| 17 | だから、アブラハムからダビデまでの代は合わせて十四代、ダビデからバビロンへ移されるまでは十四代、そして、バビロンへ移されてからキリストまでは十四代である。 | So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations. |
| 18 | イエス・キリストの誕生の次第はこうであった。母マリヤはヨセフと婚約していたが、まだ一緒にならない前に、聖霊によって身重になった。 | Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. |
| 19 | 夫ヨセフは正しい人であったので、彼女のことが公けになることを好まず、ひそかに離縁しようと決心した。 | Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. |
| 20 | 彼がこのことを思いめぐらしていたとき、主の使が夢に現れて言った、「ダビデの子ヨセフよ、心配しないでマリヤを妻として迎えるがよい。その胎内に宿っているものは聖霊によるのである。 | But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. |
| 21 | 彼女は男の子を産むであろう。その名をイエスと名づけなさい。彼は、おのれの民をそのもろもろの罪から救う者となるからである」。 | And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. |
| 22 | すべてこれらのことが起ったのは、主が預言者によって言われたことの成就するためである。すなわち、 | Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, |
| 23 | 「見よ、おとめがみごもって男の子を産むであろう。その名はインマヌエルと呼ばれるであろう」。これは、「神われらと共にいます」という意味である。 | Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. |
| 24 | ヨセフは眠りからさめた後に、主の使が命じたとおりに、マリヤを妻に迎えた。 | Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: |
| 25 | しかし、子が生れるまでは、彼女を知ることはなかった。そして、その子をイエスと名づけた。 | And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. |
