| 2 | 「非難する者が全能者と争おうとするのか、神と論ずる者はこれに答えよ」。 | Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it. |
| 3 | そこで、ヨブは主に答えて言った、 | Then Job answered the Lord, and said, |
| 4 | 「見よ、わたしはまことに卑しい者です、なんとあなたに答えましょうか。ただ手を口に当てるのみです。 | Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. |
| 5 | わたしはすでに一度言いました、また言いません、すでに二度言いました、重ねて申しません」。 | Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. |
| 6 | 主はまたつむじ風の中からヨブに答えられた、 | Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, |
| 7 | 「あなたは腰に帯して、男らしくせよ。わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ。 | Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. |
| 8 | あなたはなお、わたしに責任を負わそうとするのか。あなたはわたしを非とし、自分を是としようとするのか。 | Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? |
| 9 | あなたは神のような腕を持っているのか、神のような声でとどろきわたることができるか。 | Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? |
| 10 | あなたは威光と尊厳とをもってその身を飾り、栄光と華麗とをもってその身を装ってみよ。 | Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. |
| 11 | あなたのあふるる怒りを漏らし、すべての高ぶる者を見て、これを低くせよ。 | Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. |
| 12 | すべての高ぶる者を見て、これをかがませ、また悪人をその所で踏みつけ、 | Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. |
| 13 | 彼らをともにちりの中にうずめ、その顔を隠れた所に閉じこめよ。 | Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. |
| 14 | そうすれば、わたしもまた、あなたをほめて、あなたの右の手はあなたを救うことができるとしよう。 | Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. |
| 15 | 河馬を見よ、これはあなたと同様にわたしが造ったもので、牛のように草を食う。 | Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. |
| 16 | 見よ、その力は腰にあり、その勢いは腹の筋にある。 | Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. |
| 17 | これはその尾を香柏のように動かし、そのももの筋は互にからみ合う。 | He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. |
| 18 | その骨は青銅の管のようで、その肋骨は鉄の棒のようだ。 | His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. |
| 19 | これは神のわざの第一のものであって、これを造った者がこれにつるぎを授けた。 | He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. |
| 20 | 山もこれがために食物をいだし、もろもろの野の獣もそこに遊ぶ。 | Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. |
| 21 | これは酸棗の木の下に伏し、葦の茂み、または沼に隠れている。 | He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. |
| 22 | 酸棗の木はその陰でこれをおおい、川の柳はこれをめぐり囲む。 | The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. |
| 23 | 見よ、たとい川が荒れても、これは驚かない。ヨルダンがその口に注ぎかかっても、これはあわてない。 | Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. |
| 24 | だれが、かぎでこれを捕えることができるか。だれが、わなでその鼻を貫くことができるか。 | He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. |
