| 1 | 子供らよ、父の教を聞き、悟りを得るために耳を傾けよ。 | Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. |
| 2 | わたしは、良い教訓を、あなたがたにさずける。わたしの教を捨ててはならない。 | For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. |
| 3 | わたしもわが父には子であり、わが母の目には、ひとりのいとし子であった。 | For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. |
| 4 | 父はわたしを教えて言った、「わたしの言葉を、心に留め、わたしの戒めを守って、命を得よ。 | He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. |
| 5 | それを忘れることなく、またわが口の言葉にそむいてはならない、知恵を得よ、悟りを得よ。 | Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. |
| 6 | 知恵を捨てるな、それはあなたを守る。それを愛せよ、それはあなたを保つ。 | Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. |
| 7 | 知恵の初めはこれである、知恵を得よ、あなたが何を得るにしても、悟りを得よ。 | Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. |
| 8 | それを尊べ、そうすれば、それはあなたを高くあげる、もしそれをいだくならば、それはあなたを尊くする。 | Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. |
| 9 | それはあなたの頭に麗しい飾りを置き、栄えの冠をあなたに与える」。 | She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. |
| 10 | わが子よ、聞け、わたしの言葉をうけいれよ、そうすれば、あなたの命の年は多くなる。 | Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. |
| 11 | わたしは知恵の道をあなたに教え、正しい道筋にあなたを導いた。 | I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. |
| 12 | あなたが歩くとき、その歩みは妨げられず、走る時にも、つまずくことはない。 | When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. |
| 13 | 教訓をかたくとらえて、離してはならない、それを守れ、それはあなたの命である。 | Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. |
| 14 | よこしまな者の道に、はいってはならない、悪しき者の道を歩んではならない。 | Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. |
| 15 | それを避けよ、通ってはならない、それを離れて進め。 | Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. |
| 16 | 彼らは悪を行わなければ眠ることができず、人をつまずかせなければ、寝ることができず、 | For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. |
| 17 | 不正のパンを食らい、暴虐の酒を飲むからである。 | For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. |
| 18 | 正しい者の道は、夜明けの光のようだ、いよいよ輝きを増して真昼となる。 | But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. |
| 19 | 悪しき人の道は暗やみのようだ、彼らは何につまずくかを知らない。 | The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble. |
| 20 | わが子よ、わたしの言葉に心をとめ、わたしの語ることに耳を傾けよ。 | My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. |
| 21 | それを、あなたの目から離さず、あなたの心のうちに守れ。 | Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. |
| 22 | それは、これを得る者の命であり、またその全身を健やかにするからである。 | For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. |
| 23 | 油断することなく、あなたの心を守れ、命の泉は、これから流れ出るからである。 | Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. |
| 24 | 曲った言葉をあなたから捨てさり、よこしまな談話をあなたから遠ざけよ。 | Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. |
| 25 | あなたの目は、まっすぐに正面を見、あなたのまぶたはあなたの前を、まっすぐに見よ。 | Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. |
| 26 | あなたの足の道に気をつけよ、そうすれば、あなたのすべての道は安全である。 | Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. |
| 27 | 右にも左にも迷い出てはならない、あなたの足を悪から離れさせよ。 | Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. |
