| 1 | そこで、まず第一に勧める。すべての人のために、王たちと上に立っているすべての人々のために、願いと、祈と、とりなしと、感謝とをささげなさい。 | I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; |
| 2 | それはわたしたちが、安らかで静かな一生を、真に信心深くまた謹厳に過ごすためである。 | For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. |
| 3 | これは、わたしたちの救主である神のみまえに良いことであり、また、みこころにかなうことである。 | For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; |
| 4 | 神は、すべての人が救われて、真理を悟るに至ることを望んでおられる。 | Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. |
| 5 | 神は唯一であり、神と人との間の仲保者もただひとりであって、それは人なるキリスト・イエスである。 | For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; |
| 6 | 彼は、すべての人のあがないとしてご自身をささげられたが、それは、定められた時になされたあかしにほかならない。 | Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. |
| 7 | そのために、わたしは立てられて宣教者、使徒となり（わたしは真実を言っている、偽ってはいない）、また異邦人に信仰と真理とを教える教師となったのである。 | Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. |
| 8 | 男は、怒ったり争ったりしないで、どんな場所でも、きよい手をあげて祈ってほしい。 | I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. |
| 9 | また、女はつつましい身なりをし、適度に慎み深く身を飾るべきであって、髪を編んだり、金や真珠をつけたり、高価な着物を着たりしてはいけない。 | In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; |
| 10 | むしろ、良いわざをもって飾りとすることが、信仰を言いあらわしている女に似つかわしい。 | But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. |
| 11 | 女は静かにしていて、万事につけ従順に教を学ぶがよい。 | Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. |
| 12 | 女が教えたり、男の上に立ったりすることを、わたしは許さない。むしろ、静かにしているべきである。 | But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. |
| 13 | なぜなら、アダムがさきに造られ、それからエバが造られたからである。 | For Adam was first formed, then Eve. |
| 14 | またアダムは惑わされなかったが、女は惑わされて、あやまちを犯した。 | And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. |
| 15 | しかし、女が慎み深く、信仰と愛と清さとを持ち続けるなら、子を産むことによって救われるであろう。 | Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. |
