| 1 | 戒めを愛する人は知識を愛する、懲しめを憎む者は愚かである。 | Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. |
| 2 | 善人は主の恵みをうけ、悪い計りごとを設ける人は主に罰せられる。 | A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn. |
| 3 | 人は悪をもって堅く立つことはできない、正しい人の根は動くことはない。 | A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. |
| 4 | 賢い妻はその夫の冠である、恥をこうむらせる妻は夫の骨に生じた腐れのようなものである。 | A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. |
| 5 | 正しい人の考えは公正である、悪しき者の計ることは偽りである。 | The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit. |
| 6 | 悪しき者の言葉は、人の血を流そうとうかがう、正しい人の口は人を救う。 | The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. |
| 7 | 悪しき者は倒されて、うせ去る、正しい人の家は堅く立つ。 | The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand. |
| 8 | 人はその悟りにしたがって、ほめられ、心のねじけた者は、卑しめられる。 | A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised. |
| 9 | 身分の低い人でも自分で働く者は、みずから高ぶって食に乏しい者にまさる。 | He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread. |
| 10 | 正しい人はその家畜の命を顧みる、悪しき者は残忍をもって、あわれみとする。 | A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. |
| 11 | 自分の田地を耕す者は食糧に飽きる、無益な事に従う者は知恵がない。 | He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding. |
| 12 | 悪しき者の堅固なやぐらは崩壊する、正しい人の根は堅く立つ。 | The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit. |
| 13 | 悪人はくちびるのとがによって、わなに陥る、しかし正しい人は悩みをのがれる。 | The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. |
| 14 | 人はその口の実によって、幸福に満ち足り、人の手のわざは、その人の身に帰る。 | A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him. |
| 15 | 愚かな人の道は、自分の目に正しく見える、しかし知恵ある者は勧めをいれる。 | The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. |
| 16 | 愚かな人は、すぐに怒りをあらわす、しかし賢い人は、はずかしめをも気にとめない。 | A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame. |
| 17 | 真実を語る人は正しい証言をなし、偽りの証人は偽りを言う。 | He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. |
| 18 | つるぎをもって刺すように、みだりに言葉を出す者がある、しかし知恵ある人の舌は人をいやす。 | There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. |
| 19 | 真実を言うくちびるは、いつまでも保つ、偽りを言う舌は、ただ、まばたきの間だけである。 | The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. |
| 20 | 悪をたくらむ者の心には欺きがあり、善をはかる人には喜びがある。 | Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. |
| 21 | 正しい人にはなんの害悪も生じない、しかし悪しき者は災をもって満たされる。 | There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. |
| 22 | 偽りを言うくちびるは主に憎まれ、真実を行う者は彼に喜ばれる。 | Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight. |
| 23 | さとき人は知識をかくす、しかし愚かな者は自分の愚かなことをあらわす。 | A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. |
| 24 | 勤め働く者の手はついに人を治める、怠る者は人に仕えるようになる。 | The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. |
| 25 | 心に憂いがあればその人をかがませる、しかし親切な言葉はその人を喜ばせる。 | Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. |
| 26 | 正しい人は悪を離れ去る、しかし悪しき者は自ら道に迷う。 | The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them. |
| 27 | 怠る者は自分の獲物を捕えない、しかし勤め働く人は尊い宝を獲る。 | The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious. |
| 28 | 正義の道には命がある、しかし誤りの道は死に至る。 | In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death. |
