1 我又海より一の獣の上るを見たり、其は七の頭と十の角と有りて、其角の上に冠あり、頭の上に冒涜の名あり。 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 我が見し獣は豹の如く、其足は熊の足の如く、其口は獅子の如くにして、龍は之に己が座と大いなる権力とを與へたり。 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 我又見たるに、其一の頭死ぬばかり傷つけられたれど、其死ぬべき傷醫されしかば、全世界感嘆して此獣に從ひ、 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4 此獣に力を與へし龍を禮拝し、又獣を禮拝して言ひけるは、誰か此獣の如き者あらんや、誰か之と戰ふを得んや、と。 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 而して大言と冒涜とを吐く口を與へられ、四十二箇月の間働く権力を與へられ、 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 然て口を開きて神を冒涜し、其御名と其幕屋と天に住める者とを冒涜せり。 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 又聖人等と戰ひ、且之に勝つ事を許され、諸族、諸民、諸語、諸國に對する権力を與へられ、 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 斯て地上に住める人にして、世の初より殺され給ひたる羔の生命の名簿に名を録されざる人、皆彼獣を禮拝せり。 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 人耳あらば聞け、 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10 擒に牽きし人は自ら擒に往くべく、剣にて殺しし人は剣にて殺さるべし、聖人等の忍耐と信仰と茲にあり。 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
11 我又別に地より一の獣の上るを見しが、羔の如き角二ありて、龍の如くに言ひ居り、 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 先の獣の前に於て、総て之と等しき力を顕し、地と地に住める人とをして、死ぬばかりの傷の醫されし曩の獣を禮拝せしめたり、 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 又人の眼前に天より火を地に下さしむる程の大いなる徴を為し、 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 獣の前に為すことを得しめられたる徴を以て、地に住める人を惑はし、之に勧めて、刀の傷はありながら尚生存へし獣の像を造らしめ、 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 此獣の像に生命を與へ、且言ふことを得させ、此獣の像を拝せざる人を殺す力を與へられたり、 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 又大小と貧富と自由の身と奴隷とを問はず、凡ての人に、或は右の手或は額に印章を受けしめ、 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 此印章若くは獣の名、若くは其名の數を記されたる人々の外、売買する事を得ざらしめたり。 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 智恵は是に於てか要せらる、知識ある人は獣の數を算へよ、獣の數は人の數にして、其數は六百六十六なり。 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
