| 17 | 然れば歴代は、総てアブラハムよりダヴィドまで十四代、ダヴィドよりバビロンに移さるるまで十四代、バビロンに移されてよりキリストまで十四代[とす]。 | So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. |
| 18 | 然てキリストの生れ給ひし次第は次の如し。其母マリアヨゼフに聘定せられしに、同居せざる前聖霊によりて懐胎せる事顕れしが、 | Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. |
| 19 | 夫ヨゼフ義人にして彼を訟ふる事を好まざれば、密に之を離別せんと思へり。 | Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. |
| 20 | 是等の事を思ひ回らす折しも、主の使彼が夢に現れて云ひけるは、ダヴィドの裔ヨゼフよ、汝の妻マリアを納るる事を懼るる勿れ、蓋彼に胎れるものは聖霊によれり。 | But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. |
| 21 | 彼一子を生まん、汝其名をイエズスと名くべし、其は自己が民を其罪より救ふべければなり、と。 | And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. |
| 22 | 総て此事の成りしは、主が曾て預言者を以て曰ひし事の成就せん為なり、 | Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, |
| 23 | 曰く「看よ童貞女懐胎して一子を生まん、其名はエンマヌエルと稱へられん」と。エンマヌエルとは我等と偕に在す神の義なり。 | Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. |
| 24 | ヨゼフ睡より起きて、主の使より命ぜられし如くにして其妻を納れしが、 | Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: |
| 25 | 牀を偕にせずして家子を生むに至れり、而して其子の名をイエズスと名けたり。 | And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. |
