| 1 | 知恵は自分の家を建て、その七つの柱を立て、 | Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: |
| 2 | 獣をほふり、酒を混ぜ合わせて、ふるまいを備え、 | She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. |
| 3 | はしためをつかわして、町の高い所で呼ばわり言わせた、 | She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, |
| 4 | 「思慮のない者よ、ここに来れ」と。また、知恵のない者に言う、 | Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, |
| 5 | 「来て、わたしのパンを食べ、わたしの混ぜ合わせた酒をのみ、 | Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. |
| 6 | 思慮のないわざを捨てて命を得、悟りの道を歩め」と。 | Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. |
| 7 | あざける者を戒める者は、自ら恥を得、悪しき者を責める者は自ら傷を受ける。 | He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. |
| 8 | あざける者を責めるな、おそらく彼はあなたを憎むであろう。知恵ある者を責めよ、彼はあなたを愛する。 | Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. |
| 9 | 知恵ある者に教訓を授けよ、彼はますます知恵を得る。正しい者を教えよ、彼は学に進む。 | Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. |
| 10 | 主を恐れることは知恵のもとである、聖なる者を知ることは、悟りである。 | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. |
| 11 | わたしによって、あなたの日は多くなり、あなたの命の年は増す。 | For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. |
| 12 | もしあなたに知恵があるならば、あなた自身のために知恵があるのである。もしあなたがあざけるならば、あなたひとりがその責めを負うことになる。 | If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it. |
| 13 | 愚かな女は、騒がしく、みだらで、恥を知らない。 | A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing. |
| 14 | 彼女はその家の戸口に座し、町の高い所にある座にすわり、 | For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, |
| 15 | 道を急ぐ行き来の人を招いて言う、 | To call passengers who go right on their ways: |
| 16 | 「思慮のない者よ、ここに来れ」と。また知恵のない人に向かってこれに言う、 | Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, |
| 17 | 「盗んだ水は甘く、ひそかに食べるパンはうまい」と。 | Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. |
| 18 | しかしその人は、死の影がそこにあることを知らず、彼女の客は陰府の深みにおることを知らない。 | But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell. |
