1 正しい者が滅びても、心にとめる人がなく、神を敬う人々が取り去られても、悟る者はない。正しい者は災の前に取り去られて、 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
2 平安に入るからである。すべて正直に歩む者は、その床に休むことができる。 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.
3 しかし、あなたがた女魔法使の子よ、姦夫と遊女のすえよ、こちらへ近寄れ。 But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore.
4 あなたがたは、だれにむかって戯れをなすのか。だれにむかって口を開き、舌を出すのか。あなたがたは背信の子ら、偽りのすえではないか。 Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,
5 あなたがたは、かしの木の間、すべての青木の下で心をこがし、谷の中、岩のはざまで子どもを殺した。 Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?
6 あなたは谷のなめらかな石を自分の嗣業とし、これを自分の分け前とし、これに灌祭をそそぎ、供え物をささげた。わたしはこれらの物によってなだめられようか。 Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
7 あなたは高くそびえた山の上に自分の床を設け、またそこに登って行って犠牲をささげた。 Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
8 また戸および柱のうしろに、あなたのしるしを置いた。あなたはわたしを離れて自分の床をあらわし、それにのぼって、その床をひろくした。また彼らと契約をなし、彼らの床を愛し、その裸を見た。 Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it.
9 あなたは、におい油を携えてモレクに行き、多くのかおり物をささげた。またあなたの使者を遠くにつかわし、陰府の深い所にまでつかわした。 And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell.
10 あなたは道の長いのに疲れても、なお「望みがない」とは言わなかった。あなたはおのが力の回復を得たので、衰えることがなかった。 Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved.
11 あなたはだれをおじ恐れて、偽りを言い、わたしを覚えず、また心におかなかったのか。わたしが久しく黙っていたために、あなたはわたしを恐れなかったのではなかったか。 And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not?
12 わたしはあなたの義と、あなたのわざを告げ示そう、しかしこれらはあなたを益しない。 I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.
13 あなたが呼ばわる時、あなたが集めておいた偶像にあなたを救わせよ。風は彼らを運び去り、息は彼らを取り去る。しかしわたしに寄り頼む者は地を継ぎ、わが聖なる山をまもる。 When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;
14 主は言われる、「土を盛り、土を盛って道を備えよ、わが民の道から、つまずく物を取り去れ」と。 And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
15 いと高く、いと上なる者、とこしえに住む者、その名を聖ととなえられる者がこう言われる、「わたしは高く、聖なる所に住み、また心砕けて、へりくだる者と共に住み、へりくだる者の霊をいかし、砕ける者の心をいかす。 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
16 わたしはかぎりなく争わない、また絶えず怒らない。霊はわたしから出、いのちの息はわたしがつくったからだ。 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.
17 彼のむさぼりの罪のゆえに、わたしは怒って彼を打ち、わが顔をかくして怒った。しかし彼はなおそむいて、おのが心の道へ行った。 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.
18 わたしは彼の道を見た。わたしは彼をいやし、また彼を導き、慰めをもって彼に報い、悲しめる者のために、くちびるの実を造ろう。 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.
19 遠い者にも近い者にも平安あれ、平安あれ、わたしは彼をいやそう」と主は言われる。 I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him.
20 しかし悪しき者は波の荒い海のようだ。静まることができないで、その水はついに泥と汚物とを出す。 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
21 わが神は言われる、「よこしまな者には平安がない」と。 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
