| 1 | わたしはまた、一匹の獣が海から上って来るのを見た。それには角が十本、頭が七つあり、それらの角には十の冠があって、頭には神を汚す名がついていた。 | And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. |
| 2 | わたしの見たこの獣はひょうに似ており、その足はくまの足のようで、その口はししの口のようであった。龍は自分の力と位と大いなる権威とを、この獣に与えた。 | And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. |
| 3 | その頭の一つが、死ぬほどの傷を受けたが、その致命的な傷もなおってしまった。そこで、全地の人々は驚きおそれて、その獣に従い、 | And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. |
| 4 | また、龍がその権威を獣に与えたので、人々は龍を拝み、さらに、その獣を拝んで言った、「だれが、この獣に匹敵し得ようか。だれが、これと戦うことができようか」。 | And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? |
| 5 | この獣には、また、大言を吐き汚しごとを語る口が与えられ、四十二か月のあいだ活動する権威が与えられた。 | And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. |
| 6 | そこで、彼は口を開いて神を汚し、神の御名と、その幕屋、すなわち、天に住む者たちとを汚した。 | And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. |
| 7 | そして彼は、聖徒に戦いをいどんでこれに勝つことを許され、さらに、すべての部族、民族、国語、国民を支配する権威を与えられた。 | And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. |
| 8 | 地に住む者で、ほふられた小羊のいのちの書に、その名を世の初めからしるされていない者はみな、この獣を拝むであろう。 | And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. |
| 9 | 耳のある者は、聞くがよい。 | If any man have an ear, let him hear. |
| 10 | とりこになるべき者は、とりこになっていく。つるぎで殺す者は、自らもつるぎで殺されねばならない。ここに、聖徒たちの忍耐と信仰とがある。 | He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. |
| 11 | わたしはまた、ほかの獣が地から上って来るのを見た。それには小羊のような角が二つあって、龍のように物を言った。 | And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. |
| 12 | そして、先の獣の持つすべての権力をその前で働かせた。また、地と地に住む人々に、致命的な傷がいやされた先の獣を拝ませた。 | And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. |
| 13 | また、大いなるしるしを行って、人々の前で火を天から地に降らせることさえした。 | And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, |
| 14 | さらに、先の獣の前で行うのを許されたしるしで、地に住む人々を惑わし、かつ、つるぎの傷を受けてもなお生きている先の獣の像を造ることを、地に住む人々に命じた。 | And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. |
| 15 | それから、その獣の像に息を吹き込んで、その獣の像が物を言うことさえできるようにし、また、その獣の像を拝まない者をみな殺させた。 | And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. |
| 16 | また、小さき者にも、大いなる者にも、富める者にも、貧しき者にも、自由人にも、奴隷にも、すべての人々に、その右の手あるいは額に刻印を押させ、 | And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: |
| 17 | この刻印のない者はみな、物を買うことも売ることもできないようにした。この刻印は、その獣の名、または、その名の数字のことである。 | And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. |
| 18 | ここに、知恵が必要である。思慮のある者は、獣の数字を解くがよい。その数字とは、人間をさすものである。そして、その数字は六百六十六である。 | Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. |
