1 異邦人も神の御言を請容れし事、使徒等及びユデアに在る兄弟等に聞えしかば、 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
2 ペトロがエルザレムに上るや、割禮ある人々之を詰りて、 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,
3 言ひけるは、汝何ぞ無割禮の人の中に入りて共に食せしや、と。 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.
4 ペトロ事の次第を説出して云ひけるは、 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,
5 我ヨッペの町に在りて祈り居りしに、氣を奪はるる如くにして幻影に遇ひしが、大いなる布の如き器物の四隅を吊されつつ天より降りて我許に來るを見、 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
6 熟其中を眺むるに、地上の四足のもの、野獣、爬蟲、及び空の鳥あるを見たり。 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
7 又、ペトロ起きよ、屠りて食せよ、と我に謂へる聲をも聞きたれば、 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
8 我、主よ、然らじ、穢れたるもの潔からぬものは曾て我口に入りし事なし、と言ひしに、 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9 再び天より聲ありて、神の潔め給ひしものを汝潔からずと言ふこと勿れ、と答へ、 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
10 三度まで斯の如くなりしが、終に其物皆また天に引上げられたり。 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.
11 折しもカイザリアより、我許に遣はされたる者三人、我が居る家に立止りしかば、 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cesarea unto me.
12 躊躇する事なく彼等と共に往け、と[聖]霊我に曰へり。斯て此六人の兄弟も我に伴ひ來り、一行彼人の家に入りたるに、 And the spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:
13 彼、天使の己が家に立ちて、己に次の如く言ふを見し次第を語れり。即ち、人をヨッペに遣はして、ペトロと呼ばるるシモンを招け、 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;
14 彼は汝及び汝が一家の救かるべき御言を汝に語らん、と。 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
15 然るに我が語出るや、最初我等の上に降り給ひし如く、聖霊彼等の上に降り給ひたれば、 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16 我主が曾て、ヨハネは水にて洗したるに汝等は聖霊にて洗せられん、と曰ひし御言を思出せり。 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17 即ち神既にイエズス、キリストを信仰せる我等と同様なる恩寵を彼等にも賜ひしを、我抑誰なれば、神に禁ずる事を得べかりしぞ、と。 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18 人々是等の事を聞きて黙然たりしが、又神に光榮を歸し奉りて云ひけるは、然れば神は、生命を得させん為に、異邦人にも改心を賜ひしなり、と。 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19 抑ステファノの時起りし迫害の為に離散したりし人々は、フェニケア[州]、クプロ[島]、及びアンチオキア[市]まで廻行きしも、ユデア人の外誰にも御言を語らざりしが、 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
20 彼等の中にクプロ及びクレネの人々ありて、アンチオキアに入りしかば、ギリシア人にも語りて、主イエズスの事を告げ、 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
21 主の御手彼等と共に在りければ、數多の人信じて主に歸依せり。 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
22 是等の沙汰エルザレムなる教會の耳に入りしかば、バルナバを遣はしてアンチオキアまで至らしめしに、 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
23 彼至りて神の恩寵を見て喜び、決心して主に止らん事を一同に勧め居たり。 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
24 蓋彼は善人にして聖霊と信仰とに充てる人なりければ、夥しき群集主に属けり。 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
25 然てバルナバ、サウロを尋ねんとてタルソに至り、之に遇ひてアンチオキアに伴ひ行き、 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
26 兩人彼處の教會に満一年を過して、夥しき群集を教へたり。斯て弟子等はアンチオキアに於て、始て基督信徒と呼ばるるに至れり。 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
27 其時或預言者等、エルザレムよりアンチオキアに至りしが、 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.
28 彼等の中より一人のアガポと云へる者起ちて、大飢饉の全世界に起るべき事を、聖霊によりて告げ居たりけるに、果してクロウヂオ[皇帝]の時代に起りしかば、 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cesar.
29 弟子等各力に應じてユデアに住める兄弟に補助を贈らん事を定め、 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judea:
30 遂に之を遂げて、バルナバとサウロとの手に托して長老等に贈れり。 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
