1 過越祭の六日前、イエズスベタニアに至り給ひしに、是ラザルの死したりしを復活せしめ給ひし處なれば、 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 或人々イエズスの為に晩餐を設け、マルタ給仕しけるが、ラザルはイエズスと共に食卓に就ける者の一人なりき。 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 然るにマリアは價高き純粋のナルドの香油一斤を取りてイエズスの御足に注ぎ、御足を己が髪毛もて拭ひしかば、香油の薫家に満てり。 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 其時弟子の一人、イエズスを売るべきイスカリオテのユダ、 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
5 何故に此香油を三百デナリオに売りて貧者に施さざりしぞ、と云へり。 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 但し斯く云ひしは貧者を慮れる故に非ず、己盗人にして、財嚢を預り、中に入れらるる物を取れる故なり。 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 然るにイエズス曰ひけるは、此女を措け、我葬の日の為に此香油を貯へたるなり、 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8 其は貧者は恒に汝等と共に居れども、我は恒に居らざればなり、と。 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9 斯てユデア人の大群衆、イエズスの此處に居給ふを知り、獨りイエズスの為のみならず、死者の中より復活せしめ給ひしラザルを見んとて來りしが、 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 司祭長等はラザルをも殺さんと思へり、 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 是は彼の為に、去りてイエズスを信仰する者、ユデア人の中に多ければなり。 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12 翌日、祭日の為に來りし夥しき群衆、イエズスエルザレムに來り給ふ由を聞きて、 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 梭櫚の葉を執りて出迎へ、ホザンナ、主の御名によりて來るイスラエルの王祝せられ給へかし、と呼はり居りしが、 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 イエズスは小驢馬を得て之に乗り給へり、録して And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 シオンの女よ、懼るること勿れ、看よ、汝の王は牝驢馬の子に乗りて來る」とあるが如し。 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
16 弟子等初は此等の事を暁らざりしが、光榮を得給ひて後、其イエズスに就きて録されたりし事と自ら御為に為し事とを思出せり。 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
17 然てイエズスがラザルを墓より呼出して、死者の中より復活せしめ給ひし時彼と共に居合せたり夥しき人々證明し、 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
18 群衆も亦、イエズスが此奇蹟を為し給ひしを聞きて出迎へしかば、 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
19 ファリザイ人語合ひけるは、汝等何の効験もなきを見ずや、世既に挙りて彼に從へり、と。 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
20 然るに祭日に禮拝せんとて上りたる人々の中に異邦人もありしが、 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 此人々ガリレアのベッサイダ生れなるフィリッポに近づき、之に乞ひて、君よ、我等はイエズスに謁えん事を欲す、と云ひしかば、 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 フィリッポ來りてアンデレアに告げ、アンデレアとフィリッポと又イエズスに告げしに、 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 イエズス答へて曰ひけるは、人の子が光榮を得べき時來れり。 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 誠に實に汝等に告ぐ、麦の粒地に墮ちて、若死せざれば、 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 唯一にして止るも、若死すれば多くの實を結ぶ。己が生命を愛する人は之を失ひ、此世にて生命を憎む人は、之を保ちて永遠の生命に至るべし、 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 人若我に事へば我に從ふべし、而して我が居る處には、我に事ふる人も亦居るべし、人若我に事へば、我父之に榮誉を賜はん。 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
27 今や我心騒げり、我何をか云はん、父よ、我を救ひて此時を免れしめ給へ、然りながら、我は之が為にこそ此時に至れるなれ、 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 父よ、御名に光榮あらしめ給へ、と。其時聲天より來りて曰く、我既に光榮あらしめたり、更に光榮あらしめん、と。 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 是に於て立ちて之を聞きたる群衆は、雷鳴れりと云ひ、或人々は、天使彼に言ひたるなり、と云へり。 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 イエズス答へて曰ひけるは、此聲の來りしは我が為に非ずして汝等の為なり。 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 今は世の審判なり、此世の長、今逐出されんとす、 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 我地より上げられたらん時は、萬民を我に引寄せん、と。 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33 斯く曰へるは、如何なる死状を以て死すべきかを示し給はんとてなるに、 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
34 群衆之に答へけるは、キリストは永遠に存すとこそ、我等は律法より聞けるものを、汝何ぞ人の子上げられるべしと云ふや、人の子とは是誰なるぞ、と。 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 イエズス即ち彼等に曰ひけるは、光は尚暫く汝等の中に在り、汝等光を有する間に歩みて、闇に追付かるな。闇に歩む人は行先を知らず、 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 汝等光を有する間に、光の子と成らん為に光を信ぜよ、と。斯く曰ひて後、イエズス去りて身を彼等より匿し給へり。 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37 斯ばかり夥しき奇蹟を彼等の前に為し給ひたれど、彼等尚イエズスを信ぜざりき。 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
38 是預言者イザヤの言の成就せん為なり、曰く「主よ、誰か我等に聴きて信じたるぞ、主の御腕は誰に顕れたるぞ」と。 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 彼等の信じ得ざりしはイザヤの又云ひし事によれり、 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
40 曰く「彼等目にて見ず、心にて暁らず、翻りて我に醫されざらん為に、神彼等の目を矇まし、彼等の心を頑固にし給へり」と。 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41 イザヤが斯く云ひしは、彼の光榮を見て、彼に就きて語りし時なり。 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42 然れども、重立ちたる人々の中にも、イエズスを信仰せる者多かりしが、ファリザイ人を憚り、會堂より遂出されじとて、之を公言せざりき。 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
43 即ち彼等は神の光榮よりも人の光榮を好みしなり。 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 イエズス呼はりて曰ひけるは、我を信ずる人は、我を信ずるに非ずして、我を遣はし給ひし者を信ずるなり。 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 又我を見る人は、我を遣はし給ひし者を見るなり。 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46 我は光として世に來れり、是総て我を信ずる人が暗に止らざらん為なり。 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 人若我言を聴きて守らざれば、我は之を審かず、我が來りしは世を審かん為に非ずして、世を救はん為なればなり。 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 我を軽んじて我言を受けざる人には、之を審く者あり、即ち我が語りし言其物、終の日に於て之を審くべし。 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 蓋我は己より語りしに非ず、我を遣はし給ひし父自ら、我が言ふべき事語るべき事を我に命じ給ひしなり、 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 我は其命令が永遠の生命たる事を知る、然れば我が語るは、父の我に曰ひし儘に之を語るなり、と。 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
