1 三日目にガリレアのカナに婚筵ありて、イエズスの母其處に居れるに、 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 イエズスも弟子等と共に招かれ給へり。 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 酒盡きければ、母イエズスに向ひ、彼等酒なし、と云ひしに、 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 イエズス、婦人よ、其は我と汝とに何かある、我時未だ來らずと曰ひしかば、 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 母は給仕等に向ひて、彼が汝等に言ふ所は、何にもあれ之を為せ、と言置けり。 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 然てユデア人が潔の習慣に随ひて、其處に二三斗入の石甕六個備へありしが、 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 イエズス給仕等に、水を甕に満てよ、と曰ひければ、彼等口まで満たししに、 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 イエズス又、今汲取りて筵司に持行け、と曰ひしかば即ち持行けり。 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 筵司、酒に化したる水を嘗むるや、給仕等は其由りて來る所を知れども己は之を知らざれば、新郎を呼び、 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 之に向ひて、誰も先佳酒を出して、人々の酔へるに至りて劣れる物を出すに、汝は佳酒を今まで取置けるよ、と云へり。 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 是イエズスの奇蹟の始にして、之をガリレアのカナに行ひ、己が光榮を顕し給ひしかば、弟子等之を信仰せり。 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
12 — After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
13 其後イエズス、母、兄弟、及び弟子等と共に、カファルナウムに下り給ひしが、皆其處に留る事久しからざりき。 ユデア人の過越祭近づきければ、イエズスエルザレムに上り、 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 [神]殿の内にて牛、羊、鴿を売る人々、及び坐せる兩替屋等を見給ひしかば、 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 縄を以て鞭めきたる物を作り、彼等を悉く[神]殿より逐出し、羊、牛をも逐出し、兩替屋の金を抛散して其案を覆し、 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 鴿を売る人々に向ひて、此物等を取退けよ、我父の家を商買の家と為すな、と曰へり。 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
17 弟子等は、録して「汝の家に對する熱心は我を食盡せり」とあるを思出せり。 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 斯てユデア人答へてイエズスに云ひけるは、汝如何なる徴を現して此等の事を為すぞ、と。 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 イエズス答へて、汝等此[神]殿を毀て、我三日の中に之を起さん、と曰ひしかば、 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 ユデア人云ひけるは、此[神]殿は、造るに四十六年を要せしに、汝三日の中に之を起すべきか、と。 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 但しイエズスは、己が體の[神]殿を斥して曰ひしなり。 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 然れば死者の中より復活し給へる後、弟子等此曰ひたりし事を思出して、聖書とイエズスの曰ひし御言とを信ぜり。 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23 イエズス過越の祭日に當りてエルザレムに居給ふ間、多くの人、其為し給へる奇蹟を視て、御名を信じたり。 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
24 然れどイエズスは、此等に身を打任せ給はざりき、其は自ら凡ての人を知り、 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,
25 又人の心に在る事を知り給へば、人に就て他人の證明を要し給はざる故なり。 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
