| 1 | 其後ユデア人の祭日ありしかば、イエズスエルザレムに上り給へり。 | After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. |
| 2 | 然てエルザレムには、羊門の傍に、ヘブレオ語にてベテスダと云へる池あり、之に付属せる五の廊ありて、 | Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. |
| 3 | 其内に夥しき病人、瞽者、跛者、癱瘋者等偃して水の動くを待ち居れり。 | In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. |
| 4 | 其は時として主の使池に下り、水為に動く事あり、水動きて後、眞先に池に下りたる者は如何なる病に罹れるも痊ゆればなり。 | For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. |

| 6 | イエズス彼が偃せるを見、且其患ふる事の久しきを知り給ひしかば、汝痊えん事を欲するか、と曰ひしに、 | When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? |
| 7 | 病者答へけるは、君よ、水の騒ぐ時に我を池に入るる人なし、然れば我が往く中に他の人我に先ちて下るなり、と。 | The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. |
| 8 | イエズス之に向ひ、起きよ、汝の寝台を取りて歩め、と曰へば、 | Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. |
| 9 | 其人忽ち痊え、寝台を取りて歩みたり。其日は安息日なりければ、 | And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. |
| 10 | ユデア人其痊えたる人に向ひ、安息日なり、汝寝台を携ふべからず、と云へるを、 | The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. |
| 11 | 彼は、我を醫しし人、汝の寝台を取りて歩めと云ひたるなり、と答へければ、 | He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. |
| 12 | 彼等、汝に寝台を取りて歩めと云ひし人は誰ぞ、と問ひたれど、 | Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? |
| 13 | 痊えたる人は其誰なるを知らざりき、其はイエズス既に此場の雑踏を避け給ひたればなり。 | And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. |
| 14 | 後イエズス[神]殿にて彼に遇ひ、看よ、汝は醫されたり、復罪を犯すこと勿れ、恐らくは尚大いなる禍汝に起らん、と曰ひけるに、 | Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. |
| 15 | 彼人往きて、己を醫ししはイエズスなりとユデア人に告げしかば、 | The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. |
| 16 | ユデア人は、安息日に斯る事を為し給ふとて、イエズスを譴め居たり。 | And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. |
| 17 | イエズス、我父は今に至るまで働き給へば、我も働くなり、と答へ給ひければ、 | But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. |
| 18 | ユデア人愈イエズスを殺さんと謀れり、其は啻に安息日を冒し給ふのみならず、神を我父と稱して、己を神と等しき者とし給へばなり。然ればイエズス答へて彼等に曰ひけるは、 | Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. |
| 19 | 誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、父の為し給ふ事を見る外に、子は自ら何事をも為す能はず。蓋総て父の為し給ふ事は、子も亦同じく之を為す。 | Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. |
| 20 | 即ち父は子を愛して、自ら為し給ふ所を悉く之に示し給ふ、又更に汝等が驚くばかり、一層大いなる業を之に示し給はんとす。 | For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. |
| 21 | 蓋父が死人を起して活かし給ふ如く、子も亦我が思ふ者を活かすなり。 | For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. |
| 22 | 又父は誰をも審判し給はず、審判を悉く子に賜ひたり。 | For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: |
| 23 | 是人皆父を尊ぶ如く子を尊ばん為なり。子を尊ばざる人は、之を遣はし給ひし父を尊ばざる者なり。 | That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. |
| 24 | 誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、我言を聴きて我を遣はし給ひし者を信ずる人は、永遠の生命を有し、且審判に至らずして、死より生に移りたる者なり。 | Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. |
| 25 | 誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、時は來る、今こそ其よ、即ち死人は神の子の聲を聞くべく、之を聴きたる人は活くべし。 | Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. |
| 26 | 蓋父は生命を己の衷に有し給ふ如く、子にも亦生命を己の衷に有する事を得させ給へり。 | For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; |
| 27 | 且人の子たるにより、審判する権能を之に賜ひしなり。 | And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. |
| 28 | 汝等之を怪しむ勿れ、墓の中なる人悉く神の子の聲を聞く時來らんとす。 | Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, |
| 29 | 斯て善を為しし人は、出でて生命に至らんが為に復活し、惡を行ひし人は、審判を受けんが為に復活せん。 | And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. |
| 30 | 我自らは何事をも為す能はずして、聞くが儘に審判す、而も我審判は正當なり、其は我己が意を求めず、我を遣はし給ひし者の思召を求むればなり。 | I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. |
| 31 | 我若自ら己を證明せば、我が證明は眞ならずとも、 | If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. |
| 32 | 我為に證明する者他にあり、而して我其わが為に作す證明の眞なるを知れり。 | There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. |
| 33 | 汝等曾て人をヨハネに遣はししに、彼は眞理を證明せり。 | Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. |
| 34 | 我は人よりの證明を受くる者に非ざれども、之を語るは汝等の救はれん為なり。 | But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. |
| 35 | 彼は燃え且輝ける燈なりしが、汝等は暫時其明によりて樂しまんとせり。 | He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. |
| 36 | 然れども我はヨハネのに優りて大いなる證明を有す。即ち父が全うせよとて我に授け給ひし業、我が為しつつある業其物が、父の我を遣はし給ひし事を證するなり。 | But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. |
| 37 | 我を遣はし給ひし父も、亦自ら我為に證し給ひしなり、然れど汝等は曾て御聲を聞きし事なく、御姿を見し事なく、 | And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. |
| 38 | 又御言を心に留むる事なし、是其遣はし給ひし者を信ぜざればなり。 | And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. |
| 39 | 汝等は聖書に永遠の生命を有すと思ひて之を探る、彼等も亦我を證明するものなり、 | Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. |
| 40 | 然れど汝等は生命を得ん為我許に來る事を肯ぜず。 | And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. |
| 41 | 我は名誉を人より受くる者に非ず、 | I receive not honour from men. |
| 42 | 而も汝等を知れり、即ち汝等は心に神を愛する事あらざるなり。 | But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. |
| 43 | 我は我父の名に由りて來れるに、汝等は我を承けず、若外に己の名に由りて來る人あらば、之をば承くるならん。 | I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. |
| 44 | 互に名誉を受けて、而も唯一の神より出づる名誉を求めざる汝等なれば、豈信ずることを得んや。 | How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? |
| 45 | 我汝等を父の御前に訟へんとすと思ふこと勿れ、汝等を訟ふる者あり、汝等が恃めるモイゼ是なり。 | Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. |
| 46 | 汝等若モイゼを信ずるならば、必ず我をも信ずるならん、其は彼我事を録したればなり。 | For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. |
| 47 | 然れど若彼の書を信ぜずば、争でか我言を信ぜんや、[と曰へり]。 | But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? |
