1 若幾許のキリストに於る勧、幾許の愛に由る慰、幾許の聖霊の交、幾許の憫の腸あらば、 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 汝等我喜を満たせよ。即ち心を同じうし、愛を同じうし、同心同意にして、 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 何事も党派心、虚榮心の為にせず、謙遜して互に人を己に優れる者と思ひ、 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 各己が事のみを顧みずして他人の事を顧みよ。 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 汝等志す事はキリスト、イエズスの如くなれ、 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 即ち彼は神の貎に在して神と並ぶ事を盗とは思ひ給はざりしも、 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 己を無きものとして奴隷の貎を取り、人に似たる物と成り、外貌に於て人の如くに見え、 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 自ら謙りて、死、而も十字架上の死に至るまで、從へる者となり給ひしなり。 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 是故に神も亦之を最上に挙げて、賜ふに一切の名に優れる名を以てし給へり、 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 即ちイエズスの御名に對しては、天上のもの、地上のもの、地獄のもの、悉く膝を屈むべく、 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 又凡ての舌は父にて在す神の光榮の為に、イエズス、キリストの主に在せる事を公言すべし。 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 然れば我至愛なる者よ、汝等が常に從ひし如く、我面前に在る時のみならず、今不在の時に當りても、一層懼慄きつつ己が救霊を全うせよ、 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 其は志す事と為遂ぐる事とは、神が御好意を以て汝等の中に為さしめ給ふ所なればなり。 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 汝等呟く事なく争ふ事なく、一切の事を行へ、 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 是汝等が惡く且邪なる代に在りて、咎むべき所なく、神の純粋なる子兒として、科なき者とならん為なり。汝等は斯る人々の間に、世界に於る星の如く光りて、 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
16 生命の言を保てり、斯て我が走りし事の空しからず、勞せし事の空しからずして、キリストの日に於て我名誉と成るべし。 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
17 假令汝等の信仰の供物と祭との上に、我が[血は]濯がるるも、我は之を喜びて汝等一同と共に之を祝す、 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.
18 汝等も之を喜びて我と共に祝賀せよ。 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.
19 我も汝等の事を知りて心を安んぜん為、速にチモテオを汝等に遣はさん事を、主イエズスに於て希望す。 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.
20 其は斯くまで我と同心して、眞心を以て汝等の為に慮る人、復外に在らざればなり。 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.
21 蓋人は皆イエズス、キリストの事を求めず、己が事を求む、 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.
22 と雖も、彼が福音の為に、子の父に於る如く我と共に努めたるは、汝等が其證を知れる所なり。 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
23 然れば我身上の成行を見ば、直に彼を汝等に遣はさん事を期せり。 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.
24 我自らも亦程なく汝等に至るべき事を、主に於て信頼す。 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.
25 然れど我思ふに、汝等より遣はされて我が要する所を供せし我兄弟にして協力者たり戰友たるエパフロヂトを汝等に遣はさざるべからず。 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.
26 蓋彼は汝等一同を戀慕ひ、其病める由の汝等に聞えしとて憂ひ居たりしなり。 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.
27 實に彼は病に罹りて、死ぬばかりに成りたれど、神は彼を憫み給ひ、啻に彼のみならず、我悲の上に又悲の重らざる様、我をも憫み給へり。 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
28 此故に彼を見る事によりて、更に汝等を喜ばせ、我憂をも減ぜん為に、一層早く彼を遣はせるなり。 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
29 然れば汝等主に於て厚く彼を歓迎し、鄭重に斯る人物を待遇せよ、 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
30 其は彼、我を扶けて汝等の缺けたる所を補はんと、キリストの事業の為に生命を投じて死を犯したればなり。 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
