1 イエズス、キリストの僕にして使徒と召され、神の福音の為に別たれたるパウロ、―― Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
2 此福音は、曩に神が、其預言者等を以て聖書の中に、御子我主イエズス、キリストに就きて約し給ひしものにして、 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
3 此御子は肉體にてはダヴィドの裔より生り、 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
4 聖徳の霊にては、大能を以て、死者の中よりの復活によりて、神の御子と證せられ給へり。 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
5 我等は其御名の為に、萬民を信仰に服從せしめんとて、恩寵と使徒職とを蒙りたるなり、 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 汝等も萬民の中よりイエズス、キリストに召されたる者なれば、―― Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
7 書簡を総てロマに在りて神に愛せられ聖徒と召されたる人々に贈る。願くは、我父にて在す神及主イエズス、キリストより、恩寵と平安とを汝等に賜はらん事を。 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 汝等の信仰全世界に吹聴せらるるが故に、我先汝等一同の為にイエズス、キリストに由りて我神に感謝し奉る。 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9 蓋我が祈祷の中に絶えず汝等を記念し、 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
10 常に如何にしてか神の思召により、何時しか安らかなる道を得て、終に汝等に至らんと希へるは、御子の福音に於て我が一心に事へ奉る神の、我為に證し給ふ所なり。 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
11 蓋我が汝等を見ん事を望むは、聊か霊の恩寵を汝等に分與へて、汝等を堅固ならしめん為、 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
12 即ち汝等の中に在りて、汝等と我との互の信仰を以て相勧むる事を得ん為なり。 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
13 兄弟等よ、我は我が他の異邦人に於る如く、汝等の中にも聊か好果を得ん為、數次汝等に至らんと志して、而も今まで阻げられたる事を、汝等の知らざるを好まず。 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
14 我はギリシア人にも異國人にも、學者にも無學者にも負ふ所あり、 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
15 然れば又汝等ロマに居る者にも福音を傳へんと欲する事切なり。 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
16 蓋我福音を恥と為ず、是総て信ずる者の為には、ユデア人を初めギリシア人にも救となるべき神の能力なればなり。 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 即ち神の[賜へる]義が信仰より信仰に至る事は福音の中に顕る、録して、「義人は信仰によりて活きん」とあるが如し。 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 夫の御怒は、眞理を不義に壓ふる人々の、凡ての不敬不義の上に顕る。 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 蓋神に就きて知られたる事柄は彼等には顕然なり、其は神既に彼等に之を顕し給ひたればなり。 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 即ち其見得べからざる所、其永遠の能力も神性も、世界創造以來造られたる物によりて覚られ、明かに見ゆるが故に、人々弁解する事を得ず。 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 蓋既に神を知りたれど、神として之に光榮を歸せず、又感謝せず、却て理屈の中に空しくせられて、其愚なる心暗くなれり。 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 即ち自ら智者と稱して愚者と成り、 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 朽ちざる神の光榮に易ふるに、朽つべき人間、鳥、獣、蛇等に似たる像を以てせり。 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 是によりて神は彼等を其心の慾、即ち淫亂に打任せ給ひて、彼等は互に其身を辱しむ、 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 神の眞實を虚僞に易へ、造物主を措きて被造物を拝み、之に事ふるに至りたればなり。造物主こそは世々に祝せられ給ふなれ、アメン。 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 是によりて神は彼等を恥づべき情慾に打任せ給へり、蓋彼等の女は自然の用を易へて自然に戻れる用と為し、 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 男も亦同じく女の自然の用を棄てて互に私慾を燃やし、男と男と恥づべき事を為して其迷に値せる報を己が身に受けたり。 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 又神を認めたる事を證せざりしが故に、神亦彼等を其邪心に打任せ給ひて、彼等は不當なる事を為すに至れり。 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 即ち有ゆる不義、惡心、私通、貪吝、不正に満ち、嫉妬、殺人、争闘、詐欺、狡猾に富み、讒害する者、 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 誹謗する者、神を恨む者、侮辱する者、傲慢なる者、自負する者、惡事の發明者、父母に從はざる者、 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 愚者、背徳者にして、愛情なく、忠實なく、慈悲なき人々たるなり。 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 斯る事を行ふ人は死に値す、と云へる神の判定を知りたれども、之を行ふのみならず亦行ふ人々に賛同するなり。 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
