1 「主に感謝せよ、主は恵みふかく、そのいつくしみはとこしえに絶えることがない」と、 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 主にあがなわれた者は言え。主は彼らを悩みからあがない、 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 もろもろの国から、東、西、北、南から彼らを集められた。 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 彼らは人なき荒野にさまよい、住むべき町にいたる道を見いださなかった。 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 彼らは飢え、またかわき、その魂は彼らのうちに衰えた。 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 彼らはその悩みのうちに主に呼ばわったので、主は彼らをその悩みから助け出し、 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 住むべき町に行き着くまで、まっすぐな道に導かれた。 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 どうか、彼らが主のいつくしみと、人の子らになされたくすしきみわざとのために、主に感謝するように。 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 主はかわいた魂を満ち足らせ、飢えた魂を良き物で満たされるからである。 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10 暗黒と深いやみの中にいる者、苦しみと、くろがねに縛られた者、 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11 彼らは神の言葉にそむき、いと高き者の勧めを軽んじたので、 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12 主は重い労働をもって彼らの心を低くされた。彼らはつまずき倒れても、助ける者がなかった。 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
13 彼らはその悩みのうちに主に呼ばわったので、主は彼らをその悩みから救い、 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
14 暗黒と深いやみから彼らを導き出して、そのかせをこわされた。 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
15 どうか、彼らが主のいつくしみと、人の子らになされたくすしきみわざとのために、主に感謝するように。 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 主は青銅のとびらをこわし、鉄の貫の木を断ち切られたからである。 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
17 ある者はその罪に汚れた行いによって病み、その不義のゆえに悩んだ。 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
18 彼らはすべての食物をきらって、死の門に近づいた。 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
19 彼らはその悩みのうちに主に呼ばわったので、主は彼らをその悩みから救い、 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
20 そのみ言葉をつかわして、彼らをいやし、彼らを滅びから助け出された。 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
21 どうか、彼らが主のいつくしみと、人の子らになされたくすしきみわざとのために、主に感謝するように。 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 彼らが感謝のいけにえをささげ、喜びの歌をもって、そのみわざを言いあらわすように。 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
23 舟で海にくだり、大海で商売をする者は、 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 主のみわざを見、また深い所でそのくすしきみわざを見た。 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 主が命じられると暴風が起って、海の波をあげた。 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 彼らは天にのぼり、淵にくだり、悩みによってその勇気は溶け去り、 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 酔った人のようによろめき、よろめいて途方にくれる。 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
28 彼らはその悩みのうちに主に呼ばわったので、主は彼らをその悩みから救い出された。 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 主があらしを静められると、海の波は穏やかになった。 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 こうして彼らは波の静まったのを喜び、主は彼らをその望む港へ導かれた。 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 どうか、彼らが主のいつくしみと、人の子らになされたくすしきみわざとのために、主に感謝するように。 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 彼らが民の集会で主をあがめ、長老の会合で主をほめたたえるように。 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33 主は川を野に変らせ、泉をかわいた地に変らせ、 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
34 肥えた地をそれに住む者の悪のゆえに塩地に変らせられる。 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 主は野を池に変らせ、かわいた地を泉に変らせ、 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
36 飢えた者をそこに住まわせられる。こうして彼らはその住むべき町を建て、 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
37 畑に種をまき、ぶどう畑を設けて多くの収穫を得た。 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
38 主が彼らを祝福されたので彼らは大いにふえ、その家畜の減るのをゆるされなかった。 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
39 彼らがしえたげと、悩みと、悲しみとによって減り、かつ卑しめられたとき、 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40 主はもろもろの君に侮りをそそぎ、道なき荒れ地にさまよわせられた。 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41 しかし主は貧しい者を悩みのうちからあげて、その家族を羊の群れのようにされた。 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
42 正しい者はこれを見て喜び、もろもろの不義はその口を閉じた。 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43 すべて賢い者はこれらの事に心をよせ、主のいつくしみをさとるようにせよ。 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
