| 1 | そこでヨブは答えて言った、 | Then Job answered and said, |
| 2 | 「きょうもまた、わたしのつぶやきは激しく、彼の手はわたしの嘆きにかかわらず、重い。 | Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. |
| 3 | どうか、彼を尋ねてどこで会えるかを知り、そのみ座に至ることができるように。 | Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! |
| 4 | わたしは彼の前にわたしの訴えをならべ、口をきわめて論議するであろう。 | I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. |
| 5 | わたしは、わたしに答えられるみ言葉を知り、わたしに言われる所を悟ろう。 | I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. |
| 6 | 彼は大いなる力をもって、わたしと争われるであろうか、いな、かえってわたしを顧みられるであろう。 | Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. |
| 7 | かしこでは正しい人は彼と言い争うことができる。そうすれば、わたしはわたしをさばく者から永久に救われるであろう。 | There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge. |
| 8 | 見よ、わたしが進んでも、彼を見ない。退いても、彼を認めることができない。 | Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: |
| 9 | 左の方に尋ねても、会うことができない。右の方に向かっても、見ることができない。 | On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: |
| 10 | しかし彼はわたしの歩む道を知っておられる。彼がわたしを試みられるとき、わたしは金のように出て来るであろう。 | But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. |
| 11 | わたしの足は彼の歩みに堅く従った。わたしは彼の道を守って離れなかった。 | My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. |
| 12 | わたしは彼のくちびるの命令にそむかず、その口の言葉をわたしの胸にたくわえた。 | Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. |
| 13 | しかし彼は変ることはない。だれが彼をひるがえすことができようか。彼はその心の欲するところを行われるのだ。 | But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. |
| 14 | 彼はわたしのために定めた事をなし遂げられる。そしてこのような事が多く彼の心にある。 | For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him. |
| 15 | それゆえ、わたしは彼の前におののく。わたしは考えるとき、彼を恐れる。 | Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him. |
| 16 | 神はわたしの心を弱くされた。全能者はわたしを恐れさせられた。 | For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me: |
| 17 | わたしは、やみによって閉じこめられ、暗黒がわたしの顔をおおっている。 | Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face. |
