる眞理を汝等に告ぐる人たる我を殺さんと謀る、是アブラハムの為さざる所、 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 汝等は己が父の業を為すなり、と。是に於て彼等イエズスに云ひけるは、我等は私通によりて生れし者に非ず、我等に獨一の父即ち神あり、と。 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 イエズス乃ち彼等に曰ひけるは、神若汝等の父ならば汝等は必ず我を愛するならん、其は我神より出來りたればなり、即ち我は私に來りしに非ず、神こそ我を遣はし給ひしなれ。 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 汝等我談を弁へざるは何故ぞ、是我が語る所を聞き得ざる故なり。 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 汝等は惡魔なる父より出でて敢て己が父の望を行ふ、彼は初より殺人者にして眞理に立たざりき、眞理は彼の中に在らざればなり、彼は僞を云ふ時己より語る、其は僞者にして而も僞の父なればなり。 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 我眞理を説けども汝等之を信ぜず、 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 汝等の中誰か我に罪ある事を證せん。我汝等に眞理を説くも我を信ぜざるは何故ぞ、 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 神よりの者は神の御言を聴く、汝等の聴かざるは神よりの者ならざるによれり、と。 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48 斯てユデア人答へてイエズスに謂ひけるは、我等が、汝はサマリア人にして惡魔に憑かれたる者なり、と云へるは宜ならずや。 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 イエズス答へけるは、我惡魔に憑かれず、却て我父を尊べるに、汝等は我を侮辱す。 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50 但我は己の光榮を求めず、之を求め且審判し給ふ者は別に在り。 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51 誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、人若我言を守らば永遠に死を見ざるべし、と。 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52 是に於てユデア人云ひけるは、我等汝が惡魔に憑かれたるを今こそは暁りたれ、アブラハムも死し、預言者等も死せり、然るを汝、人若我言を守らば永遠に死を味はじと云ふ。 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53 汝は我等の父アブラハムよりも大いなる者なるか、彼も死し預言者も死したるに、汝は己を誰なりとするぞ。 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 イエズス答へ給ひけるは、我若自ら己に光榮を歸せば、我光榮は皆無成るべし、我に光榮を歸する者は我父なり。即ち汝等が己の神と稱する者なり。 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 汝等は彼を知らざれども我は彼を知れり、我若彼を知らずと云はば、汝等と均しく僞者たるべし、然れども我は彼を知り且其御言を守る。 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56 汝等の父アブラハムは、我日を見んと樂しみしが、見て喜べり、と。 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 是に於てユデア人イエズスに向ひ、汝未だ五十歳ならざるに、而もアブラハムを見たりしや、と云ひたるに、 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 イエズス曰ひけるは、誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、我はアブラハムの生るるに先ちて存す、と。 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59 是に於て人々石を取りてイエズスに擲たんとしけるに、イエズス身を隠して[神]殿より出で給へり。 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
